תהילים 51-60

לַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach mizmor leDavid.

For the leader. A psalm of David,

בְּבוֹא־אֵלָיו נָתָן הַנָּבִיא כַּאֲשֶׁר־בָּא אֶל־בַּת־שָׁבַע׃

Bevo elav Natan hanavi, ka'asher ba el Bat Sheva.

when Nathan the prophet came to him after he had come to Bathsheba.

חָנֵּנִי אֱלֹהִים כְּחַסְדֶּךָ כְּרֹב רַחֲמֶיךָ מְחֵה פְשָׁעָי׃

Choneni Elohim kechasdecha, kerov rachamecha meche fesha'ai.

Have mercy upon me, O God, as befits Your faithfulness; in keeping with Your abundant compassion, blot out my transgressions.

הֶרֶב כַּבְּסֵנִי מֵעֲוֺנִי וּמֵחַטָּאתִי טַהֲרֵנִי׃

Herev kabseni me'avoni, umechata'ti tahareni.

Wash me thoroughly of my iniquity, and purify me of my sin;

כִּי־פְשָׁעַי אֲנִי אֵדָע וְחַטָּאתִי נֶגְדִּי תָמִיד׃

Ki fesha'ai ani eda, vechata'ti negdi tamid.

for I recognize my transgressions, and am ever conscious of my sin.

לְךָ לְבַדְּךָ חָטָאתִי וְהָרַע בְּעֵינֶיךָ עָשִׂיתִי לְמַעַן תִּצְדַּק בְּדָבְרֶךָ תִּזְכֶּה בְשָׁפְטֶךָ׃

Lecha levadcha chatati, vehara be'einecha asiti, lema'an titzdak bedavrecha, tizke veshoftecha.

Against You alone have I sinned, and done what is evil in Your sight; so You are just in Your sentence, and right in Your judgment.

הֵן־בְּעָווֹן חוֹלָלְתִּי וּבְחֵטְא יֶחֱמַתְנִי אִמִּי׃

Hen be'avon cholalti, uvechet yechematni imi.

Indeed I was born with iniquity; with sin my mother conceived me.

הֵן־אֱמֶת חָפַצְתָּ בַטֻּחוֹת וּבְסָתֻם חָכְמָה תוֹדִיעֵנִי׃

Hen emet chafatzta vatuchot, uvsatum chochma todi'eni.

Indeed You desire truth about that which is hidden; teach me wisdom about secret things.

תְּחַטְּאֵנִי בְאֵזוֹב וְאֶטְהָר תְּכַבְּסֵנִי וּמִשֶּׁלֶג אַלְבִּין׃

Techat'eni ve'ezov ve'ethar, techabbseni umisheleg albin.

Purge me with hyssop till I am pure; wash me till I am whiter than snow.

תַּשְׁמִיעֵנִי שָׂשׂוֹן וְשִׂמְחָה תָּגֵלְנָה עֲצָמוֹת דִּכִּיתָ׃

Tashmi'eni sason vesimcha, tagelna atzamot dikita.

Let me hear tidings of joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed exult.

הַסְתֵּר פָּנֶיךָ מֵחֲטָאָי וְכָל־עֲוֺנֹתַי מְחֵה׃

Haster panecha mechata'ai, vechol avonotai meche.

Hide Your face from my sins; blot out all my iniquities.

לֵב טָהוֹר בְּרָא־לִי אֱלֹהִים וְרוּחַ נָכוֹן חַדֵּשׁ בְּקִרְבִּי׃

Lev tahor bera li Elohim, veru'ach nachon chadesh bekirbi.

Fashion a pure heart for me, O God; create in me a steadfast spirit.

אַל־תַּשְׁלִיכֵנִי מִלְּפָנֶיךָ וְרוּחַ קָדְשְׁךָ אַל־תִּקַּח מִמֶּנִּי׃

Al tashlicheni milefanecha, veru'ach kodshecha al tikach mimeni.

Do not cast me out of Your presence, or take Your holy spirit away from me.

הָשִׁיבָה לִּי שְׂשׂוֹן יִשְׁעֶךָ וְרוּחַ נְדִיבָה תִסְמְכֵנִי׃

Hashiva li seson yish'echa, veru'ach nediva tismecheni.

Let me again rejoice in Your help; let a vigorous spirit sustain me.

אֲלַמְּדָה פֹשְׁעִים דְּרָכֶיךָ וְחַטָּאִים אֵלֶיךָ יָשׁוּבוּ׃

Alamda fosh'im derachecha, vechata'im elecha yashuvu.

I will teach transgressors Your ways, that sinners may return to You.

הַצִּילֵנִי מִדָּמִים אֱלֹהִים אֱלֹהֵי תְּשׁוּעָתִי תְּרַנֵּן לְשׁוֹנִי צִדְקָתֶךָ׃

Hatzileni midamim Elohim Elohei teshu'ati, teranen leshoni tzidkatecha.

Save me from bloodguilt, O God, God, my deliverer, that my tongue may sing forth Your beneficence.

אֲדֹנָי שְׂפָתַי תִּפְתָּח וּפִי יַגִּיד תְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃

Adonai sefatai tiftach, ufi yagid tehilatecha.

O Lord, open my lips, and let my mouth declare Your praise.

כִּי לֹא־תַחְפֹּץ זֶבַח וְאֶתֵּנָה עוֹלָה לֹא תִרְצֶה׃

Ki lo tachpotz zevach ve'etena, ola lo tirtze.

You do not want me to bring sacrifices; You do not desire burnt offerings;

זִבְחֵי אֱלֹהִים רוּחַ נִשְׁבָּרָה לֵב־נִשְׁבָּר וְנִדְכֶּה אֱלֹהִים לֹא תִבְזֶה׃

Zivchei Elohim ru'ach nishbara, lev nishbar venidke Elohim lo tivze.

True sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit; God, You will not despise a contrite and crushed heart.

הֵיטִיבָה בִרְצוֹנְךָ אֶת־צִיּוֹן תִּבְנֶה חוֹמוֹת יְרוּשָׁלָםִ׃

Hetiva virtzoncha et Tziyon, tivne chomot Yerushalayim.

May it please You to make Zion prosper; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

אָז תַּחְפֹּץ זִבְחֵי־צֶדֶק עוֹלָה וְכָלִיל אָז יַעֲלוּ עַל־מִזְבַּחֲךָ פָרִים׃

Az tachpotz zivchei tzedek ola vechalil, az ya'alu al mizbachacha farim.

Then You will want sacrifices offered in righteousness, burnt and whole offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ מַשְׂכִּיל לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach maskil leDavid.

For the leader. A maskil of David,

בְּבוֹא דּוֹאֵג הָאֲדֹמִי וַיַּגֵּד לְשָׁאוּל וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ בָּא דָוִד אֶל־בֵּית אֲחִימֶלֶךְ׃

Bevo Do'eg ha'Adomi vayaged leSha'ul, vayomer lo ba David el beit Achimelech.

when Doeg the Edomite came and informed Saul, telling him, "David came to the house of Ahimelech."

מַה־תִּתְהַלֵּל בְּרָעָה הַגִּבּוֹר חֶסֶד אֵל כָּל־הַיּוֹם׃

Ma tithalel bera'a hagibor, chesed El kol hayom.

Why do you boast of your evil, brave fellow? God's faithfulness never ceases.

הַוּוֹת תַּחְשֹׁב לְשׁוֹנֶךָ כְּתַעַר מְלֻטָּשׁ עֹשֵׂה רְמִיָּה׃

Havot tachshov leshonecha, keta'ar melutash oseh remiya.

Your tongue devises mischief, like a sharpened razor that works treacherously.

אָהַבְתָּ רָע מִטּוֹב שֶׁקֶר מִדַּבֵּר צֶדֶק סֶלָה׃

Ahavta ra mitov, sheker midaber tzedek, sela.

You prefer evil to good, the lie to speaking truthfully. Selah.

אָהַבְתָּ כָּל־דִּבְרֵי־בָלַע לְשׁוֹן מִרְמָה׃

Ahavta kol divrei vala, leshon mirma.

You love all pernicious words, treacherous speech.

גַּם־אֵל יִתָּצְךָ לָנֶצַח יַחְתְּךָ וְיִסָּחֲךָ מֵאֹהֶל וְשֵׁרֶשְׁךָ מֵאֶרֶץ חַיִּים סֶלָה׃

Gam El yitatzcha lanetzach, yachtecha veyisachacha me'ohel, vesherashcha me'eretz chayim, sela.

So God will tear you down for good, will snatch you up and tear you from your tent, and uproot you from the land of the living. Selah.

וְיִרְאוּ צַדִּיקִים וְיִירָאוּ וְעָלָיו יִשְׂחָקוּ׃

Veyir'u tzadikim veyira'u, ve'alav yischaku.

The righteous, seeing it, will be awestruck; they will laugh at him:

הִנֵּה הַגֶּבֶר לֹא יָשִׂים אֱלֹהִים מָעוּזּוֹ וַיִּבְטַח בְּרֹב עָשְׁרוֹ יָעֹז בְּהַוָּתוֹ׃

Hine hagever lo yasim Elohim ma'uzo, vayivtach berov oshro, ya'oz behvato.

"Here was a fellow who did not make God his refuge, but trusted in his great wealth, relied upon his mischief."

וַאֲנִי כְּזַיִת רַעֲנָן בְּבֵית אֱלֹהִים בָּטַחְתִּי בְחֶסֶד־אֱלֹהִים עוֹלָם וָעֶד׃

Va'ani kezayit ra'anan beveit Elohim, batachti vechesed Elohim olam va'ed.

But I am like a thriving olive tree in God's house; I trust in the faithfulness of God forever and ever.

אוֹדְךָ לְעוֹלָם כִּי עָשִׂיתָ וַאֲקַוֶּה שִׁמְךָ כִי־טוֹב נֶגֶד חֲסִידֶיךָ׃

Odcha le'olam ki asita, va'akave shimcha ki tov neged chasidecha.

I will praise You forever, for You have acted; I will hope in Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your faithful ones.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־מָחֲלַת מַשְׂכִּיל לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach al machalat maskil leDavid.

For the leader; on mahalath. A maskil of David.

אָמַר נָבָל בְּלִבּוֹ אֵין אֱלֹהִים הִשְׁחִיתוּ וְהִתְעִיבוּ עָוֶל אֵין עֹשֵׂה־טוֹב׃

Amar naval belibo ein Elohim, hishchitu vehit'ivu avel, ein oseh tov.

The benighted man thinks, "God does not care." Man's deeds are corrupt and loathsome; no one does good.

אֱלֹהִים מִשָּׁמַיִם הִשְׁקִיף עַל־בְּנֵי אָדָם לִרְאוֹת הֲיֵשׁ מַשְׂכִּיל דֹּרֵשׁ אֶת־אֱלֹהִים׃

Elohim mishamayim hishkif al benei adam, lir'ot hayesh maskil doresh et Elohim.

God looks down from heaven on mankind to find a man of understanding, a man mindful of God.

כֻּלּוֹ סָג יַחְדָּו נֶאֱלָחוּ אֵין עֹשֵׂה־טוֹב אֵין גַּם־אֶחָד׃

Kulo sag yachdav ne'elachu, ein oseh tov ein gam echad.

Everyone is dross, altogether foul; there is none who does good, not even one.

הֲלֹא יָדְעוּ פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן אֹכְלֵי עַמִּי אָכְלוּ לֶחֶם אֱלֹהִים לֹא קָרָאוּ׃

Halo yad'u po'alei aven ochelei ami achlu lechem, Elohim lo kara'u.

Are they so witless, those evildoers, who devour my people as they devour food, and do not invoke God?

שָׁם פָּחֲדוּ פַחַד לֹא־הָיָה פָחַד כִּי־אֱלֹהִים פִּזַּר עַצְמוֹת חֹנָךְ הֱבִשֹׁתָה כִּי־אֱלֹהִים מְאָסָם׃

Sham pachadu fachad lo haya fachad, ki Elohim pizar atzmot chonacha, hevishota ki Elohim me'asam.

There they will be seized with fright—Loss fright there never was—for God has scattered the bones of your besiegers; you have put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

מִי יִתֵּן מִצִּיּוֹן יְשֻׁעוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּשׁוּב אֱלֹהִים שְׁבוּת עַמּוֹ יָגֵל יַעֲקֹב יִשְׂמַח יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Mi yiten miTziyon yeshu'ot Yisrael, beshuv Elohim shevut amo, yagel Ya'akov yismach Yisrael.

O that the deliverance of Israel might come from Zion! When God restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob will exult, Israel will rejoice.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ בִּנְגִינֹת מַשְׂכִּיל לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach binginot maskil leDavid.

For the leader; with instrumental music. A maskil of David,

בְּבֹא הַזִּיפִים וַיֹּאמְרוּ לְשָׁאוּל הֲלֹא דָוִד מִסְתַּתֵּר עִמָּנוּ׃

Bevo haZifim vayomru leSha'ul, halo David mistater imanu.

when the Ziphites came and told Saul, "Know, David is in hiding among us."

אֱלֹהִים בְּשִׁמְךָ הוֹשִׁיעֵנִי וּבִגְבוּרָתְךָ תְדִינֵנִי׃

Elohim beshimcha hoshi'eni, uvigvuratcha tedineni.

O God, deliver me by Your name; by Your power vindicate me.

אֱלֹהִים שְׁמַע תְּפִלָּתִי הַאֲזִינָה לְאִמְרֵי־פִי׃

Elohim shema tefilati, ha'azina le'imrei fi.

O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.

כִּי זָרִים קָמוּ עָלַי וְעָרִיצִים בִּקְשׁוּ נַפְשִׁי לֹא שָׂמוּ אֱלֹהִים לְנֶגְדָּם סֶלָה׃

Ki zarim kamu alai, ve'aritzim bikshu nafshi, lo samu Elohim lenegdam, sela.

For strangers have risen against me, and ruthless men seek my life; they are unmindful of God. Selah.

הִנֵּה אֱלֹהִים עֹזֵר לִי אֲדֹנָי בְּסֹמְכֵי נַפְשִׁי׃

Hine Elohim ozer li, Adonai besomchei nafshi.

See, God is my helper; the Lord is my support.

יָשִׁיב הָרַע לְשֹׁרְרָי בַּאֲמִתְּךָ הַצְמִיתֵם׃

Yashiv hara leshorarai, ba'amitcha hatzmitem.

May He repay the evil of my watchful foes; by Your faithfulness, destroy them.

בִּנְדָבָה אֶזְבְּחָה־לָּךְ אוֹדֶה שִּׁמְךָ יְהוָה כִּי־טוֹב׃

Bindava ezbeche lach, ode shimcha Adonai ki tov.

Then I will offer You a freewill sacrifice; I will praise Your name, LORD, for it is good.

כִּי מִכָּל־צָרָה הִצִּילַנִי וּבְאֹיְבַי רָאֲתָה עֵינִי׃

Ki mikol tzara hitzilani, uve'oyvai ra'ata eini.

For He has saved me from all trouble; I have gazed upon my enemies triumphantly.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ בִּנְגִינֹת מַשְׂכִּיל לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach binginot maskil leDavid.

For the leader; with instrumental music. A maskil of David.

הַאֲזִינָה אֱלֹהִים תְּפִלָּתִי וְאַל־תִּתְעַלַּם מִתְּחִנָּתִי׃

Ha'azina Elohim tefilati, ve'al tit'alam mitchinati.

Give ear, O God, to my prayer; do not ignore my plea;

הַקְשִׁיבָה לִּי וַעֲנֵנִי אָרִיד בְּשִׂיחִי וְאָהִימָה׃

Hakshiva li va'aneni, arid vesichi ve'ahima.

pay heed to me and answer me. I am tossed about, complaining and moaning.

מִקּוֹל אוֹיֵב מִפְּנֵי עָקַת רָשָׁע כִּי־יָמִיטוּ עָלַי אָוֶן וּבְאַף יִשְׂטְמוּנִי׃

Mikol oyev mipnei akat rasha, ki yamitu alai aven, uve'af yistemuni.

At the sound of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked; for they bring evil upon me and furiously rage against me.

לִבִּי יָחִיל בְּקִרְבִּי וְאֵימוֹת מָוֶת נָפְלוּ עָלָי׃

Libi yachil bekirbi, ve'eimot mavet naflu alai.

My heart is convulsed within me; terrors of death assail me.

יִרְאָה וָרַעַד יָבֹא בִי וַתְּכַסֵּנִי פַּלָּצוּת׃

Yir'a vara'ad yavo vi, vatechaseni palatzut.

Fear and trembling invade me; I am clothed in horror.

וָאֹמַר מִי־יִתֶּן־לִי אֵבֶר כַּיּוֹנָה אָעוּפָה וְאֶשְׁכֹּנָה׃

Va'omar mi yiten li ever kayona, a'ufa ve'eshkona.

I said, "O that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and find rest;

הִנֵּה אַרְחִיק נְדֹד אָלִין בַּמִּדְבָּר סֶלָה׃

Hine archik nedod, alin bamidbar, sela.

surely, I would flee far off; I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah.

אָחִישָׁה מִפְלָט לִי מֵרוּחַ סֹעָה מִסָּעַר׃

Achisha miflat li meru'ach so'a misa'ar.

I would soon find me a refuge from the sweeping wind, from the storm.

בַּלַּע אֲדֹנָי פַּלַּג לְשׁוֹנָם כִּי־רָאִיתִי חָמָס וְרִיב בָּעִיר׃

Bala Adonai palag leshonam, ki ra'iti chamas veriv ba'ir.

O Lord, confound their speech, confuse it! For I see lawlessness and strife in the city.

יוֹמָם וָלַיְלָה יְסוֹבְבֻהָ עַל־חוֹמֹתֶיהָ וְאָוֶן וְעָמָל בְּקִרְבָּהּ׃

Yomam valayla yesovevuha al chomoteiha, ve'aven ve'amal bekirba.

Day and night they make the rounds on its walls; evil and mischief are inside it.

הַוּוֹת בְּקִרְבָּהּ וְלֹא־יָמִישׁ מֵרְחֹבָהּ תֹּךְ וּמִרְמָה׃

Havot bekirba, velo yamish merechova toch umirma.

Malice is within it; fraud and deceit never leave its square.

כִּי לֹא־אוֹיֵב יְחָרְפֵנִי וְאֶשָּׂא לֹא־מְשַׂנְאִי עָלַי הִגְדִּיל וְאֶסָּתֵר מִמֶּנּוּ׃

Ki lo oyev yecharfeni ve'esa, lo mesane'i alai higdil ve'esater mimenu.

It is not an enemy who reviles me—I could bear that; it is not my foe who vaunts himself against me—I could hide from him;

וְאַתָּה אֱנוֹשׁ כְּעֶרְכִּי אַלּוּפִי וּמְיֻדָּעִי׃

Ve'ata enosh ke'erki, alufi umeyuda'i.

but it is you, my equal, my companion, my friend,

אֲשֶׁר יַחְדָּו נַמְתִּיק סוֹד בְּבֵית אֱלֹהִים נְהַלֵּךְ בְּרָגֶשׁ׃

Asher yachdav namtik sod, beveit Elohim nehalech beragesh.

with whom I used to have sweet fellowship in the House of God, walking together in the crowd.

יַשִּׁימָוֶת עָלֵימוֹ יֵרְדוּ שְׁאוֹל חַיִּים כִּי־רָעוֹת בִּמְגוּרָם בְּקִרְבָּם׃

Yashimavet alemo, yerdu she'ol chayim, ki ra'ot bimguram bekirbam.

Let Him incite death against them; may they go down alive into Sheol! For where they dwell, there evil is in their midst.

אֲנִי אֶל־אֱלֹהִים אֶקְרָא וַיהוָה יוֹשִׁיעֵנִי׃

Ani el Elohim ekra, vaAdonai yoshi'eni.

As for me, I call upon God; the LORD will deliver me.

עֶרֶב וָבֹקֶר וְצָהֳרַיִם אָשִׂיחָה וְאֶהֱמֶה וַיִּשְׁמַע קוֹלִי׃

Erev vavoker vetzohorayim asicha ve'eheme, vayishma koli.

Evening, morning, and noon, I complain and moan, and He hears my voice.

פָּדָה בְשָׁלוֹם נַפְשִׁי מִקְּרָב־לִי כִּי־בְרַבִּים הָיוּ עִמָּדִי׃

Pada veshalom nafshi mikerav li, ki verabim hayu imadi.

He redeems me unharmed from the battle against me; for many are against me.

יִשְׁמַע אֵל וְיַעֲנֵם וְיֹשֵׁב קֶדֶם סֶלָה אֲשֶׁר אֵין חֲלִיפוֹת לָמוֹ וְלֹא יָרְאוּ אֱלֹהִים׃

Yishma El veya'anem, veyoshev kedem sela, asher ein chalifot lamo velo yar'u Elohim.

God who has reigned from of old will hear and humble them, Selah, those who do not change, and fear not God.

שָׁלַח יָדָיו בִּשְׁלֹמָיו חִלֵּל בְּרִיתוֹ׃

Shalach yadav bishlomav, chilel berito.

He stretched out his hand against his allies, violated his covenant.

חָלְקוּ מַחְמָאֹת פִּיו וּקְרָב לִבּוֹ רַכּוּ דְבָרָיו מִשֶּׁמֶן וְהֵמָּה פְתִחוֹת׃

Chalku machma'ot piv ukrav libo, rachu devarav mishemen vehema fetichot.

His speech is smoother than butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.

הַשְׁלֵךְ עַל־יְהוָה יְהָבְךָ וְהוּא יְכַלְכְּלֶךָ לֹא־יִתֵּן לְעוֹלָם מוֹט לַצַּדִּיק׃

Hashlech al Adonai yehavcha, vehu yechalkelecha, lo yiten le'olam mot latzadik.

Cast your burden on the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous man collapse.

וְאַתָּה אֱלֹהִים תּוֹרִדֵם לִבְאֵר שַׁחַת אַנְשֵׁי דָמִים וּמִרְמָה לֹא־יֶחֱצוּ יְמֵיהֶם וַאֲנִי אֶבְטַח־בָּךְ׃

Ve'ata Elohim toridem liv'er shachat, anshei damim umirma lo yechetzu yemeihem, va'ani evtach bach.

For You, O God, will bring them down to the lowest pit—those murderous, treacherous men; they shall not live out half their days; but I trust in You.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־יוֹנַת אֵלֶם רְחֹקִים לְדָוִד מִכְתָּם בֶּאֱחֹז אוֹתוֹ פְלִשְׁתִּים בְּגַת׃

Lamnatzei'ach al yonat elem rechokim leDavid michtam, be'echoz oto Felishtim beGat.

For the leader; on yonath elem rehokim. Of David. A michtam; when the Philistines seized him in Gath.

חָנֵּנִי אֱלֹהִים כִּי־שְׁאָפַנִי אֱנוֹשׁ כָּל־הַיּוֹם לֹחֵם יִלְחָצֵנִי׃

Choneni Elohim ki she'afani enosh, kol hayom lochem yilchatzeni.

Have mercy on me, O God, for men persecute me; all day long my adversary oppresses me.

שָׁאֲפוּ שׁוֹרְרַי כָּל־הַיּוֹם כִּי־רַבִּים לֹחֲמִים לִי מָרוֹם׃

Sha'afu shorerai kol hayom, ki rabim lochamim li marom.

My watchful foes persecute me all day long; many are my arrogant assailants.

יוֹם אִירָא אֲנִי אֵלֶיךָ אֶבְטָח׃

Yom ira ani elecha evtach.

When I am afraid, I trust in You,

בֵּאלֹהִים אֲהַלֵּל דְּבָרוֹ בֵּאלֹהִים בָּטַחְתִּי לֹא אִירָא מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂה בָשָׂר לִי׃

BElohim ahalel devaro, bElohim batachti lo ira, ma ya'ase vasar li.

in God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can mortals do to me?

כָּל־הַיּוֹם דְּבָרַי יְעַצֵּבוּ עָלַי כָּל־מַחְשְׁבֹתָם לָרָע׃

Kol hayom devarai ye'atzevu, alai kol machshevotam lara.

All day long they cause me grief in their plotting; all their schemes against me are evil.

יָגוּרוּ יִצְפּוֹנוּ הֵמָּה עֲקֵבַי יִשְׁמֹרוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר קִוּוּ נַפְשִׁי׃

Yaguru yitzponu hema akevai yishmoru, ka'asher kivu nafshi.

They conspire, they lie in wait; they watch my every step, hoping to take my life.

עַל־אָוֶן פַּלֶּט־לָמוֹ בְּאַף עַמִּים הוֹרֵד אֱלֹהִים׃

Al aven palet lamo, be'af amim hored Elohim.

Cast them out for their iniquity; in Your anger, O God, bring peoples down!

נֹדִי סָפַרְתָּה אָתָּה שִׂימָה דִמְעָתִי בְנֹאדֶךָ הֲלֹא בְּסִפְרָתֶךָ׃

Nodi safarta ata, sima dim'ati veno'decha, halo besifratecha.

You keep count of my wanderings; put my tears in Your flask, in Your record.

אָז יָשׁוּבוּ אוֹיְבַי אָחוֹר בְּיוֹם אֶקְרָא זֶה־יָדַעְתִּי כִּי־אֱלֹהִים לִי׃

Az yashuvu oyvai achor beyom ekra, ze yadati ki Elohim li.

Then my enemies will retreat when I call on You; this I know, that God is for me.

בֵּאלֹהִים אֲהַלֵּל דָּבָר בַּיהוָה אֲהַלֵּל דָּבָר׃

BElohim ahalel davar, baAdonai ahalel davar.

In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise,

בֵּאלֹהִים בָּטַחְתִּי לֹא אִירָא מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂה אָדָם לִי׃

BElohim batachti lo ira, ma ya'ase adam li.

in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can man do to me?

עָלַי אֱלֹהִים נְדָרֶיךָ אֲשַׁלֵּם תּוֹדֹת לָךְ׃

Alai Elohim nedarecha, ashalem todot lach.

I must pay my vows to You, O God; I will render thank offerings to You.

כִּי הִצַּלְתָּ נַפְשִׁי מִמָּוֶת הֲלֹא רַגְלַי מִדֶּחִי לְהִתְהַלֵּךְ לִפְנֵי אֱלֹהִים בְּאוֹר הַחַיִּים׃

Ki hitzalta nafshi mimavet, halo raglai midechi, lehithalech lifnei Elohim be'or hachayim.

For You have saved my life from death, my foot from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ אַל־תַּשְׁחֵת לְדָוִד מִכְתָּם בְּבָרְחוֹ מִפְּנֵי־שָׁאוּל בַּמְּעָרָה׃

Lamnatzei'ach al tashchet leDavid michtam, bevorcho mipnei Sha'ul bame'ara.

For the leader; al tashheth. Of David. A michtam; when he fled from Saul into a cave.

חָנֵּנִי אֱלֹהִים חָנֵּנִי כִּי בְךָ חָסָיָה נַפְשִׁי וּבְצֵל־כְּנָפֶיךָ אֶחְסֶה עַד יַעֲבֹר הַוּוֹת׃

Choneni Elohim choneni ki vecha chasaya nafshi, uvetzel kenafecha echse ad ya'avor havot.

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in You I seek refuge, in the shadow of Your wings I seek refuge, till disasters pass.

אֶקְרָא לֵאלֹהִים עֶלְיוֹן לָאֵל גֹּמֵר עָלָי׃

Ekra lElohim Elyon, la'El gomer alai.

I call to God Most High, to God who is good to me.

יִשְׁלַח מִשָּׁמַיִם וְיוֹשִׁיעֵנִי חֵרֵף שֹׁאֲפִי סֶלָה יִשְׁלַח אֱלֹהִים חַסְדּוֹ וַאֲמִתּוֹ׃

Yishlach mishamayim veyoshi'eni, cheref sho'afi sela, yishlach Elohim chasdo va'amito.

He will reach down from heaven and deliver me from those who persecute me. Selah. God will send His loving care and faithfulness.

נַפְשִׁי בְּתוֹךְ לְבָאִם אֶשְׁכְּבָה לֹהֲטִים בְּנֵי־אָדָם שִׁנֵּיהֶם חֲנִית וְחִצִּים וּלְשׁוֹנָם חֶרֶב חַדָּה׃

Nafshi betoch leva'im eshkeva lohatim, benei adam shineihem chanit vechitzim, uleshonam cherev chada.

I lie down among lions, raging beasts, men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongue is a sharp sword.

רוּמָה עַל־הַשָּׁמַיִם אֱלֹהִים עַל כָּל־הָאָרֶץ כְּבוֹדֶךָ׃

Ruma al hashamayim Elohim, al kol ha'aretz kevodecha.

Exalt Yourself over the heavens, O God; let Your glory be over all the earth!

רֶשֶׁת הֵכִינוּ לִפְעָמַי כָּפַף נַפְשִׁי כָּרוּ לְפָנַי שִׁיחָה נָפְלוּ בְתוֹכָהּ סֶלָה׃

Reshet hechinu lif'amai kafaf nafshi, karu lefanai shicha naflu vetocha, sela.

They prepared a net for my feet to ensnare me; they dug a pit for me, but fell into it themselves. Selah.

נָכוֹן לִבִּי אֱלֹהִים נָכוֹן לִבִּי אָשִׁירָה וַאֲזַמֵּרָה׃

Nachon libi Elohim nachon libi, ashira va'azamera.

My heart is firm, O God, my heart is firm; I will sing and chant a hymn.

עוּרָה כְבוֹדִי עוּרָה הַנֵּבֶל וְכִנּוֹר אָעִירָה שָּׁחַר׃

Ura chevodi ura hanevel vechinor, a'ira shachar.

Awake, O my soul! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will wake the dawn.

אוֹדְךָ בָעַמִּים אֲדֹנָי אֲזַמֶּרְךָ בַּלְאֻמִּים׃

Odcha va'amim Adonai, azamercha bale'umim.

I will praise You among the peoples, O Lord, sing a hymn to You among the nations;

כִּי־גָדֹל עַד־שָׁמַיִם חַסְדֶּךָ וְעַד־שְׁחָקִים אֲמִתֶּךָ׃

Ki gadol ad shamayim chasdecha, ve'ad shchakim amitecha.

for Your faithfulness is as high as heaven; Your steadfastness reaches to the sky.

רוּמָה עַל־שָׁמַיִם אֱלֹהִים עַל כָּל־הָאָרֶץ כְּבוֹדֶךָ׃

Ruma al shamayim Elohim, al kol ha'aretz kevodecha.

Exalt Yourself over the heavens, O God; let Your glory be over all the earth!

לַמְנַצֵּחַ אַל־תַּשְׁחֵת לְדָוִד מִכְתָּם׃

הַאֻמְנָם אֵלֶם צֶדֶק תְּדַבֵּרוּן מֵישָׁרִים תִּשְׁפְּטוּ בְּנֵי אָדָם׃

Ha'umnam elem tzedek tedaberun, meisharim tishpetu benei adam.

O mighty ones, do you really decree what is just? Do you judge mankind with equity?

אַף־בְּלֵב עוֹלֹת תִּפְעָלוּן בָּאָרֶץ חֲמַס יְדֵיכֶם תְּפַלֵּסוּן׃

Af belev olot tif'alun, ba'aretz chamas yedeichem tefalesun.

In your hearts you devise wrongdoing in the land; with your hands you smooth the way for lawlessness.

זֹרוּ רְשָׁעִים מֵרָחֶם תָּעוּ מִבֶּטֶן דֹּבְרֵי כָזָב׃

Zoru resha'im merachem, ta'u mibeten dovrei chazav.

The wicked are corrupt from birth; the liars go astray from the womb.

חֲמַת־לָמוֹ כִּדְמוּת חֲמַת־נָחָשׁ כְּמוֹ־פֶתֶן חֵרֵשׁ יַאְטֵם אָזְנוֹ׃

Chamat lamo kidmut chamat nachash, kemo feten cheresh yat'em ozno.

Their venom is like that of a snake, like a deaf viper that stops its ear

אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יִשְׁמַע לְקוֹל מְלַחֲשִׁים חוֹבֵר חֲבָרִים מְחֻכָּם׃

Asher lo yishma lekol melachashim, chover chavarim mechukam.

so as not to hear the voice of charmers or the expert mutterer of spells.

אֱלֹהִים הֲרָס־שִׁנֵּימוֹ בְּפִימוֹ מַלְתְּעוֹת כְּפִירִים נְתֹץ יְהוָה׃

Elohim haras shinemo befimo, malte'ot kefirim netoz Adonai.

O God, smash their teeth in their mouth; shatter the fangs of lions, O LORD;

יִמָּאֲסוּ כְמוֹ־מַיִם יִתְהַלְּכוּ־לָמוֹ יִדְרֹךְ חִצָּו כְּמוֹ יִתְמֹלָלוּ׃

Yima'asu chemo mayim yithalchu lamo, yidroch chitzav kemo yitmolalu.

let them melt, like water running off; when they aim their arrows, let them crumble.

כְּמוֹ שַׁבְּלוּל תֶּמֶס יַהֲלֹךְ נֵפֶל אֵשֶׁת בַּל־חָזוּ שָׁמֶשׁ׃

Kemo shablul temes yahaloch, nefel eshet bal chazu shamesh.

Like a snail that melts away as it moves, like a woman's stillbirth, may they never see the sun!

בְּטֶרֶם יָבִינוּ סִּירֹתֵיכֶם אָטָד כְּמוֹ־חַי כְּמוֹ־חָרוֹן יִשְׂעָרֶנּוּ׃

Beterem yavinu siroteichem atad, kemo chai kemo charon yis'arenu.

Before your thorns grow into bushes, alive or charred, may He blast them!

יִשְׂמַח צַדִּיק כִּי־חָזָה נָקָם פְּעָמָיו יִרְחַץ בְּדַם הָרָשָׁע׃

Yismach tzadik ki chaza nakam, pe'amav yirchatz bedam harasha.

The righteous man will rejoice when he sees revenge; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.

וְיֹאמַר אָדָם אַךְ־פְּרִי לַצַּדִּיק אַךְ יֵשׁ־אֱלֹהִים שֹׁפְטִים בָּאָרֶץ׃

Veyomar adam ach peri latzadik, ach yesh Elohim shoftim ba'aretz.

Men will say, "There is, then, a reward for the righteous; there is, indeed, divine justice on earth."

לַמְנַצֵּחַ אַל־תַּשְׁחֵת לְדָוִד מִכְתָּם בִּשְׁלֹחַ שָׁאוּל וַיִּשְׁמְרוּ אֶת־הַבַּיִת לַהֲמִיתוֹ׃

Lamnatzei'ach al tashchet leDavid michtam, bishloch Sha'ul vayishmeru et habayit lahamito.

For the leader; al tashheth. Of David. A michtam; when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him.

הַצִּילֵנִי מֵאֹיְבַי אֱלֹהָי מִּמִתְקוֹמְמַי תְּשַׂגְּבֵנִי׃

Hatzileni me'oyvai Elohai, mimitkommai tesagveni.

Save me from my enemies, O my God; secure me against those who attack me.

הַצִּילֵנִי מִפֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן וּמֵאַנְשֵׁי דָמִים הוֹשִׁיעֵנִי׃

Hatzileni mipo'alei aven, ume'anshei damim hoshi'eni.

Save me from evildoers; deliver me from bloodthirsty men.

כִּי הִנֵּה אָרְבוּ לְנַפְשִׁי יָגוּרוּ עָלַי עַזִּים לֹא־פִשְׁעִי וְלֹא־חַטָּאתִי יְהוָה׃

Ki hine arvu lenafshi, yaguru alai azim, lo fish'i velo chatati Adonai.

See, they lie in wait for me; fierce men plot against me for no offense of mine, for no sin, O LORD.

בְּלִי־עָוֺן יְרוּצוּן וְיִכּוֹנָנוּ עוּרָה לִקְרָאתִי וּרְאֵה׃

Beli avon yerutzun veyikonanu, ura likrati ur'e.

For no guilt of mine, they rush to array themselves against me; rouse Yourself to come to my aid and to see.

וְאַתָּה יְהוָה־אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הָקִיצָה לִפְקֹד כָּל־הַגּוֹיִם אַל־תָּחֹן כָּל־בֹּגְדֵי אָוֶן סֶלָה׃

Ve'ata Adonai Elohim tzeva'ot Elohei Yisrael, hakitza lifkod kol hagoyim, al tachon kol bogdei aven sela.

You, O LORD God of hosts, God of Israel, bestir Yourself to punish all the nations; have no mercy on any treacherous villain. Selah.

יָשׁוּבוּ לָעֶרֶב יֶהֱמוּ כַכָּלֶב וִיסוֹבְבוּ עִיר׃

Yashuvu la'erev yehemu kachalev, visovevu ir.

They come each evening growling like dogs, roaming the city.

הִנֵּה יַבִּיעוּן בְּפִיהֶם חֲרָבוֹת בְּשִׂפְתוֹתֵיהֶם כִּי־מִי שֹׁמֵעַ׃

Hine yabi'un befihem, charavot besiftoteihem, ki mi shome'a.

Look, they spew forth with their mouths, swords on their lips: "For who will hear?"

וְאַתָּה יְהוָה תִּשְׂחַק־לָמוֹ תִּלְעַג לְכָל־גּוֹיִם׃

Ve'ata Adonai tischak lamo, til'ag lechol goyim.

But You, O LORD, will laugh at them; You mock all the nations.

עֻזּוֹ אֵלֶיךָ אֶשְׁמֹרָה כִּי־אֱלֹהִים מִשְׂגַּבִּי׃

Uzo elecha eshmora, ki Elohim misgabi.

O my strength, I wait for You; for God is my haven.

אֱלֹהֵי חַסְדִּי יְקַדְּמֵנִי אֱלֹהִים יַרְאֵנִי בְשֹׁרְרָי׃

Elohei chasdi yekadmeni, Elohim yar'eni veshorerai.

God's faithfulness will meet me; God will let me gloat over my watchful foes.

אַל־תַּהַרְגֵם פֶּן־יִשְׁכְּחוּ עַמִּי הֲנִיעֵמוֹ בְחֵילְךָ וְהוֹרִידֵמוֹ מָגִנֵּנוּ אֲדֹנָי׃

Al tahargem pen yishkechu ami, hani'emo vechelcha vehoridemo maginenu Adonai.

Do not kill them, lest my people be unmindful; with Your power make wanderers of them; bring them low, O our shield, the Lord,

חַטַּאת־פִּימוֹ דְּבַר־שְׂפָתֵימוֹ וְיִלָּכְדוּ בִגְאוֹנָם וּמֵאָלָה וּמִכַּחַשׁ יְסַפֵּרוּ׃

Chatat pimo devar sefateimo, veyilachedu vigeonam, ume'ala umikachash yesaperu.

for the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips; let them be trapped by their pride, for the curses and lies they utter.

כַּלֵּה בְחֵמָה כַּלֵּה וְאֵינֵמוֹ וְיֵדְעוּ כִּי־אֱלֹהִים מֹשֵׁל בְּיַעֲקֹב לְאַפְסֵי הָאָרֶץ סֶלָה׃

Kale vechema kale ve'einemo, veyedu ki Elohim moshel beYa'akov le'afsei ha'aretz sela.

In Your fury make an end of them; make an end of them that they be no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah.

וְיָשׁוּבוּ לָעֶרֶב יֶהֱמוּ כַכָּלֶב וִיסוֹבְבוּ עִיר׃

Veyashuvu la'erev yehemu kachalev, visovevu ir.

They come each evening growling like dogs, roaming the city.

הֵמָּה יְנִיעוּן לֶאֱכֹל אִם־לֹא יִשְׂבְּעוּ וַיָּלִינוּ׃

Hema yeni'un le'echol, im lo yisbe'u vayalinu.

They roam about hunting for food; if they are not satisfied, they snarl.

וַאֲנִי אָשִׁיר עֻזֶּךָ וַאֲרַנֵּן לַבֹּקֶר חַסְדֶּךָ כִּי־הָיִיתָ מִשְׂגָּב לִי וּמָנוֹס בְּיוֹם צַר־לִי׃

Va'ani ashir uzecha, va'aranen laboker chasdecha, ki hayita misgav li umanos beyom tzar li.

But I will sing of Your strength, extol each morning Your faithfulness; for You have been my haven, a refuge in time of trouble.

עֻזִּי אֵלֶיךָ אֲזַמֵּרָה כִּי־אֱלֹהִים מִשְׂגַּבִּי אֱלֹהֵי חַסְדִּי׃

Uzi elecha azamera, ki Elohim misgabi Elohei chasdi.

O my strength, to You I sing hymns; for God is my haven, my faithful God.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־שׁוּשַׁן עֵדוּת מִכְתָּם לְדָוִד לְלַמֵּד׃

Lamnatzei'ach al shushan edut michtam leDavid lelamed.

For the leader; on shushan eduth. A michtam of David (to be taught);

בְּהַצּוֹתוֹ אֶת אֲרַם נַהֲרַיִם וְאֶת־אֲרַם צוֹבָה וַיָּשָׁב יוֹאָב וַיַּךְ אֶת־אֱדוֹם בְּגֵיא־מֶלַח שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר אָלֶף׃

Behatzoto et Aram Naharayim ve'et Aram Tzova, vayashav Yo'av vayach et Edom begei melach shneim asar alef.

when he fought with Aram-naharaim and Aram-zobah, and Joab returned and defeated Edom—twelve thousand men in the Valley of Salt.

אֱלֹהִים זְנַחְתָּנוּ פְרַצְתָּנוּ אָנַפְתָּ תְּשׁוֹבֵב לָנוּ׃

Elohim zenachtanu feratzanu, anafta teshovev lanu.

O God, You have rejected us, You have made a breach in us; You have been angry; restore us!

הִרְעַשְׁתָּה אֶרֶץ פְּצַמְתָּהּ רְפָה שְׁבָרֶיהָ כִי־מָטָה׃

Hir'ashta eretz petzamtah, refa shevareha ki mata.

You have made the land quake; You have torn it open. Mend its fissures, for it is collapsing.

הִרְאִיתָ עַמְּךָ קָשָׁה הִשְׁקִיתָנוּ יַיִן תַּרְעֵלָה׃

Hir'ita amcha kasha, hishkitanu yayin tar'ela.

You have made Your people suffer hardship; You have given us wine that makes us reel.

נָתַתָּה לִּירֵאֶיךָ נֵּס לְהִתְנוֹסֵס מִפְּנֵי קֹשֶׁט סֶלָה׃

Natata lire'echa nes lehitnoses mipnei koshet sela.

Give those who fear You a banner for rallying, because of Your truth. Selah.

לְמַעַן יֵחָלְצוּן יְדִידֶיךָ הוֹשִׁיעָה יְמִינְךָ וַעֲנֵנִי׃

Lema'an yechaltzun yedidecha, hoshi'a yemincha va'aneni.

That those You love may be rescued, deliver with Your right hand and answer me.

אֱלֹהִים דִּבֶּר בְּקָדְשׁוֹ אֶעְלֹזָה אֲחַלְּקָה שְׁכֶם וְעֵמֶק סֻכּוֹת אֲמַדֵּד׃

Elohim diber bekodsho e'eloza, achalka Shechem ve'emek Sukot amadad.

God promised in His sanctuary; I will exult, I will divide up Shechem, and measure out the Valley of Sukkot.

לִי גִלְעָד וְלִי מְנַשֶּׁה וְאֶפְרַיִם מָעוֹז רֹאשִׁי יְהוּדָה מְחֹקְקִי׃

Li Gil'ad veli Menashe, ve'Efrayim ma'oz roshi, Yehuda mechokeki.

Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine, Ephraim is My chief stronghold, Judah is My scepter.

מוֹאָב סִיר רַחְצִי עַל־אֱדוֹם אַשְׁלִיךְ נַעֲלִי עָלַי פְּלֶשֶׁת הִתְרוֹעָעִי׃

Mo'av sir rachzi, al Edom ashlich na'ali, alai Peleshet hitro'a'i.

Moab is My washbasin; on Edom I cast My shoe; shout because of Me, O Philistia!

מִי יֹבִלֵנִי עִיר מָצוֹר מִי נָחַנִי עַד־אֱדוֹם׃

Mi yovleni ir matzor, mi nachani ad Edom.

Who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?

הֲלֹא־אַתָּה אֱלֹהִים זְנַחְתָּנוּ וְלֹא־תֵצֵא אֱלֹהִים בְּצִבְאוֹתֵינוּ׃

Halo Ata Elohim zenachtanu, velo tetze Elohim betziv'oteinu.

Have You not, O God, rejected us? God, You do not march with our armies.

הָבָה־לָּנוּ עֶזְרָת מִצָּר וְשָׁוְא תְּשׁוּעַת אָדָם׃

Hava lanu ezrat mitzar, veshav teshu'at adam.

Grant us Your aid against the foe, for the help of man is worthless.

בֵּאלֹהִים נַעֲשֶׂה־חָיִל וְהוּא יָבוּס צָרֵינוּ׃

BElohim na'ase chayil, vehu yavus tzareinu.

With God we shall triumph; He will trample our foes.
