תהילים 31-40

לַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader. A psalm of David.

בְּךָ־יְהוָה חָסִיתִי אַל־אֵבוֹשָׁה לְעוֹלָם בְּצִדְקָתְךָ פַלְּטֵנִי׃

Becha Adonai chasiti, al evosha le'olam, betzidkatcha paleteni.

In You, O LORD, I seek refuge; may I never be disappointed; as You are righteous, rescue me.

הַטֵּה אֵלַי אָזְנְךָ מְהֵרָה הַצִּילֵנִי הֱיֵה לִי לְצוּר־מָעוֹז לְבֵית מְצוּדוֹת לְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי׃

Hate elai oznecha, mehera hatzileni, heyeh li letzur ma'oz, leveit metzudot lehoshi'eni.

Turn Your ear to me; be quick to save me; be a rock, a stronghold for me, a citadel, for my deliverance.

כִּי־סַלְעִי וּמְצוּדָתִי אָתָּה וּלְמַעַן שִׁמְךָ תַּנְחֵנִי וּתְנַהֲלֵנִי׃

Ki sal'i umetzudati ata, ulema'an shimcha tancheni utenahaleni.

For You are my rock and my fortress; You lead me and guide me as befits Your name.

תּוֹצִיאֵנִי מֵרֶשֶׁת זוּ טָמְנוּ לִי כִּי־אַתָּה מָעוּזִּי׃

Totzi'eni mereshet zu tamnu li, ki ata ma'uzi.

You free me from the net laid for me, for You are my stronghold.

בְּיָדְךָ אַפְקִיד רוּחִי פָּדִיתָה אוֹתִי יְהוָה אֵל אֱמֶת׃

Beyadcha afkid ruchi, padita oti Adonai El emet.

Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem me, O LORD, faithful God.

שָׂנֵאתִי הַשֹּׁמְרִים הַבְלֵי־שָׁוְא וַאֲנִי אֶל־יְהוָה בָּטָחְתִּי׃

Saneti hashomrim havlei shav, va'ani el Adonai batachti.

I detest those who rely on empty folly, but I trust in the LORD.

אָגִילָה וְאֶשְׂמְחָה בְּחַסְדֶּךָ אֲשֶׁר רָאִיתָ אֶת־עָנְיִי יָדַעְתָּ בְּצָרוֹת נַפְשִׁי׃

Agila ve'esmecha bechasdecha, asher ra'ita et onyi, yadata betzarot nafshi.

Let me exult and rejoice in Your faithfulness when You notice my affliction, are mindful of my deep distress,

וְלֹא הִסְגַּרְתַּנִי בְּיַד־אוֹיֵב הֶעֱמַדְתָּ בַמֶּרְחָב רַגְלָי׃

Velo hisgartani beyad oyev, he'emadta vamerchav raglai.

and do not hand me over to my enemy, but grant me relief.

חָנֵּנִי יְהוָה כִּי צַר־לִי עָשְׁשָׁה בְכַעַס עֵינִי נַפְשִׁי וּבִטְנִי׃

Chaneni Adonai ki tzar li, ashsha vecha'as eini, nafshi uvitni.

Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes are wasted by vexation, my substance and body too.

כִּי כָלוּ בְיָגוֹן חַיַּי וּשְׁנוֹתַי בַּאֲנָחָה כָּשַׁל בַּעֲוֺנִי כֹחִי וַעֲצָמַי עָשֵׁשׁוּ׃

Ki chalu veyagon chayai ushnotai ba'anacha, kashal ba'avoni chochi va'atzamai osheshu.

My life is spent in sorrow, my years in groaning; my strength fails because of my iniquity, my bones are wasted away.

מִכָּל־צֹרְרַי הָיִיתִי חֶרְפָּה וְלִשְׁכֵנַי מְאֹד וּפַחַד לִמְיֻדָּעָי רֹאַי בַּחוּץ נָדְדוּ מִמֶּנִּי׃

Mikol tzorerai hayiti cherpa, velishchenai me'od, ufachad limyuda'ai, ro'ai bachuz nadedu mimeni.

Because of all my foes I am the particular butt of my neighbors, a horror to my friends; those who see me on the street avoid me.

נִשְׁכַּחְתִּי כְּמֵת מִלֵּב הָיִיתִי כִּכְלִי אֹבֵד׃

Nishkachti kemet milev, hayiti kichli oved.

I am put out of mind like the dead; I am like an object given up for lost.

כִּי שָׁמַעְתִּי דִּבַּת רַבִּים מָגוֹר מִסָּבִיב בְּהִוָּסְדָם יַחַד עָלַי לָקַחַת נַפְשִׁי זָמָמוּ׃

Ki shamati dibat rabim, magor misaviv, behivasdam yachad alai, lakachat nafshi zamamu.

I hear the whisperings of many, intrigue on every side, as they scheme together against me, plotting to take my life.

וַאֲנִי עָלֶיךָ בָטַחְתִּי יְהוָה אָמַרְתִּי אֱלֹהַי אָתָּה׃

Va'ani alecha vatachti Adonai, amarti Elohai ata.

But I trust in You, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."

בְּיָדְךָ עִתֹּתָי הַצִּילֵנִי מִיַּד־אוֹיְבַי וּמֵרֹדְפָי׃

Beyadcha itotai, hatzileni miyad oyvai umerodfai.

My fate is in Your hand; save me from the hand of my enemies and pursuers.

הָאִירָה פָנֶיךָ עַל־עַבְדֶּךָ הוֹשִׁיעֵנִי בְחַסְדֶּךָ׃

Ha'ira fanecha al avdecha, hoshi'eni vechasdecha.

Show favor to Your servant; as You are faithful, deliver me.

יְהוָה אַל־אֵבוֹשָׁה כִּי קְרָאתִיךָ יֵבֹשׁוּ רְשָׁעִים יִדְּמוּ לִשְׁאוֹל׃

Adonai al evosha ki keraticha, yevoshu resha'im yidmu lish'ol.

O LORD, let me not be disappointed when I call You; let the wicked be disappointed; let them be silenced in Sheol.

תֵּאָלַמְנָה שִׂפְתֵי שָׁקֶר הַדֹּבְרוֹת עַל־צַדִּיק עָתָק בְּגַאֲוָה וָבוּז׃

Te'alamna siftei shaker, hadovrot al tzadik atak bega'ava vavuz.

Let lying lips be stilled that speak haughtily against the righteous with arrogance and contempt.

מָה רַב־טוּבְךָ אֲשֶׁר־צָפַנְתָּ לִּירֵאֶיךָ פָּעַלְתָּ לַחֹסִים בָּךְ נֶגֶד בְּנֵי אָדָם׃

Ma rav tuvcha asher tzafanta lirei'echa, pa'alta lachosim bach neged benei adam.

How abundant is the good that You have in store for those who fear You, that You do in the full view of men for those who take refuge in You.

תַּסְתִּירֵם בְּסֵתֶר פָּנֶיךָ מֵרֻכְסֵי אִישׁ תִּצְפְּנֵם בְּסֻכָּה מֵרִיב לְשֹׁנוֹת׃

Tastirem beseter panecha meruchsei ish, titzpenem besuka meriv leshonot.

You grant them the shelter of Your presence against scheming men; You shelter them in Your pavilion from contentious tongues.

בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה כִּי הִפְלִיא חַסְדּוֹ לִי בְּעִיר מָצוֹר׃

Baruch Adonai ki hifli chasdo li be'ir matzor.

Blessed is the LORD, for He has been wondrously faithful to me, a veritable bastion.

וַאֲנִי אָמַרְתִּי בְחָפְזִי נִגְרַזְתִּי מִנֶּגֶד עֵינֶיךָ אָכֵן שָׁמַעְתָּ קוֹל תַּחֲנוּנַי בְּשַׁוְּעִי אֵלֶיךָ׃

Va'ani amarti vechofzi nigrazti mineged einecha, achen shamata kol tachanunai beshav'i elecha.

Alarmed, I had thought, "I am thrust out of Your sight"; yet You listened to my plea for mercy when I cried out to You.

אֶהֱבוּ אֶת־יְהוָה כָּל־חֲסִידָיו אֱמוּנִים נֹצֵר יְהוָה וּמְשַׁלֵּם עַל־יֶתֶר עֹשֵׂה גַאֲוָה׃

Ehevu et Adonai kol chasidav, emunim notzer Adonai, umeshalem al yeter oseh ga'ava.

Love the LORD, all you faithful; the LORD guards the loyal, and more than requites him who acts arrogantly.

חִזְקוּ וְיַאֲמֵץ לְבַבְכֶם כָּל־הַמְיַחֲלִים לַיהוָה׃

Chizku veya'ametz levavchem, kol hamyachalim laAdonai.

Be strong and of good courage, all you who wait for the LORD.

לְדָוִד מַשְׂכִּיל אַשְׁרֵי נְשׂוּי־פֶּשַׁע כְּסוּי חֲטָאָה׃

LeDavid maskil. Ashrei nesui pesha, kesui chata'a.

Of David. A maskil. Happy is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered over.

אַשְׁרֵי אָדָם לֹא יַחְשֹׁב יְהוָה לוֹ עָוֺן וְאֵין בְּרוּחוֹ רְמִיָּה׃

Ashrei adam lo yachshov Adonai lo avon, ve'ein berucho remiya.

Happy the man whom the LORD does not hold guilty, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

כִּי־הֶחֱרַשְׁתִּי בָּלוּ עֲצָמָי בְּשַׁאֲגָתִי כָּל־הַיּוֹם׃

Ki hecherashti balu atzamai, besha'agati kol hayom.

As long as I said nothing, my limbs wasted away from my anguished roaring all day long.

כִּי יוֹמָם וָלַיְלָה תִּכְבַּד עָלַי יָדֶךָ נֶהְפַּךְ לְשַׁדִּי בְּחַרְבֹנֵי קַיִץ סֶלָה׃

Ki yomam valayla tichbad alai yadecha, nehpach leshadi becharvenei kayitz, sela.

For night and day Your hand lay heavy on me; my vigor waned as in the summer drought. Selah.

חַטָּאתִי אוֹדִיעֲךָ וַעֲוֺנִי לֹא־כִסִּיתִי אָמַרְתִּי אוֹדֶה עֲלֵי פְשָׁעַי לַיהוָה וְאַתָּה נָשָׂאתָ עֲוֺן חַטָּאתִי סֶלָה׃

Chatati odi'acha, va'avoni lo chisiti, amarti odeh alei fesha'ai laAdonai, ve'ata nasata avon chatati, sela.

Then I acknowledged my sin to You; I did not cover up my guilt; I resolved, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.

עַל־זֹאת יִתְפַּלֵּל כָּל־חָסִיד אֵלֶיךָ לְעֵת מְצֹא רַק לְשֵׁטֶף מַיִם רַבִּים אֵלָיו לֹא יַגִּיעוּ׃

Al zot yitpalel kol chasid elecha le'et metzo, rak leshetef mayim rabim elav lo yagi'u.

Therefore let every faithful man pray to You upon discovering [his sin], that the rushing mighty waters not overtake him.

אַתָּה סֵתֶר לִי מִצַּר תִּצְּרֵנִי רָנֵּי פַלֵּט תְּסוֹבְבֵנִי סֶלָה׃

Ata seter li mitzar titzreni, ranei falet tesoveveni, sela.

You are my shelter; You preserve me from distress; You surround me with the joyous shouts of deliverance. Selah.

אַשְׂכִּילְךָ וְאוֹרְךָ בְּדֶרֶךְ־זוּ תֵלֵךְ אִיעֲצָה עָלֶיךָ עֵינִי׃

Askilcha ve'orcha bederech zu telech, i'atza alecha eini.

Let me enlighten you and show you which way to go; let me offer counsel; my eye is on you.

אַל־תִּהְיוּ כְּסוּס כְּפֶרֶד אֵין הָבִין בְּמֶתֶג־וָרֶסֶן עֶדְיוֹ לִבְלוֹם בַּל קְרֹב אֵלֶיךָ׃

Al tihyu kesus kepered ein havin, bemeteg varesen edyo livlom, bal kerov elecha.

Be not like a senseless horse or mule whose movement must be curbed by bit and bridle; far be it from you!

רַבִּים מַכְאוֹבִים לָרָשָׁע וְהַבּוֹטֵחַ בַּיהוָה חֶסֶד יְסוֹבְבֶנּוּ׃

Rabim mach'ovim larasha, vehabote'ach baAdonai chesed yesovevenu.

Many are the torments of the wicked, but he who trusts in the LORD shall be surrounded with favor.

שִׂמְחוּ בַיהוָה וְגִילוּ צַדִּיקִים וְהַרְנִינוּ כָּל־יִשְׁרֵי־לֵב׃

Simchu vaAdonai vegilu tzadikim, veharninu kol yishrei lev.

Rejoice in the LORD and exult, O you righteous; shout for joy, all upright men!

רַנְּנוּ צַדִּיקִים בַּיהוָה לַיְשָׁרִים נָאוָה תְהִלָּה׃

Ranenu tzadikim baAdonai, laysharim nava tehila.

Sing forth, O you righteous, to the LORD; it is fit that the upright acclaim Him.

הוֹדוּ לַיהוָה בְּכִנּוֹר בְּנֵבֶל עָשׂוֹר זַמְּרוּ־לוֹ׃

Hodu laAdonai bechinor, benevel asor zamru lo.

Praise the LORD with the lyre; with the ten-stringed harp sing to Him;

שִׁירוּ־לוֹ שִׁיר חָדָשׁ הֵיטִיבוּ נַגֵּן בִּתְרוּעָה׃

Shiru lo shir chadash, hetivu nagen bitru'a.

sing Him a new song; play sweetly with shouts of joy.

כִּי־יָשָׁר דְּבַר־יְהוָה וְכָל־מַעֲשֵׂהוּ בֶּאֱמוּנָה׃

Ki yashar devar Adonai, vechol ma'asehu be'emuna.

For the word of the LORD is right; His every deed is faithful.

אֹהֵב צְדָקָה וּמִשְׁפָּט חֶסֶד יְהוָה מָלְאָה הָאָרֶץ׃

Ohev tzedaka umishpat, chesed Adonai mal'a ha'aretz.

He loves what is right and just; the earth is full of the LORD's faithful care.

בִּדְבַר יְהוָה שָׁמַיִם נַעֲשׂוּ וּבְרוּחַ פִּיו כָּל־צְבָאָם׃

Bidvar Adonai shamayim na'asu, uveru'ach piv kol tzeva'am.

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, by the breath of His mouth, all their host.

כֹּנֵס כַּנֵּד מֵי הַיָּם נֹתֵן בְּאוֹצָרוֹת תְּהוֹמוֹת׃

Kones kaned mei hayam, noten be'otzarot tehomot.

He heaps up the ocean waters like a mound, stores the deep in vaults.

יִירְאוּ מֵיְהוָה כָּל־הָאָרֶץ מִמֶּנּוּ יָגוּרוּ כָּל־יֹשְׁבֵי תֵבֵל׃

Yir'u meAdonai kol ha'aretz, mimenu yaguru kol yoshvei tevel.

Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world dread Him.

כִּי הוּא אָמַר וַיֶּהִי הוּא־צִוָּה וַיַּעֲמֹד׃

Ki hu amar vayehi, hu tziva vaya'amod.

For He spoke, and it was; He commanded, and it endured.

יְהוָה הֵפִיר עֲצַת גּוֹיִם הֵנִיא מַחְשְׁבוֹת עַמִּים׃

Adonai hefir atzat goyim, heni machshevot amim.

The LORD frustrates the plans of nations, brings to naught the designs of peoples.

עֲצַת יְהוָה לְעוֹלָם תַּעֲמֹד מַחְשְׁבוֹת לִבּוֹ לְדֹר וָדֹר׃

Atzat Adonai le'olam ta'amod, machshevot libo ledor vador.

What the LORD plans endures forever, what He designs, for ages on end.

אַשְׁרֵי הַגּוֹי אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו הָעָם בָּחַר לְנַחֲלָה לוֹ׃

Ashrei hagoy asher Adonai Elohav, ha'am bachar lenachala lo.

Happy the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen to be His own.

מִשָּׁמַיִם הִבִּיט יְהוָה רָאָה אֶת־כָּל־בְּנֵי הָאָדָם׃

Mishamayim hibit Adonai, ra'a et kol benei ha'adam.

The LORD looks down from heaven; He sees all mankind.

מִמְּכוֹן־שִׁבְתּוֹ הִשְׁגִּיחַ אֶל כָּל־יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ׃

Mimechon shivto hishgi'ach el kol yoshvei ha'aretz.

From His dwelling-place He watches all the inhabitants of the earth—

הַיֹּצֵר יַחַד לִבָּם הַמֵּבִין אֶל־כָּל־מַעֲשֵׂיהֶם׃

Hayotzer yachad libam, hamevin el kol ma'aseihem.

He who fashions the hearts of them all, who discerns all their doings.

אֵין־הַמֶּלֶךְ נוֹשָׁע בְּרָב־חָיִל גִּבּוֹר לֹא־יִנָּצֵל בְּרָב־כֹּחַ׃

Ein hamelech nosha berav chayil, gibor lo yinatzel berav ko'ach.

Kings are not delivered by a large force; a warrior is not saved by great strength;

שֶׁקֶר הַסּוּס לִתְשׁוּעָה וּבְרֹב חֵילוֹ לֹא יְמַלֵּט׃

Sheker hasus liteshu'a, uverov cheilo lo yemalet.

a horse is a false hope for deliverance; for all its great power it provides no escape.

הִנֵּה עֵין יְהוָה אֶל־יְרֵאָיו לַמְיַחֲלִים לְחַסְדּוֹ׃

Hineh ein Adonai el yere'av, lamyachalim lechasdo.

Truly the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, who wait for His faithful care

לְהַצִּיל מִמָּוֶת נַפְשָׁם וּלְחַיּוֹתָם בָּרָעָב׃

Lehatzil mimavet nafsham, ulechayotam bara'av.

to save them from death, to sustain them in famine.

נַפְשֵׁנוּ חִכְּתָה לַיהוָה עֶזְרֵנוּ וּמָגִנֵּנוּ הוּא׃

Nafshenu chikta laAdonai, ezrenu umaginenu hu.

We set our hope on the LORD, He is our help and shield;

כִּי־בוֹ יִשְׂמַח לִבֵּנוּ כִּי בְשֵׁם קָדְשׁוֹ בָטָחְנוּ׃

Ki vo yismach libenu, ki veshem kodsho vatachnu.

in Him our hearts rejoice, for in His holy name we trust.

יְהִי־חַסְדְּךָ יְהוָה עָלֵינוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר יִחַלְנוּ לָךְ׃

Yehi chasdecha Adonai aleinu, ka'asher yichalnu lach.

May we enjoy, O LORD, Your faithful care, as we have put our hope in You.

לְדָוִד בְּשַׁנּוֹתוֹ אֶת־טַעְמוֹ לִפְנֵי אֲבִימֶלֶךְ וַיְגָרְשֵׁהוּ וַיֵּלַךְ׃

LeDavid beshanoto et ta'amo lifnei Avimelech vayegarshehu vayelach.

Of David, when he feigned madness in the presence of Abimelech, who turned him out, and he left.

אֲבָרְכָה אֶת־יְהוָה בְּכָל־עֵת תָּמִיד תְּהִלָּתוֹ בְּפִי׃

Avaracha et Adonai bechol et, tamid tehilato befi.

I bless the LORD at all times; praise of Him is ever in my mouth.

בַּיהוָה תִּתְהַלֵּל נַפְשִׁי יִשְׁמְעוּ עֲנָוִים וְיִשְׂמָחוּ׃

BaAdonai tithalel nafshi, yishme'u anavim veyismachu.

I glory in the LORD; let the lowly hear it and rejoice.

גַּדְּלוּ לַיהוָה אִתִּי וּנְרוֹמְמָה שְׁמוֹ יַחְדָּו׃

Gadlu laAdonai iti, uneromema shemo yachdav.

Exalt the LORD with me; let us extol His name together.

דָּרַשְׁתִּי אֶת־יְהוָה וְעָנָנִי וּמִכָּל־מְגוּרוֹתַי הִצִּילָנִי׃

Darashti et Adonai ve'anani, umikol megurotai hitzilani.

I turned to the LORD, and He answered me; He saved me from all my terrors.

הִבִּיטוּ אֵלָיו וְנָהָרוּ וּפְנֵיהֶם אַל־יֶחְפָּרוּ׃

Hibitu elav venaharu, ufneihem al yechparu.

Men look to Him and are radiant; let their faces not be downcast.

זֶה עָנִי קָרָא וַיהוָה שָׁמֵעַ וּמִכָּל־צָרוֹתָיו הוֹשִׁיעוֹ׃

Ze ani kara vaAdonai shame'a, umikol tzarotav hoshi'o.

Here was a lowly man who called, and the LORD listened, and delivered him from all his troubles.

חֹנֶה מַלְאַךְ־יְהוָה סָבִיב לִירֵאָיו וַיְחַלְּצֵם׃

Chone mal'ach Adonai saviv lirei'av vayechaltzem.

The angel of the LORD camps around those who fear Him and rescues them.

טַעֲמוּ וּרְאוּ כִּי־טוֹב יְהוָה אַשְׁרֵי הַגֶּבֶר יֶחֱסֶה־בּוֹ׃

Ta'amu ur'u ki tov Adonai, ashrei hagever yechese bo.

Taste and see how good the LORD is; happy the man who takes refuge in Him!

יְראוּ אֶת־יְהוָה קְדֹשָׁיו כִּי־אֵין מַחְסוֹר לִירֵאָיו׃

Yer'u et Adonai kedoshav, ki ein machsor lirei'av.

Fear the LORD, you His consecrated ones, for those who fear Him lack nothing.

כְּפִירִים רָשׁוּ וְרָעֵבוּ וְדֹרְשֵׁי יְהוָה לֹא־יַחְסְרוּ כָל־טוֹב׃

Kefirim rashu vera'evu, vedorshei Adonai lo yachseru chol tov.

Lions have been reduced to starvation, but those who turn to the LORD shall not lack any good.

לְכוּ־בָנִים שִׁמְעוּ־לִי יִרְאַת יְהוָה אֲלַמֶּדְכֶם׃

Lechu vanim shim'u li, yir'at Adonai alamedchem.

Come, my sons, listen to me; I will teach you what it is to fear the LORD.

מִי־הָאִישׁ הֶחָפֵץ חַיִּים אֹהֵב יָמִים לִרְאוֹת טוֹב׃

Mi ha'ish hechafetz chayim, ohev yamim lir'ot tov?

Who is the man who is eager for life, who desires years of good fortune?

נְצֹר לְשׁוֹנְךָ מֵרָע וּשְׂפָתֶיךָ מִדַּבֵּר מִרְמָה׃

Netzor leshoncha mera, usfatecha midaber mirma.

Guard your tongue from evil, your lips from deceitful speech.

סוּר מֵרָע וַעֲשֵׂה־טוֹב בַּקֵּשׁ שָׁלוֹם וְרָדְפֵהוּ׃

Sur mera va'aseh tov, bakesh shalom verodfehu.

Shun evil and do good, seek amity and pursue it.

עֵינֵי יְהוָה אֶל־צַדִּיקִים וְאָזְנָיו אֶל־שַׁוְעָתָם׃

Einei Adonai el tzadikim, ve'oznav el shav'atam.

The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, His ears attentive to their cry.

פְּנֵי יְהוָה בְּעֹשֵׂי רָע לְהַכְרִית מֵאֶרֶץ זִכְרָם׃

Penei Adonai be'osei ra, lehachrit me'eretz zichram.

The face of the LORD is set against evildoers, to erase their memory from the earth.

צָעֲקוּ וַיהוָה שָׁמֵעַ וּמִכָּל־צָרוֹתָם הִצִּילָם׃

Tza'aku vaAdonai shame'a, umikol tzarotam hitzilam.

They cry out, and the LORD hears, and saves them from all their troubles.

קָרוֹב יְהוָה לְנִשְׁבְּרֵי־לֵב וְאֶת־דַּכְּאֵי־רוּחַ יוֹשִׁיעַ׃

Karov Adonai lenishberei lev, ve'et dak'ei ru'ach yoshi'a.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; those crushed in spirit He delivers.

רַבּוֹת רָעוֹת צַדִּיק וּמִכֻּלָּם יַצִּילֶנּוּ יְהוָה׃

Rabot ra'ot tzadik, umikulam yatzilenu Adonai.

Though the misfortunes of the righteous be many, the LORD will save him from them all,

שֹׁמֵר כָּל־עַצְמוֹתָיו אַחַת מֵהֵנָּה לֹא נִשְׁבָּרָה׃

Shomer kol atzmotav, achat mehena lo nishbara.

keeping all his bones intact, not one of them being broken.

תְּמוֹתֵת רָשָׁע רָעָה וְשֹׂנְאֵי צַדִּיק יֶאְשָׁמוּ׃

Temotet rasha ra'a, veson'ei tzadik ye'eshamu.

Evil will kill the wicked; the foes of the righteous shall be ruined.

פֹּדֶה יְהוָה נֶפֶשׁ עֲבָדָיו וְלֹא יֶאְשְׁמוּ כָּל־הַחֹסִים בּוֹ׃

Pode Adonai nefesh avadav, velo ye'eshmu kol hachosim bo.

The LORD redeems the life of His servants; all who take refuge in Him shall not be ruined.

לְדָוִד רִיבָה יְהוָה אֶת־יְרִיבַי לְחַם אֶת־לֹחֲמָי׃

LeDavid. Riva Adonai et yerivai, lecham et lochamai.

Of David. O LORD, strive with my adversaries, give battle to my foes.

הַחֲזֵק מָגֵן וְצִנָּה וְקוּמָה בְּעֶזְרָתִי׃

Hachazek magen vetzina, vekuma be'ezrati.

Take up shield and buckler, and come to my defense;

וְהָרֵק חֲנִית וּסְגֹר לִקְרַאת רֹדְפָי אֱמֹר לְנַפְשִׁי יְשֻׁעָתֵךְ אָנִי׃

Veharek chanit usegor likrat rodfai, emor lenafshi yeshu'atech ani.

ready the spear and javelin against my pursuers; say to me, "I am your deliverance."

יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיִכָּלְמוּ מְבַקְשֵׁי נַפְשִׁי יִסֹּגוּ אָחוֹר וְיַחְפְּרוּ חֹשְׁבֵי רָעָתִי׃

Yevoshu veyikalmu mevakshei nafshi, yisogu achor veyachperu choshvei ra'ati.

Let those who seek my life be frustrated and put to shame; let those who plan to harm me fall back in disgrace.

יִהְיוּ כְּמֹץ לִפְנֵי־רוּחַ וּמַלְאַךְ יְהוָה דּוֹחֶה׃

Yihyu kemots lifnei ru'ach, umal'ach Adonai doche.

Let them be as chaff in the wind, the LORD's angel driving them on.

יְהִי־דַרְכָּם חֹשֶׁךְ וַחֲלַקְלַקּוֹת וּמַלְאַךְ יְהוָה רֹדְפָם׃

Yehi darkam choshech vachalakkalakot, umal'ach Adonai rodfam.

Let their path be dark and slippery, with the LORD's angel in pursuit.

כִּי־חִנָּם טָמְנוּ־לִי שַׁחַת רִשְׁתָּם חִנָּם חָפְרוּ לְנַפְשִׁי׃

Ki chinam tamnu li shachat rishtam, chinam chafru lenafshi.

For without cause they hid a net to trap me; without cause they dug a pit for me.

תְּבוֹאֵהוּ שׁוֹאָה לֹא־יֵדָע וְרִשְׁתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר־טָמַן תִּלְכְּדוֹ בְּשׁוֹאָה יִפָּל־בָּהּ׃

Tevo'ehu sho'a lo yeda, verishto asher taman tilkedo, besho'a yipal ba.

Let disaster overtake them unawares; let the net they hid catch them; let them fall into it when disaster strikes.

וְנַפְשִׁי תָּגִיל בַּיהוָה תָּשִׂישׂ בִּישׁוּעָתוֹ׃

Venafshi tagil baAdonai, tasis bishu'ato.

Then shall I exult in the LORD, rejoice in His deliverance.

כָּל עַצְמוֹתַי תֹּאמַרְנָה יְהוָה מִי כָמוֹךָ מַצִּיל עָנִי מֵחָזָק מִמֶּנּוּ וְעָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן מִגֹּזְלוֹ׃

Kol atzmotai tomarna Adonai mi chamocha, matzil ani mechazak mimenu, ve'ani ve'evyon migozlo.

All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like You? You save the poor from one stronger than he, the poor and needy from his despoiler."

יְקוּמוּן עֵדֵי חָמָס אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יָדַעְתִּי יִשְׁאָלוּנִי׃

Yekumun edei chamas, asher lo yadati yish'aluni.

Malicious witnesses appear who question me about things I do not know.

יְשַׁלְּמוּנִי רָעָה תַּחַת טוֹבָה שְׁכוֹל לְנַפְשִׁי׃

Yeshalumuni ra'a tachat tova, shechol lenafshi.

They repay me evil for good, [seeking] my bereavement.

וַאֲנִי בַּחֲלוֹתָם לְבוּשִׁי שָׂק עִנֵּיתִי בַצּוֹם נַפְשִׁי וּתְפִלָּתִי עַל־חֵיקִי תָשׁוּב׃

Va'ani bachalotam levushi sak, ineti vatzom nafshi, utefilati al cheiki tashuv.

Yet, when they were ill, my dress was sackcloth, I kept a fast—may what I prayed for happen to me!

כְּרֵעַ כְּאָח־לִי הִתְהַלָּכְתִּי כַּאֲבֶל־אֵם קֹדֵר שַׁחוֹתִי׃

Kere'a ke'ach li hithalachti, ka'avel em koder shachoti.

I walked about as though it were my friend or my brother; I was bowed with gloom, like one mourning for his mother.

וּבְצַלְעִי שָׂמְחוּ וְנֶאֱסָפוּ נֶאֶסְפוּ עָלַי נֵכִים וְלֹא יָדַעְתִּי קָרְעוּ וְלֹא־דָמּוּ׃

Uvetzal'i samechu vene'esafu, ne'esfu alai nechim velo yadati, kar'u velo damu.

But when I stumble, they gleefully gather; wretches gather against me, I know not why; they tear me apart without end.

בְּחַנְפֵי לַעֲגֵי מָעוֹג חָרֹק עָלַי שִׁנֵּימוֹ׃

Bechanfei la'agei ma'og, charok alai shinemo.

With impious, mocking grimace they gnash their teeth at me.

אֲדֹנָי כַּמָּה תִּרְאֶה הָשִׁיבָה נַפְשִׁי מִשֹּׁאֵיהֶם מִכְּפִירִים יְחִידָתִי׃

Adonai kama tir'eh, hashiva nafshi misho'eihem, mikefirim yechidati.

O LORD, how long will You look on? Rescue me from their ravages, my precious life from the lions,

אוֹדְךָ בְּקָהָל רָב בְּעַם עָצוּם אֲהַלְלֶךָּ׃

Odecha bekahal rav, be'am atzum ahaleleka.

that I may praise You in a great congregation, acclaim You in a mighty throng.

אַל־יִשְׂמְחוּ־לִי אֹיְבַי שֶׁקֶר שֹׂנְאַי חִנָּם יִקְרְצוּ־עָיִן׃

Al yismechu li oyvai sheker, son'ai chinam yikretzu ayin.

Let not my treacherous enemies rejoice over me, or those who hate me without reason wink their eyes.

כִּי לֹא שָׁלוֹם יְדַבֵּרוּ וְעַל רִגְעֵי־אֶרֶץ דִּבְרֵי מִרְמוֹת יַחֲשֹׁבוּן׃

Ki lo shalom yedaberu, ve'al rig'ei eretz divrei mirmot yachshavun.

For they do not offer friendship, but devise fraudulent schemes against the peaceful in the land.

וַיַּרְחִיבוּ עָלַי פִּיהֶם אָמְרוּ הֶאָח הֶאָח רָאֲתָה עֵינֵינוּ׃

Vayarchivu alai pihem, amru he'ach he'ach ra'ata eineinu.

They open wide their mouth at me, saying, "Aha, aha, we have seen it!"

רָאִיתָה יְהוָה אַל־תֶּחֱרַשׁ אֲדֹנָי אַל־תִּרְחַק מִמֶּנִּי׃

Ra'ita Adonai al techerash, Adonai al tirchak mimeni.

You have seen it, O LORD; do not be silent; O Lord, be not far from me.

הָעִירָה וְהָקִיצָה לְמִשְׁפָּטִי אֱלֹהַי וַאדֹנָי לְרִיבִי׃

Ha'ira vehakitza lemishpati, Elohai vaAdonai lerivi.

Wake, rouse Yourself for my cause, for my claim, O my God and my LORD!

שָׁפְטֵנִי כְצִדְקְךָ יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי וְאַל־יִשְׂמְחוּ־לִי׃

Shofteni chetzidkecha Adonai Elohai, ve'al yismechu li.

Vindicate me, O LORD, my God, as befits Your righteousness; let them not rejoice over me.

אַל־יֹאמְרוּ בְלִבָּם הֶאָח נַפְשֵׁנוּ אַל־יֹאמְרוּ בִּלַּעֲנוּהוּ׃

Al yomru velibam he'ach nafsheinu, al yomru bila'anuhu.

Let them not say to themselves, "Aha, just what we wished!" Let them not say, "We have destroyed him!"

יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיַחְפְּרוּ יַחְדָּו שְׂמֵחֵי רָעָתִי יִלְבְּשׁוּ־בֹשֶׁת וּכְלִמָּה הַמַּגְדִּילִים עָלָי׃

Yevoshu veyachperu yachdav semechei ra'ati, yilbeshu voshet uchlima hamagdilim alai.

Let all who rejoice at my misfortune be frustrated and disgraced; let those who vaunt themselves over me be clad in frustration and shame.

יָרֹנּוּ וְיִשְׂמְחוּ חֲפֵצֵי צִדְקִי וְיֹאמְרוּ תָמִיד יִגְדַּל יְהוָה הֶחָפֵץ שְׁלוֹם עַבְדּוֹ׃

Yaronu veyismechu chafetzei tzidki, veyomru tamid yigdal Adonai hechafetz shelom avdo.

May those who desire my vindication sing forth joyously; let them say always, "Extolled be the LORD who is concerned about the welfare of His servant."

וּלְשׁוֹנִי תֶּהְגֶּה צִדְקֶךָ כָּל־הַיּוֹם תְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃

Ulshoni tehge tzidkecha, kol hayom tehilatecha.

Then my tongue shall declare Your beneficence, Your praises all day long.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְעֶבֶד־יְהוָה לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach le'eved Adonai leDavid.

For the leader. Of the servant of the LORD, of David.

נְאֻם־פֶּשַׁע לָרָשָׁע בְּקֶרֶב לִבִּי אֵין־פַּחַד אֱלֹהִים לְנֶגֶד עֵינָיו׃

Ne'um pesha larasha bekerev libi, ein pachad Elohim leneged einav.

I know what Transgression says to the wicked; he has no sense of the dread of God,

כִּי־הֶחֱלִיק אֵלָיו בְּעֵינָיו לִמְצֹא עֲוֺנוֹ לִשְׂנֹא׃

Ki hechelik elav be'einav, limtzo avono lisno.

because its speech is seductive to him till his iniquity be found out and he be hated.

דִּבְרֵי־פִיו אָוֶן וּמִרְמָה חָדַל לְהַשְׂכִּיל לְהֵיטִיב׃

Divrei fiv aven umirma, chadal lehaskil leheitiv.

His speech is evil and deceitful; he will not consider doing good.

אָוֶן יַחְשֹׁב עַל־מִשְׁכָּבוֹ יִתְיַצֵּב עַל־דֶּרֶךְ לֹא־טוֹב רָע לֹא יִמְאָס׃

Aven yachshov al mishkavo, yityatzev al derech lo tov, ra lo yim'as.

In bed he plots mischief; he is set on a path of no good, he does not reject evil.

יְהוָה בְּהַשָּׁמַיִם חַסְדֶּךָ אֱמוּנָתְךָ עַד־שְׁחָקִים׃

Adonai behashamayim chasdecha, emunatcha ad shechakim.

O LORD, Your faithfulness reaches to heaven; Your steadfastness to the sky;

צִדְקָתְךָ כְּהַרְרֵי־אֵל מִשְׁפָּטֶךָ תְּהוֹם רַבָּה אָדָם וּבְהֵמָה תוֹשִׁיעַ יְהוָה׃

Tzidkatcha keharerei El, mishpatecha tehom raba, adam uvehema toshi'a Adonai.

Your beneficence is like the high mountains; Your justice like the great deep; man and beast You deliver, O LORD.

מַה־יָּקָר חַסְדְּךָ אֱלֹהִים וּבְנֵי אָדָם בְּצֵל כְּנָפֶיךָ יֶחֱסָיוּן׃

Ma yakar chasdecha Elohim, uvnei adam betzel kenafecha yechesayun.

How precious is Your faithful care, O God! Mankind shelters in the shadow of Your wings.

יִרְוְיֻן מִדֶּשֶׁן בֵּיתֶךָ וְנַחַל עֲדָנֶיךָ תַשְׁקֵם׃

Yirveyun mideshen beitecha, venachal adanecha tashkem.

They feast on the rich fare of Your house; You let them drink at Your refreshing stream.

כִּי־עִמְּךָ מְקוֹר חַיִּים בְּאוֹרְךָ נִרְאֶה־אוֹר׃

Ki imcha mekor chayim, be'orcha nir'eh or.

With You is the fountain of life; by Your light do we see light.

מְשֹׁךְ חַסְדְּךָ לְיֹדְעֶיךָ וְצִדְקָתְךָ לְיִשְׁרֵי־לֵב׃

Meshoch chasdecha leyod'echa, vetzidkatcha leyishrei lev.

Bestow Your faithful care on those devoted to You, and Your beneficence on the upright.

אַל־תְּבוֹאֵנִי רֶגֶל גַּאֲוָה וְיַד־רְשָׁעִים אַל־תְּנִדֵנִי׃

Al tevo'eni regel ga'ava, veyad resha'im al tenideni.

Let not the foot of the arrogant tread on me, or the hand of the wicked drive me away.

שָׁם נָפְלוּ פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן דֹּחוּ וְלֹא־יָכְלוּ קוּם׃

Sham naflu po'alei aven, dochu velo yachlu kum.

There lie the evildoers, fallen, thrust down, unable to rise.

לְדָוִד אַל־תִּתְחַר בַּמְּרֵעִים אַל־תְּקַנֵּא בְּעֹשֵׂי עַוְלָה׃

LeDavid. Al titchar bamre'im, al tekane be'osei avla.

Of David. Do not be vexed by evil men; do not be incensed by wrongdoers;

כִּי כֶחָצִיר מְהֵרָה יִמָּלוּ וּכְיֶרֶק דֶּשֶׁא יִבּוֹלוּן׃

Ki chechatzir mehera yimalu, uchyerek deshe yibolun.

for they soon wither like grass, like verdure fade away.

בְּטַח בַּיהוָה וַעֲשֵׂה־טוֹב שְׁכָן־אֶרֶץ וּרְעֵה אֱמוּנָה׃

Betach baAdonai va'aseh tov, shechon eretz ur'eh emuna.

Trust in the LORD and do good, abide in the land and remain loyal.

וְהִתְעַנַּג עַל־יְהוָה וְיִתֶּן־לְךָ מִשְׁאֲלֹת לִבֶּךָ׃

Vehit'anag al Adonai, veyiten lecha mish'alot libecha.

Seek the favor of the LORD, and He will grant you the desires of your heart.

גּוֹל עַל־יְהוָה דַּרְכֶּךָ וּבְטַח עָלָיו וְהוּא יַעֲשֶׂה׃

Gol al Adonai darkecha, uvetach alav vehu ya'aseh.

Leave all to the LORD; trust in Him; He will do it.

וְהוֹצִיא כָאוֹר צִדְקֶךָ וּמִשְׁפָּטֶךָ כַּצָּהֳרָיִם׃

Vehotzi cha'or tzidkecha, umishpatecha katzahorayim.

He will cause your vindication to shine forth like the light, the justice of your case, like the noonday sun.

דּוֹם לַיהוָה וְהִתְחוֹלֵל לוֹ אַל־תִּתְחַר בְּמַצְלִיחַ דַּרְכּוֹ בְּאִישׁ עֹשֶׂה מְזִמּוֹת׃

Dom laAdonai vehitcholel lo, al titchar bematzli'ach darko, be'ish oseh mezimot.

Be patient and wait for the LORD, do not be vexed by the prospering man who carries out his schemes.

הֶרֶף מֵאַף וַעֲזֹב חֵמָה אַל־תִּתְחַר אַךְ־לְהָרֵעַ׃

Heref me'af va'azov chema, al titchar ach lehare'a.

Give up anger, abandon fury, do not be vexed; it can only do harm.

כִּי־מְרֵעִים יִכָּרֵתוּן וְקֹוֵי יְהוָה הֵמָּה יִירְשׁוּ־אָרֶץ׃

Ki mere'im yikaretun, vekovei Adonai hema yirshu aretz.

For evil men will be cut off, but those who look to the LORD—they shall inherit the land.

וְעוֹד מְעַט וְאֵין רָשָׁע וְהִתְבּוֹנַנְתָּ עַל־מְקוֹמוֹ וְאֵינֶנּוּ׃

Ve'od me'at ve'ein rasha, vehitbonanta al mekomo ve'einenu.

A little longer and there will be no wicked man; you will look at where he was—he will be gone.

וַעֲנָוִים יִירְשׁוּ־אָרֶץ וְהִתְעַנְּגוּ עַל־רֹב שָׁלוֹם׃

Va'anavim yirshu aretz, vehit'angu al rov shalom.

But the lowly shall inherit the land, and delight in abundant well-being.

זֹמֵם רָשָׁע לַצַּדִּיק וְחֹרֵק עָלָיו שִׁנָּיו׃

Zomem rasha latzadik, vechorek alav shinav.

The wicked man schemes against the righteous, and gnashes his teeth at him.

אֲדֹנָי יִשְׂחַק־לוֹ כִּי־רָאָה כִּי־יָבֹא יוֹמוֹ׃

Adonai yischak lo, ki ra'a ki yavo yomo.

The LORD laughs at him, for He knows that his day will come.

חֶרֶב פָּתְחוּ רְשָׁעִים וְדָרְכוּ קַשְׁתָּם לְהַפִּיל עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן לִטְבוֹחַ יִשְׁרֵי־דָרֶךְ׃

Cherev patchu resha'im vedarchu kashtam, lehapil ani ve'evyon, litvo'ach yishrei darech.

The wicked draw their swords, bend their bows, to bring down the lowly and needy, to slaughter upright men.

חַרְבָּם תָּבוֹא בְלִבָּם וְקַשְּׁתוֹתָם תִּשָּׁבַרְנָה׃

Charbam tavo velibam, vekashtotam tishavarna.

Their swords shall pierce their own hearts, and their bows shall be broken.

טוֹב־מְעַט לַצַּדִּיק מֵהֲמוֹן רְשָׁעִים רַבִּים׃

Tov me'at latzadik mehamon resha'im rabim.

Better the little that the righteous man has than the great abundance of the wicked.

כִּי זְרוֹעוֹת רְשָׁעִים תִּשָּׁבַרְנָה וְסוֹמֵךְ צַדִּיקִים יְהוָה׃

Ki zero'ot resha'im tishavarna, vesomech tzadikim Adonai.

For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the LORD is the support of the righteous.

יוֹדֵעַ יְהוָה יְמֵי תְמִימִם וְנַחֲלָתָם לְעוֹלָם תִּהְיֶה׃

Yode'a Adonai yemei temimim, venachalatam le'olam tihye.

The LORD is concerned for the needs of the blameless; their portion lasts forever.

לֹא־יֵבֹשׁוּ בְּעֵת רָעָה וּבִימֵי רְעָבוֹן יִשְׂבָּעוּ׃

Lo yevoshu be'et ra'a, uvimei re'avon yisba'u.

They shall not be put to shame in evil times; in famine, they shall eat their fill.

כִּי רְשָׁעִים יֹאבֵדוּ וְאֹיְבֵי יְהוָה כִּיקַר כָּרִים כָּלוּ בֶעָשָׁן כָּלוּ׃

Ki resha'im yovedu, ve'oyvei Adonai kikar karim, kalu ve'ashan kalu.

But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD are like meadow grass, vanishing, disappearing like smoke.

לֹוֶה רָשָׁע וְלֹא יְשַׁלֵּם וְצַדִּיק חוֹנֵן וְנוֹתֵן׃

Loveh rasha velo yeshalem, vetzadik chonen venoten.

The wicked man borrows and does not repay; the righteous is generous and keeps giving.

כִּי מְבֹרָכָיו יִירְשׁוּ אָרֶץ וּמְקֻלָּלָיו יִכָּרֵתוּ׃

Ki mevorachav yirshu aretz, umkulalav yikaretu.

Those blessed by Him shall inherit the land, but those cursed by Him shall be cut off.

מֵיְהוָה מִצְעֲדֵי־גֶבֶר כּוֹנָנוּ וְדַרְכּוֹ יֶחְפָּץ׃

MeAdonai mitz'adei gever konanu, vedarko yechpatz.

The LORD makes firm the steps of one whose way He has chosen.

כִּי־יִפֹּל לֹא־יוּטָל כִּי־יְהוָה סוֹמֵךְ יָדוֹ׃

Ki yipol lo yutal, ki Adonai somech yado.

Though he stumbles, he does not fall down, for the LORD gives him support.

נַעַר הָיִיתִי גַּם־זָקַנְתִּי וְלֹא־רָאִיתִי צַדִּיק נֶעֱזָב וְזַרְעוֹ מְבַקֶּשׁ־לָחֶם׃

Na'ar hayiti gam zakanti, velo ra'iti tzadik ne'ezav, vezar'o mevakesh lachem.

I have been young and am now old, but I have never seen a righteous man abandoned, or his children seeking bread.

כָּל־הַיּוֹם חוֹנֵן וּמַלְוֶה וְזַרְעוֹ לִבְרָכָה׃

Kol hayom chonen umalve, vezar'o livracha.

He is always generous, and lends, and his children are a blessing.

סוּר מֵרָע וַעֲשֵׂה־טוֹב וּשְׁכֹן לְעוֹלָם׃

Sur mera va'aseh tov, ushchon le'olam.

Shun evil and do good, and you shall abide forever.

כִּי יְהוָה אֹהֵב מִשְׁפָּט וְלֹא־יַעֲזֹב אֶת־חֲסִידָיו לְעוֹלָם נִשְׁמָרוּ וְזֶרַע רְשָׁעִים נִכְרָת׃

Ki Adonai ohev mishpat, velo ya'azov et chasidav, le'olam nishmaru, vezera resha'im nichrat.

For the LORD loves what is right, He does not abandon His faithful ones. They are preserved forever, while the children of the wicked will be cut off.

צַדִּיקִים יִירְשׁוּ־אָרֶץ וְיִשְׁכְּנוּ לָעַד עָלֶיהָ׃

Tzadikim yirshu aretz, veyishkenu la'ad aleha.

The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell in it forever.

פִּי־צַדִּיק יֶהְגֶּה חָכְמָה וּלְשׁוֹנוֹ תְּדַבֵּר מִשְׁפָּט׃

Pi tzadik yehge chochma, ulshono tedaber mishpat.

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is right.

תּוֹרַת אֱלֹהָיו בְּלִבּוֹ לֹא תִמְעַד אֲשֻׁרָיו׃

Torat Elohav belibo, lo tim'ad ashurav.

The teaching of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip.

צוֹפֶה רָשָׁע לַצַּדִּיק וּמְבַקֵּשׁ לַהֲמִיתוֹ׃

Tzofe rasha latzadik, umevakesh lahamito.

The wicked watches for the righteous, seeking to put him to death;

יְהוָה לֹא־יַעַזְבֶנּוּ בְיָדוֹ וְלֹא יַרְשִׁיעֶנּוּ בְּהִשָּׁפְטוֹ׃

Adonai lo ya'azvenu veyado, velo yarshi'enu behishafto.

but the LORD will not abandon him to his power; He will not let him be condemned in judgment.

קַוֵּה אֶל־יְהוָה וּשְׁמֹר דַּרְכּוֹ וִירוֹמִמְךָ לָרֶשֶׁת אָרֶץ בְּהִכָּרֵת רְשָׁעִים תִּרְאֶה׃

Kaveh el Adonai ushmor darko, viromimcha lareshet aretz, behikaret resha'im tir'eh.

Look to the LORD and keep to His way, and He will raise you high that you may inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

רָאִיתִי רָשָׁע עָרִיץ וּמִתְעָרֶה כְּאֶזְרָח רַעֲנָן׃

Ra'iti rasha aritz, umit'areh ke'ezrach ra'anan.

I saw a wicked man, powerful, firmly rooted like a flourishing native tree.

וַיַּעֲבֹר וְהִנֵּה אֵינֶנּוּ וָאֲבַקְשֵׁהוּ וְלֹא נִמְצָא׃

Vaya'avor vehineh einenu, va'avakshehu velo nimtza.

Suddenly he vanished and was gone; I sought him, but he was not to be found.

שְׁמָר־תָּם וּרְאֵה יָשָׁר כִּי־אַחֲרִית לְאִישׁ שָׁלוֹם׃

Shemor tam ur'eh yashar, ki acharit le'ish shalom.

Mark the blameless, note the upright, for there is a future for the man of integrity.

וּפֹשְׁעִים נִשְׁמְדוּ יַחְדָּו אַחֲרִית רְשָׁעִים נִכְרָתָה׃

Ufosh'im nishmadu yachdav, acharit resha'im nichrata.

But transgressors shall be utterly destroyed; the future of the wicked shall be cut off.

וּתְשׁוּעַת צַדִּיקִים מֵיְהוָה מָעוּזָּם בְּעֵת צָרָה׃

Uteshu'at tzadikim meAdonai, ma'uzam be'et tzara.

The deliverance of the righteous comes from the LORD, their stronghold in time of trouble.

וַיַּעְזְרֵם יְהוָה וַיְפַלְּטֵם יְפַלְּטֵם מֵרְשָׁעִים וְיוֹשִׁיעֵם כִּי־חָסוּ בוֹ׃

Vaya'azrem Adonai vayfaltem, yefaltem meresha'im veyoshi'em ki chasu vo.

The LORD helps them and rescues them; He rescues them from the wicked and delivers them, for they seek refuge in Him.

מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד לְהַזְכִּיר׃

יְהוָה אַל־בְּקֶצְפְּךָ תוֹכִיחֵנִי וּבַחֲמָתְךָ תְיַסְּרֵנִי׃

Adonai al beketzpecha tochicheni, uvachamatcha teyasreni.

O LORD, do not punish me in wrath; do not chastise me in fury.

כִּי־חִצֶּיךָ נִחֲתוּ בִי וַתִּנְחַת עָלַי יָדֶךָ׃

Ki chitzecha nichatu vi, vatinchat alai yadecha.

For Your arrows have struck me; Your hand has come down upon me.

אֵין־מְתֹם בִּבְשָׂרִי מִפְּנֵי זַעְמֶךָ אֵין־שָׁלוֹם בַּעֲצָמַי מִפְּנֵי חַטָּאתִי׃

Ein metom bivsari mipnei za'amecha, ein shalom ba'atzamai mipnei chatati.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your rage, no wholeness in my bones because of my sin.

כִּי עֲוֺנֹתַי עָבְרוּ רֹאשִׁי כְּמַשָּׂא כָבֵד יִכְבְּדוּ מִמֶּנִּי׃

Ki avonotai avru roshi, kemasa kaved yichbedu mimeni.

For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are like a heavy burden, more than I can bear.

הִבְאִישׁוּ נָמַקּוּ חַבּוּרֹתָי מִפְּנֵי אִוַּלְתִּי׃

Hiv'ishu namaku chaburotai, mipnei ivalti.

My wounds stink and fester because of my folly.

נַעֲוֵיתִי שַׁחֹתִי עַד־מְאֹד כָּל־הַיּוֹם קֹדֵר הִלָּכְתִּי׃

Na'aveiti shachoti ad me'od, kol hayom koder hilachti.

I am all bent and bowed; I walk about in gloom all day long.

כִּי־כְסָלַי מָלְאוּ נִקְלֶה וְאֵין מְתֹם בִּבְשָׂרִי׃

Ki chesalai mal'u nikle, ve'ein metom bivsari.

For my loins are filled with burning; there is no soundness in my flesh.

נְפוּגוֹתִי וְנִדְכֵּיתִי עַד־מְאֹד שָׁאַגְתִּי מִנַּהֲמַת לִבִּי׃

Nefugoti venidkeiti ad me'od, sha'agti minahamat libi.

I am all benumbed and crushed; I roar because of the groaning of my heart.

אֲדֹנָי נֶגְדְּךָ כָל־תַּאֲוָתִי וְאַנְחָתִי מִמְּךָ לֹא־נִסְתָּרָה׃

Adonai negdecha kol ta'avati, ve'anchati mimcha lo nistara.

O Lord, You are aware of all my longings; my sighing is not hidden from You.

לִבִּי סְחַרְחַר עֲזָבַנִי כֹחִי וְאוֹר־עֵינַי גַּם־הֵם אֵין אִתִּי׃

Libi secharchar, azavani chochi, ve'or einai gam hem ein iti.

My heart reels, my strength fails me; the light of my eyes, too, is gone from me.

אֹהֲבַי וְרֵעַי מִנֶּגֶד נִגְעִי יַעֲמֹדוּ וּקְרוֹבַי מֵרָחֹק עָמָדוּ׃

Ohavai vere'ai mineged nig'i ya'amodu, ukrovai merachok amadu.

My friends and companions stand back from my affliction; my kinsmen stand far off.

וַיְנַקְשׁוּ מְבַקְשֵׁי נַפְשִׁי וְדֹרְשֵׁי רָעָתִי דִּבְּרוּ הַוּוֹת וּמִרְמוֹת כָּל־הַיּוֹם יֶהְגּוּ׃

Vaynakshu mevakshei nafshi, vedorshei ra'ati dibru havot, umirmot kol hayom yehgu.

Those who seek my life lay traps; those who wish me harm speak malice; they utter deceit all the time.

וַאֲנִי כְחֵרֵשׁ לֹא אֶשְׁמָע וּכְאִלֵּם לֹא יִפְתַּח־פִּיו׃

Va'ani kecheresh lo eshma, uche'ilem lo yiftach piv.

But I am like a deaf man, unhearing, like a dumb man who cannot speak up;

וָאֱהִי כְּאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא־שֹׁמֵעַ וְאֵין בְּפִיו תּוֹכָחוֹת׃

Va'ehi ke'ish asher lo shome'a, ve'ein befiv tochachot.

I am like one who does not hear, who has no retort on his lips.

כִּי־לְךָ יְהוָה הוֹחָלְתִּי אַתָּה תַעֲנֶה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהָי׃

Ki lecha Adonai hochalti, ata ta'aneh Adonai Elohai.

For I wait for You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord, my God.

כִּי־אָמַרְתִּי פֶּן־יִשְׂמְחוּ־לִי בְּמוֹט רַגְלִי עָלַי הִגְדִּילוּ׃

Ki amarti pen yismechu li, bemot ragli alai higdilu.

For I thought, "Let them have no occasion to rejoice over me when my foot gives way and they vaunt themselves over me."

כִּי־אֲנִי לְצֶלַע נָכוֹן וּמַכְאוֹבִי נֶגְדִּי תָמִיד׃

Ki ani letzela nachon, umach'ovi negdi tamid.

For I am on the verge of collapse; my pain is always with me.

כִּי־עֲוֺנִי אַגִּיד אֶדְאַג מֵחַטָּאתִי׃

Ki avoni agid, ed'ag mechatati.

I acknowledge my iniquity; I am fearful over my sin;

וְאֹיְבַי חַיִּים עָצֵמוּ וְרַבּוּ שֹׂנְאַי שָׁקֶר׃

Ve'oyvai chayim atzemu, verabu son'ai shaker.

for my mortal enemies are numerous; my treacherous foes are many.

וּמְשַׁלְּמֵי רָעָה תַּחַת טוֹבָה יִשְׂטְנוּנִי תַּחַת רדופי־ [רָדְפִי־] טוֹב׃

Umeshalumei ra'a tachat tova yistenuni, tachat rodfi tov.

Those who repay evil for good harass me for pursuing good.

אַל־תַּעַזְבֵנִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהַי אַל־תִּרְחַק מִמֶּנִּי׃

Al ta'azveni Adonai Elohai, al tirchak mimeni.

Do not abandon me, O LORD; my God, be not far from me;

חוּשָׁה לְעֶזְרָתִי אֲדֹנָי תְּשׁוּעָתִי׃

Chusha le'ezrati Adonai teshu'ati.

hasten to my aid, O Lord, my deliverance.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לִידוּתוּן מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach liYdutun, mizmor leDavid.

אָמַרְתִּי אֶשְׁמְרָה דְרָכַי מֵחֲטוֹא בִלְשׁוֹנִי אֶשְׁמְרָה לְפִי מַחְסוֹם בְּעֹד רָשָׁע לְנֶגְדִּי׃

Amarti eshmera derachai mechato vilshoni, eshmera lefi machsom be'od rasha lenegdi.

I resolved I would watch my step lest I offend by my speech; I would keep my mouth muzzled while the wicked man was in my presence.

נֶאֱלַמְתִּי דוּמִיָּה הֶחֱשֵׁיתִי מִטּוֹב וּכְאֵבִי נֶעְכָּר׃

Ne'elamti dumiya, hechesheiti mitov, uch'evi ne'ekar.

I was dumb, silent; I was very still while my pain was intense.

חַם־לִבִּי בְּקִרְבִּי בַּהֲגִיגִי תִבְעַר־אֵשׁ דִּבַּרְתִּי בִּלְשׁוֹנִי׃

Cham libi vekirbi, bahagigi tiv'ar esh, dibarti vilshoni.

My heart was hot within me; when I thought about it, fire burned; so I spoke with my tongue:

הוֹדִיעֵנִי יְהוָה קִצִּי וּמִדַּת יָמַי מַה־הִיא אֵדְעָה מֶה־חָדֵל אָנִי׃

Hodi'eni Adonai kitzi, umidat yamai ma hi, ed'a meh chadel ani.

Tell me, O LORD, what my term is, what is the measure of my days; I would know how fleeting my life is.

הִנֵּה טְפָחוֹת נָתַתָּה יָמַי וְחֶלְדִּי כְאַיִן נֶגְדֶּךָ אַךְ כָּל־הֶבֶל כָּל־אָדָם נִצָּב סֶלָה׃

Hineh tefachot natata yamai, vecheldi che'ayin negdecha, ach kol hevel kol adam nitzav, sela.

You have made my life but a handbreadth; my span is as nothing in Your sight; no man endures any longer than a breath. Selah.

אַךְ־בְּצֶלֶם יִתְהַלֶּךְ־אִישׁ אַךְ־הֶבֶל יֶהֱמָיוּן יִצְבֹּר וְלֹא־יֵדַע מִי־אֹסְפָם׃

Ach betzelem yithalech ish, ach hevel yehemayun, yitzpor velo yeda mi osfam.

Man walks about as a mere shadow; mere futility is his hustle and bustle, amassing and not knowing who will gather in.

וְעַתָּה מַה־קִּוִּיתִי אֲדֹנָי תּוֹחַלְתִּי לְךָ הִיא׃

Ve'ata ma kiviti Adonai, tochalti lecha hi.

What, then, can I count on, O Lord? In You my hope lies.

מִכָּל־פְּשָׁעַי הַצִּילֵנִי חֶרְפַּת נָבָל אַל־תְּשִׂימֵנִי׃

Mikol pesha'ai hatzileni, cherpat naval al tesimeni.

Deliver me from all my transgressions; make me not the butt of the benighted.

נֶאֱלַמְתִּי לֹא אֶפְתַּח־פִּי כִּי אַתָּה עָשִׂיתָ׃

Ne'elamti lo eftach pi, ki ata asita.

I am dumb, I do not speak up, for it is Your doing.

הָסֵר מֵעָלַי נִגְעֶךָ מִתִּגְרַת יָדְךָ אֲנִי כָלִיתִי׃

Haser me'alai nig'echa, mitigrat yadcha ani chaliti.

Take away Your plague from me; I perish from the blow of Your hand.

בְּתוֹכָחוֹת עַל־עָוֺן יִסַּרְתָּ אִישׁ וַתֶּמֶס כָּעָשׁ חֲמוּדוֹ אַךְ הֶבֶל כָּל־אָדָם סֶלָה׃

Betochachot al avon yisarta ish, vatemes ka'ash chamudo, ach hevel kol adam, sela.

You chastise a man in punishment for his sin, consuming like a moth what he treasures. No man is more than a breath. Selah.

שִׁמְעָה־תְפִלָּתִי יְהוָה וְשַׁוְעָתִי הַאֲזִינָה אֶל־דִּמְעָתִי אַל־תֶּחֱרַשׁ כִּי גֵר אָנֹכִי עִמָּךְ תּוֹשָׁב כְּכָל־אֲבוֹתָי׃

Shim'a tefilati Adonai veshav'ati ha'azina, el dim'ati al techerash, ki ger anochi imach, toshav kechol avotai.

Hear my prayer, O LORD; give ear to my cry; do not disregard my tears; for like all my forebears I am an alien, resident with You.

הָשַׁע מִמֶּנִּי וְאַבְלִיגָה בְּטֶרֶם אֵלֵךְ וְאֵינֶנִּי׃

Hasha mimeni ve'avliga, beterem elech ve'eineni.

Look away from me, that I may recover, before I pass away and am gone.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד מִזְמוֹר׃

קַוֺּה קִוִּיתִי יְהוָה וַיֵּט אֵלַי וַיִּשְׁמַע שַׁוְעָתִי׃

Kavo kiviti Adonai, vayet elai vayishma shav'ati.

I put my hope in the LORD; He inclined toward me, and heeded my cry.

וַיַּעֲלֵנִי מִבּוֹר שָׁאוֹן מִטִּיט הַיָּוֵן וַיָּקֶם עַל־סֶלַע רַגְלַי כּוֹנֵן אֲשֻׁרָי׃

Vaya'aleni mibor sha'on, mitit hayaven, vayakem al sela raglai, konen ashurai.

He lifted me out of the miry pit, the slimy clay, and set my feet on a rock, steadied my legs.

וַיִּתֵּן בְּפִי שִׁיר חָדָשׁ תְּהִלָּה לֵאלֹהֵינוּ יִרְאוּ רַבִּים וְיִירָאוּ וְיִבְטְחוּ בַּיהוָה׃

Vayiten befi shir chadash, tehila lEloheinu, yir'u rabim veyira'u, veyivtechu baAdonai.

He put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God. May many see it and stand in awe, and trust in the LORD.

אַשְׁרֵי הַגֶּבֶר אֲשֶׁר־שָׂם יְהוָה מִבְטַחוֹ וְלֹא־פָנָה אֶל־רְהָבִים וְשָׂטֵי כָזָב׃

Ashrei hagever asher sam Adonai mivtacho, velo fana el rehavim vesatei chazav.

Happy is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who turns not to the arrogant or to followers of falsehood.

רַבּוֹת עָשִׂיתָ אַתָּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהַי נִפְלְאֹתֶיךָ וּמַחְשְׁבֹתֶיךָ אֵלֵינוּ אֵין עֲרֹךְ אֵלֶיךָ אַגִּידָה וַאֲדַבֵּרָה עָצְמוּ מִסַּפֵּר׃

Rabot asita ata Adonai Elohai, nifl'otecha umachshevotecha eleinu, ein aroch elecha, agida va'adabera, atzmu misaper.

You, O LORD my God, have done many things—the wonders You have devised for us; none can equal You; I would rehearse the tale of them, but they are more than can be told.

זֶבַח וּמִנְחָה לֹא־חָפַצְתָּ אָזְנַיִם כָּרִיתָ לִּי עוֹלָה וַחֲטָאָה לֹא שָׁאָלְתָּ׃

Zevach umincha lo chafatzta, oznayim karita li, ola vachata'a lo sha'alta.

You gave me to understand that You do not desire sacrifice and meal offering; You do not ask for burnt offering and sin offering.

אָז אָמַרְתִּי הִנֵּה־בָאתִי בִּמְגִלַּת־סֵפֶר כָּתוּב עָלָי׃

Az amarti hineh va'ati, bimgilat sefer katuv alai.

Then I said, "See, I will bring a scroll recounting what befell me."

לַעֲשׂוֹת־רְצוֹנְךָ אֱלֹהַי חָפָצְתִּי וְתוֹרָתְךָ בְּתוֹךְ מֵעָי׃

La'asot retzoncha Elohai chafatzti, vetoratcha betoch me'ai.

To do what pleases You, my God, is my desire; Your teaching is in my inmost parts.

בִּשַּׂרְתִּי צֶדֶק בְּקָהָל רָב הִנֵּה שְׂפָתַי לֹא אֶכְלָא יְהוָה אַתָּה יָדָעְתָּ׃

Bisarti tzedek bekahal rav, hineh sefatai lo echla, Adonai ata yada'ta.

I proclaimed [Your] righteousness in a great congregation; see, I did not withhold my words; O LORD, You know it.

צִדְקָתְךָ לֹא־כִסִּיתִי בְּתוֹךְ לִבִּי אֱמוּנָתְךָ וּתְשׁוּעָתְךָ אָמָרְתִּי לֹא־כִחַדְתִּי חַסְדְּךָ וַאֲמִתְּךָ לְקָהָל רָב׃

Tzidkatcha lo chisiti betoch libi, emunatcha uteshu'atcha amarti, lo chichadti chasdecha va'amitcha lekahal rav.

I did not keep Your beneficence to myself; I declared Your faithful deliverance; I did not fail to speak of Your steadfast love and faithfulness in a great congregation.

אַתָּה יְהוָה לֹא־תִכְלָא רַחֲמֶיךָ מִמֶּנִּי חַסְדְּךָ וַאֲמִתְּךָ תָּמִיד יִצְּרוּנִי׃

Ata Adonai lo tichla rachamecha mimeni, chasdecha va'amitcha tamid yitzruni.

O LORD, You will not withhold from me Your compassion; Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness will protect me always.

כִּי אָפְפוּ־עָלַי רָעוֹת עַד־אֵין מִסְפָּר הִשִּׂיגוּנִי עֲוֺנֹתַי וְלֹא־יָכֹלְתִּי לִרְאוֹת עָצְמוּ מִשַּׂעֲרוֹת רֹאשִׁי וְלִבִּי עֲזָבָנִי׃

Ki afefu alai ra'ot ad ein mispar, hisiguni avonotai velo yacholti lir'ot, atzmu misa'arot roshi, velibi azavani.

For misfortunes without number envelop me; my iniquities have caught up with me; I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; I am at my wits' end.

רְצֵה יְהוָה לְהַצִּילֵנִי יְהוָה לְעֶזְרָתִי חוּשָׁה׃

Retzeh Adonai lehatzileni, Adonai le'ezrati chusha.

O favor me, LORD, and save me; O LORD, hasten to my aid.

יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיַחְפְּרוּ יַחַד מְבַקְשֵׁי נַפְשִׁי לִסְפּוֹתָהּ יִסֹּגוּ אָחוֹר וְיִכָּלְמוּ חֲפֵצֵי רָעָתִי׃

Yevoshu veyachperu yachad mevakshei nafshi lispotah, yisogu achor veyikalmu chafetzei ra'ati.

Let those who seek to destroy my life be frustrated and disgraced; let those who wish me harm fall back in shame.

יָשֹׁמּוּ עַל־עֵקֶב בָּשְׁתָּם הָאֹמְרִים לִי הֶאָח הֶאָח׃

Yashomu al ekev boshtam ha'omrim li he'ach he'ach.

Let those who say "Aha! Aha!" over me be desolate because of their frustration.

יָשִׂישׂוּ וְיִשְׂמְחוּ בְּךָ כָּל־מְבַקְשֶׁיךָ יֹאמְרוּ תָמִיד יִגְדַּל יְהוָה אֹהֲבֵי תְּשׁוּעָתֶךָ׃

Yasisu veyismechu becha kol mevakshecha, yomru tamid yigdal Adonai ohavei teshu'atecha.

But let all who seek You be glad and rejoice in You; let those who are eager for Your deliverance always say, "Extolled be the LORD!"

וַאֲנִי עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן אֲדֹנָי יַחֲשָׁב־לִי עֶזְרָתִי וּמְפַלְטִי אַתָּה אֱלֹהַי אַל־תְּאַחַר׃

Va'ani ani ve'evyon, Adonai yachashav li, ezrati umfalti ata, Elohai al te'achar.

But I am poor and needy; may the Lord devise [deliverance] for me. You are my help and my rescuer; my God, do not delay.
