תהילים 131-140

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לְדָוִד יְהוָה לֹא־גָבַהּ לִבִּי וְלֹא־רָמוּ עֵינַי וְלֹא־הִלַּכְתִּי בִּגְדֹלוֹת וּבְנִפְלָאוֹת מִמֶּנִּי׃

Shir hama'alot leDavid, Adonai lo gavah libi velo ramu einai, velo hilachti bigdolot uvnifla'ot mimeni.

A song of ascents. Of David. LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.

אִם־לֹא שִׁוִּיתִי וְדוֹמַמְתִּי נַפְשִׁי כְּגָמֻל עֲלֵי אִמּוֹ כַּגָּמֻל עָלַי נַפְשִׁי׃

Im lo shiviti vedomamti nafshi, kegamul alei imo, kagamul alai nafshi.

But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.

יַחֵל יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל־יְהוָה מֵעַתָּה וְעַד־עוֹלָם׃

Yachel Yisrael el Adonai, me'ata ve'ad olam.

Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת זְכוֹר־יְהוָה לְדָוִד אֵת כָּל־עֻנּוֹתוֹ׃

Shir hama'alot, zechor Adonai leDavid et kol unoto.

A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his self-denial.

אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע לַיהוָה נָדַר לַאֲבִיר יַעֲקֹב׃

Asher nishba laAdonai, nadar la'Avir Ya'akov.

He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:

אִם־אָבֹא בְּאֹהֶל בֵּיתִי אִם־אֶעֱלֶה עַל־עֶרֶשׂ יְצוּעָי׃

Im avo be'ohel beiti, im e'ele al eres yetzu'ai.

'I will not enter my house or go to my bed,

אִם־אֶתֵּן שְׁנַת לְעֵינָי לְעַפְעַפַּי תְּנוּמָה׃

Im eten shenat le'einai, le'af'apai tenuma.

I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,

עַד־אֶמְצָא מָקוֹם לַיהוָה מִשְׁכָּנוֹת לַאֲבִיר יַעֲקֹב׃

Ad emtza makom laAdonai, mishkanot la'Avir Ya'akov.

till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.'

הִנֵּה־שְׁמַעֲנוּהָ בְאֶפְרָתָה מְצָאנוּהָ בִּשְׂדֵי־יָעַר׃

Hineh shema'anuha ve'Efrata, metzanuha bisdei ya'ar.

We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:

נָבוֹאָה לְמִשְׁכְּנוֹתָיו נִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה לַהֲדֹם רַגְלָיו׃

Navo'a lemishkenotav, nishtachave lahadom raglav.

'Let us go to His dwelling place, let us worship at His footstool, saying,'

קוּמָה יְהוָה לִמְנוּחָתֶךָ אַתָּה וַאֲרוֹן עֻזֶּךָ׃

Kuma Adonai limnuchatecha, ata va'aron uzecha.

'Arise, LORD, and come to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might.'

כֹּהֲנֶיךָ יִלְבְּשׁוּ־צֶדֶק וַחֲסִידֶיךָ יְרַנֵּנוּ׃

Kohanecha yilbeshu tzedek, vachasidecha yeranenu.

May Your priests be clothed with Your righteousness; may Your faithful people sing for joy.

בַּעֲבוּר דָּוִד עַבְדֶּךָ אַל־תָּשֵׁב פְּנֵי מְשִׁיחֶךָ׃

Ba'avur David avdecha, al tashev penei meshichecha.

For the sake of Your servant David, do not reject Your anointed one.

נִשְׁבַּע־יְהוָה לְדָוִד אֱמֶת לֹא־יָשׁוּב מִמֶּנָּה מִפְּרִי בִטְנְךָ אָשִׁית לְכִסֵּא־לָךְ׃

Nishba Adonai leDavid emet, lo yashuv mimena, mipri vitnecha ashit lechise lach.

The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath He will not revoke: 'One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.'

אִם־יִשְׁמְרוּ בָנֶיךָ בְּרִיתִי וְעֵדֹתִי זוֹ אֲלַמְּדֵם גַּם־בְּנֵיהֶם עֲדֵי־עַד יֵשְׁבוּ לְכִסֵּא־לָךְ׃

Im yishmeru vanecha briti ve'edoti zo alamdem, gam bneihem adei ad yeshvu lechise lach.

'If your sons keep My covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne forever and ever.'

כִּי־בָחַר יְהוָה בְּצִיּוֹן אִוָּהּ לְמוֹשָׁב לוֹ׃

Ki vachar Adonai beTziyon, ivah lemoshav lo.

For the LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling, saying,

זֹאת־מְנוּחָתִי עֲדֵי־עַד פֹּה־אֵשֵׁב כִּי אִוִּתִיהָ׃

Zot menuchati adei ad, po eshev ki ivitiha.

'This is My resting place forever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.'

צֵידָהּ בָּרֵךְ אֲבָרֵךְ אֶבְיוֹנֶיהָ אַשְׂבִּיעַ לָחֶם׃

Tzeida barech avarech, evyoneha asbi'a lachem.

'I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food.'

וְכֹהֲנֶיהָ אַלְבִּישׁ יֶשַׁע וַחֲסִידֶיהָ רַנֵּן יְרַנֵּנוּ׃

Vechoaneha albish yesha, vachasideha ranen yeranenu.

'I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.'

שָׁם אַצְמִיחַ קֶרֶן לְדָוִד עָרַכְתִּי נֵר לִמְשִׁיחִי׃

Sham atzmia'ch keren leDavid, arachti ner limshichi.

'There I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for My anointed one.'

אוֹיְבָיו אַלְבִּישׁ בֹּשֶׁת וְעָלָיו יָצִיץ נִזְרוֹ׃

Oyvav albish boshet, ve'alav yatzitz nizro.

'I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.'

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לְדָוִד הִנֵּה מַה־טּוֹב וּמַה־נָּעִים שֶׁבֶת אַחִים גַּם־יָחַד׃

Shir hama'alot leDavid, hineh ma tov uma na'im, shevet achim gam yachad.

A song of ascents. Of David. How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!

כַּשֶּׁמֶן הַטּוֹב עַל־הָרֹאשׁ יֹרֵד עַל־הַזָּקָן זְקַן־אַהֲרֹן שֶׁיֹּרֵד עַל־פִּי מִדּוֹתָיו׃

Kashemen hatov al harosh, yored al hazakan, zekan Aharon, sheyored al pi midotav.

It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down on the collar of his robe.

כְּטַל־חֶרְמוֹן שֶׁיֹּרֵד עַל־הַרְרֵי צִיּוֹן כִּי שָׁם צִוָּה יְהוָה אֶת־הַבְּרָכָה חַיִּים עַד־הָעוֹלָם׃

Ketal Chermon sheyored al harerei Tziyon, ki sham tziva Adonai et habracha, chayim ad ha'olam.

It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows His blessing, even life forevermore.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת הִנֵּה בָּרְכוּ אֶת־יְהוָה כָּל־עַבְדֵי יְהוָה הָעֹמְדִים בְּבֵית־יְהוָה בַּלֵּילוֹת׃

Shir hama'alot, hineh barchu et Adonai kol avdei Adonai, ha'omdim beveit Adonai baleilot.

A song of ascents. Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD who minister by night in the house of the LORD.

שְׂאוּ־יְדֵכֶם קֹדֶשׁ וּבָרְכוּ אֶת־יְהוָה׃

Se'u yedechem kodesh, uvarchu et Adonai.

Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD.

יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה מִצִּיּוֹן עֹשֵׂה שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ׃

Yevarechecha Adonai miTziyon, oseh shamayim va'aretz.

May the LORD bless you from Zion, He who is the Maker of heaven and earth.

הַלְלוּ־יָהּ הַלְלוּ אֶת־שֵׁם יְהוָה הַלְלוּ עַבְדֵי יְהוָה׃

Halelu-Yah, halelu et shem Adonai, halelu avdei Adonai.

Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise Him, you servants of the LORD,

שֶׁעֹמְדִים בְּבֵית יְהוָה בְּחַצְרוֹת בֵּית אֱלֹהֵינוּ׃

She'omdim beveit Adonai, bechatzrot beit Eloheinu.

you who minister in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God.

הַלְלוּ־יָהּ כִּי־טוֹב יְהוָה זַמְּרוּ לִשְׁמוֹ כִּי נָעִים׃

Halelu-Yah ki tov Adonai, zamru lishmo ki na'im.

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to His name, for that is pleasant.

כִּי־יַעֲקֹב בָּחַר לוֹ יָהּ יִשְׂרָאֵל לִסְגֻלָּתוֹ׃

Ki Ya'akov bachar lo Yah, Yisrael lisegulato.

For the LORD has chosen Jacob to be His own, Israel to be His treasured possession.

כִּי אֲנִי יָדַעְתִּי כִּי־גָדוֹל יְהוָה וַאֲדֹנֵינוּ מִכָּל־אֱלֹהִים׃

Ki ani yadati ki gadol Adonai, va'Adoneinu mikol elohim.

I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods.

כֹּל אֲשֶׁר־חָפֵץ יְהוָה עָשָׂה בַּשָּׁמַיִם וּבָאָרֶץ בַּיַּמִּים וְכָל־תְּהוֹמוֹת׃

Kol asher chafetz Adonai asa, bashamayim uva'aretz, bayamim vechol tehomot.

The LORD does whatever pleases Him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths.

מַעֲלֶה נְשִׂאִים מִקְצֵה הָאָרֶץ בְּרָקִים לַמָּטָר עָשָׂה מוֹצֵא־רוּחַ מֵאוֹצְרוֹתָיו׃

Ma'ale nesi'im miktzeh ha'aretz, berakim lamatar asa, motze ru'ach me'otzrotav.

He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from His storehouses.

שֶׁהִכָּה בְּכוֹרֵי מִצְרָיִם מֵאָדָם עַד־בְּהֵמָה׃

Shehika bechorei Mitzrayim, me'adam ad behema.

He struck down the firstborn of Egypt, the firstborn of people and animals.

שָׁלַח אֹתוֹת וּמֹפְתִים בְּתוֹכֵכִי מִצְרָיִם בְּפַרְעֹה וּבְכָל־עֲבָדָיו׃

Shalach otot umoftim betochchi Mitzrayim, beFar'o uvechol avadav.

He sent His signs and wonders into your midst, Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.

שֶׁהִכָּה גּוֹיִם רַבִּים וְהָרַג מְלָכִים עֲצוּמִים׃

Shehika goyim rabim, veharag melachim atzumim.

He struck down many nations and killed mighty kings—

לְסִיחוֹן מֶלֶךְ הָאֱמֹרִי וּלְעוֹג מֶלֶךְ הַבָּשָׁן וּלְכֹל מַמְלְכוֹת כְּנָעַן׃

LeSichon melech ha'Emori, ule'Og melech haBashan, ulechol mamlachot Kena'an.

Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of Canaan—

וְנָתַן אַרְצָם נַחֲלָה נַחֲלָה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל עַמּוֹ׃

Venatan artzam nachala, nachala leYisrael amo.

and He gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to His people Israel.

יְהוָה שִׁמְךָ לְעוֹלָם יְהוָה זִכְרְךָ לְדֹר־וָדֹר׃

Adonai shimcha le'olam, Adonai zichrecha ledor vador.

Your name, LORD, endures forever, Your renown, LORD, through all generations.

כִּי־יָדִין יְהוָה עַמּוֹ וְעַל־עֲבָדָיו יִתְנֶחָם׃

Ki yadin Adonai amo, ve'al avadav yitnecham.

For the LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants.

עֲצַבֵּי הַגּוֹיִם כֶּסֶף וְזָהָב מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי אָדָם׃

Atzabei hagoyim kesef vezahav, ma'aseh yedei adam.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by human hands.

פֶּה־לָהֶם וְלֹא יְדַבֵּרוּ עֵינַיִם לָהֶם וְלֹא יִרְאוּ׃

Peh lahem velo yedaberu, einayim lahem velo yir'u.

They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.

אָזְנַיִם לָהֶם וְלֹא יַאֲזִינוּ אַף אֵין־יֶשׁ־רוּחַ בְּפִיהֶם׃

Oznayim lahem velo ya'azinu, af ein yesh ru'ach befihem.

They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths.

כְּמוֹהֶם יִהְיוּ עֹשֵׂיהֶם כֹּל אֲשֶׁר־בֹּטֵחַ בָּהֶם׃

Kemohem yihyu oseihem, kol asher bote'ach bahem.

Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.

בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל בָּרְכוּ אֶת־יְהוָה בֵּית אַהֲרֹן בָּרְכוּ אֶת־יְהוָה׃

Beit Yisrael barchu et Adonai, beit Aharon barchu et Adonai.

All you Israelites, praise the LORD; house of Aaron, praise the LORD;

בֵּית הַלֵּוִי בָּרְכוּ אֶת־יְהוָה יִרְאֵי יְהוָה בָּרְכוּ אֶת־יְהוָה׃

Beit haLevi barchu et Adonai, yir'ei Adonai barchu et Adonai.

house of Levi, praise the LORD; you who fear Him, praise the LORD.

בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה מִצִּיּוֹן שֹׁכֵן יְרוּשָׁלָיִם הַלְלוּ־יָהּ׃

Baruch Adonai miTziyon, shochen Yerushalayim, Halelu-Yah.

Praise be to the LORD from Zion, to Him who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise the LORD.

הוֹדוּ לַיהוָה כִּי־טוֹב כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Hodu laAdonai ki tov, ki le'olam chasdo.

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever.

הוֹדוּ לֵאלֹהֵי הָאֱלֹהִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Hodu lElohei ha'elohim, ki le'olam chasdo.

Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.

הוֹדוּ לַאֲדֹנֵי הָאֲדֹנִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Hodu laAdonei ha'adonim, ki le'olam chasdo.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.

לְעֹשֵׂה נִפְלָאוֹת גְּדֹלוֹת לְבַדּוֹ כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Le'oseh nifla'ot gedolot levado, ki le'olam chasdo.

To Him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.

לְעֹשֵׂה הַשָּׁמַיִם בִּתְבוּנָה כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Le'oseh hashamayim bitvuna, ki le'olam chasdo.

Who by His understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever.

לְרֹקַע הָאָרֶץ עַל־הַמָּיִם כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Leroka ha'aretz al hamayim, ki le'olam chasdo.

Who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever.

לְעֹשֵׂה אוֹרִים גְּדֹלִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Le'oseh orim gedolim, ki le'olam chasdo.

Who made the great lights—His love endures forever.

אֶת־הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ לְמֶמְשֶׁלֶת בַּיּוֹם כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Et hashemesh lememshelet bayom, ki le'olam chasdo.

The sun to govern the day, His love endures forever.

אֶת־הַיָּרֵחַ וְכוֹכָבִים לְמֶמְשְׁלוֹת בַּלָּיְלָה כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Et hayare'ach vechochavim lememshelot balayla, ki le'olam chasdo.

The moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever.

לְמַכֵּה מִצְרַיִם בִּבְכוֹרֵיהֶם כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Lemake Mitzrayim bivchoreihem, ki le'olam chasdo.

To Him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt His love endures forever.

וַיּוֹצֵא יִשְׂרָאֵל מִתּוֹכָם כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Vayotze Yisrael mitocham, ki le'olam chasdo.

And brought Israel out from among them His love endures forever.

בְּיָד חֲזָקָה וּבִזְרוֹעַ נְטוּיָה כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Beyad chazaka uvizro'a netuya, ki le'olam chasdo.

With a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever.

לְגֹזֵר יַם־סוּף לִגְזָרִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Legozer yam suf ligzarim, ki le'olam chasdo.

To Him who divided the Red Sea asunder His love endures forever.

וְהֶעֱבִיר יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּתוֹכוֹ כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Vehe'evir Yisrael betocho, ki le'olam chasdo.

And brought Israel through the midst of it, His love endures forever.

וְנִעֵר פַּרְעֹה וְחֵילוֹ בְיַם־סוּף כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Veni'er Par'o vecheilo veyam suf, ki le'olam chasdo.

But swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea; His love endures forever.

לְמוֹלִיךְ עַמּוֹ בַּמִּדְבָּר כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Lemolich amo bamidbar, ki le'olam chasdo.

To Him who led His people through the wilderness; His love endures forever.

לְמַכֵּה מְלָכִים גְּדֹלִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Lemake melachim gedolim, ki le'olam chasdo.

To Him who struck down great kings, His love endures forever.

וַיַּהֲרֹג מְלָכִים אַדִּירִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Vayaharog melachim adirim, ki le'olam chasdo.

And killed mighty kings—His love endures forever.

לְסִיחוֹן מֶלֶךְ הָאֱמֹרִי כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

LeSichon melech ha'Emori, ki le'olam chasdo.

Sihon king of the Amorites His love endures forever.

וּלְעוֹג מֶלֶךְ הַבָּשָׁן כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Ule'Og melech haBashan, ki le'olam chasdo.

And Og king of Bashan—His love endures forever.

וְנָתַן אַרְצָם לְנַחֲלָה כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Venatan artzam lenachala, ki le'olam chasdo.

And gave their land as an inheritance, His love endures forever.

נַחֲלָה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל עַבְדּוֹ כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Nachala leYisrael avdo, ki le'olam chasdo.

An inheritance to His servant Israel. His love endures forever.

שֶׁבְּשִׁפְלֵנוּ זָכַר לָנוּ כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Shebeshiflenu zachar lanu, ki le'olam chasdo.

He remembered us in our low estate His love endures forever.

וַיִּפְרְקֵנוּ מִצָּרֵינוּ כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Vayifrekenu mitzareinu, ki le'olam chasdo.

And freed us from our enemies. His love endures forever.

נֹתֵן לֶחֶם לְכָל־בָּשָׂר כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Noten lechem lechol basar, ki le'olam chasdo.

He gives food to every creature. His love endures forever.

הוֹדוּ לְאֵל הַשָּׁמָיִם כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

Hodu le'El hashamayim, ki le'olam chasdo.

Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

עַל נַהֲרוֹת בָּבֶל שָׁם יָשַׁבְנוּ גַּם־בָּכִינוּ בְּזָכְרֵנוּ אֶת־צִיּוֹן׃

Al naharot Bavel sham yashavnu, gam bachinu bezochrenu et Tziyon.

By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion.

עַל־עֲרָבִים בְּתוֹכָהּ תָּלִינוּ כִּנֹּרוֹתֵינוּ׃

Al aravim betocha talinu kinoroteinu.

There on the poplars we hung our harps,

כִּי שָׁם שְׁאֵלוּנוּ שׁוֹבֵינוּ דִּבְרֵי־שִׁיר וְתוֹלָלֵינוּ שִׂמְחָה שִׁירוּ לָנוּ מִשִּׁיר צִיּוֹן׃

Ki sham she'elunu shoveinu divrei shir, vetolaleinu simcha, shiru lanu mishir Tziyon.

for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, 'Sing us one of the songs of Zion!'

אֵיךְ נָשִׁיר אֶת־שִׁיר־יְהוָה עַל אַדְמַת נֵכָר׃

Eich nashir et shir Adonai, al admat nechar.

How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land?

אִם־אֶשְׁכָּחֵךְ יְרוּשָׁלָיִם תִּשְׁכַּח יְמִינִי׃

Im eshkachech Yerushalayim, tishkach yemini.

If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.

תִּדְבַּק־לְשׁוֹנִי לְחִכִּי אִם־לֹא אֶזְכְּרֵכִי אִם־לֹא אַעֲלֶה אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַיִם עַל רֹאשׁ שִׂמְחָתִי׃

Tidbak leshoni lechiki, im lo ezkerechi, im lo a'ale et Yerushalayim al rosh simchati.

May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.

זְכֹר יְהוָה לִבְנֵי אֱדוֹם אֵת יוֹם יְרוּשָׁלָיִם הָאֹמְרִים עָרוּ עָרוּ עַד הַיְסוֹד בָּהּ׃

Zechor Adonai livnei Edom et yom Yerushalayim, ha'omrim aru aru ad hayesod ba.

Remember, LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. 'Tear it down,' they cried, 'tear it down to its foundations!'

בַּת־בָּבֶל הַשְּׁדוּדָה אַשְׁרֵי שֶׁיְשַׁלֶּם־לָךְ אֶת־גְּמוּלֵךְ שֶׁגָּמַלְתְּ לָנוּ׃

Bat Bavel hashduda, ashrei sheyeshalem lach et gemulech shegamalt lanu.

Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who repays you according to what you have done to us.

אַשְׁרֵי שֶׁיֹּאחֵז וְנִפֵּץ אֶת־עֹלָלַיִךְ אֶל־הַסָּלַע׃

Ashrei sheyochaz venipetz et olalayich el hasala.

Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

לְדָוִד אוֹדְךָ בְכָל־לִבִּי נֶגֶד אֱלֹהִים אֲזַמְּרֶךָּ׃

LeDavid, odcha vechol libi, neged elohim azamereka.

Of David. I will praise You, LORD, with all my heart; before the 'gods' I will sing Your praise.

אֶשְׁתַּחֲוֶה אֶל־הֵיכַל קָדְשְׁךָ וְאוֹדֶה אֶת־שְׁמֶךָ עַל־חַסְדְּךָ וְעַל־אֲמִתֶּךָ כִּי־הִגְדַּלְתָּ עַל־כָּל־שִׁמְךָ אִמְרָתֶךָ׃

Eshtachave el heichal kodshecha, ve'ode et shimcha al chasdecha ve'al amitecha, ki higdalta al kol shimcha imratecha.

I will bow down toward Your holy temple and will praise Your name for Your unfailing love and Your faithfulness, for You have so exalted Your solemn decree that it surpasses Your fame.

בְּיוֹם קָרָאתִי וַתַּעֲנֵנִי תַּרְהִבֵנִי בְנַפְשִׁי עֹז׃

Beyom karati vata'aneni, tarhiveni venafshi oz.

When I called, You answered me; You greatly emboldened me.

יוֹדוּךָ יְהוָה כָּל־מַלְכֵי־אָרֶץ כִּי שָׁמְעוּ אִמְרֵי־פִיךָ׃

Yoducha Adonai kol malchei aretz, ki sham'u imrei ficha.

May all the kings of the earth praise You, LORD, when they hear what You have decreed.

וְיָשִׁירוּ בְּדַרְכֵי יְהוָה כִּי גָדוֹל כְּבוֹד יְהוָה׃

Veyashiru bedarchei Adonai, ki gadol kevod Adonai.

May they sing of the ways of the LORD, for the glory of the LORD is great.

כִּי־רָם יְהוָה וְשָׁפָל יִרְאֶה וְגָבֹהַּ מִמֶּרְחָק יְיֵדָע׃

Ki ram Adonai veshafal yir'e, vegavoha mimerchak yeyeda.

Though the LORD is exalted, He looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, He sees them from afar.

אִם־אֵלֵךְ בְּקֶרֶב צָרָה תְּחַיֵּנִי עַל אַף אֹיְבַי תִּשְׁלַח יָדֶךָ וְתוֹשִׁיעֵנִי יְמִינֶךָ׃

Im elech bekerev tzara techayeni, al af oyvai tishlach yadecha, vetoshi'eni yeminecha.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You preserve my life. You stretch out Your hand against the anger of my foes; with Your right hand You save me.

יְהוָה יִגְמֹר בַּעֲדִי יְהוָה חַסְדְּךָ לְעוֹלָם מַעֲשֵׂי יָדֶיךָ אַל־תֶּרֶף׃

Adonai yigmor ba'adi, Adonai chasdecha le'olam, ma'asei yadecha al teref.

The LORD will vindicate me; Your love, LORD, endures forever—do not abandon the works of Your hands.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד מִזְמוֹר יְהוָה חֲקַרְתַּנִי וַתֵּדָע׃

Lamnatzei'ach leDavid mizmor, Adonai chakartani vateda.

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, LORD, and You know me.

אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ שִׁבְתִּי וְקוּמִי בַּנְתָּה לְרֵעִי מֵרָחוֹק׃

Ata yadata shivti vekumi, banta lere'i merachok.

You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar.

אָרְחִי וְרִבְעִי זֵרִיתָ וְכָל־דְּרָכַי הִסְכַּנְתָּה׃

Orchi veriv'i zerita, vechol derachai hiskanta.

You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways.

כִּי אֵין מִלָּה בִּלְשׁוֹנִי הֵן יְהוָה יָדַעְתָּ כֻלָּהּ׃

Ki ein mila bilshoni, hen Adonai yadata chula.

Before a word is on my tongue You, LORD, know it completely.

אָחוֹר וָקֶדֶם צַרְתָּנִי וַתָּשֶׁת עָלַי כַּפֶּכָה׃

Achor vakedem tzartani, vatashet alai kapecha.

You hem me in behind and before, and You lay Your hand upon me.

פְּלִיאָה דַעַת מִמֶּנִּי נִשְׂגְּבָה לֹא־אוּכַל לָהּ׃

Peli'a da'at mimeni, nisgeva lo uchal la.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

אָנָה אֵלֵךְ מֵרוּחֶךָ וְאָנָה מִפָּנֶיךָ אֶבְרָח׃

Ana elech meRuchecha, ve'ana mipanecha evrach.

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?

אִם־אֶסַּק שָׁמַיִם שָׁם אָתָּה וְאַצִּיעָה שְּׁאוֹל הִנֶּךָּ׃

Im esak shamayim sham ata, ve'atzi'a she'ol hineka.

If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.

אֶשָּׂא כַנְפֵי־שָׁחַר אֶשְׁכְּנָה בְּאַחֲרִית יָם׃

Esa chanfei shachar, eshkena be'acharit yam.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

גַּם־שָׁם יָדְךָ תַנְחֵנִי וְתֹאחֲזֵנִי יְמִינֶךָ׃

Gam sham yadcha tancheni, veto'achazeni yeminecha.

even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast.

וָאֹמַר אַךְ־חֹשֶׁךְ יְשׁוּפֵנִי וְלַיְלָה אוֹר בַּעֲדֵנִי׃

Va'omar ach choshech yeshufeni, velayla or ba'adeni.

If I say, 'Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,'

גַּם־חֹשֶׁךְ לֹא־יַחְשִׁיךְ מִמֶּךָּ וְלַיְלָה כַּיּוֹם יָאִיר כַּחֲשֵׁיכָה כָּאוֹרָה׃

Gam choshech lo yachshich mimeka, velayla kayom ya'ir, kachasheicha ka'ora.

even the darkness will not be dark to You; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to You.

כִּי־אַתָּה קָנִיתָ כִלְיֹתָי תְּסֻכֵּנִי בְּבֶטֶן אִמִּי׃

Ki ata kanita chilyotai, tesukeni beveten imi.

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb.

אוֹדְךָ עַל כִּי נוֹרָאוֹת נִפְלֵיתִי נִפְלָאִים מַעֲשֶׂיךָ וְנַפְשִׁי יֹדַעַת מְאֹד׃

Odcha al ki nora'ot nifleiti, nifla'im ma'asecha, venafshi yoda'at me'od.

I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

לֹא־נִכְחַד עָצְמִי מִמֶּךָּ אֲשֶׁר־עֻשֵּׂיתִי בַסֵּתֶר רֻקַּמְתִּי בְּתַחְתִּיּוֹת אָרֶץ׃

Lo nichad atzmi mimeka, asher useti baseter, rukamti betachtiyot aretz.

My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

גָּלְמִי רָאוּ עֵינֶיךָ וְעַל־סִפְרְךָ כֻּלָּם יִכָּתֵבוּ יָמִים יֻצָּרוּ וְלֹא אֶחָד בָּהֶם׃

Golmi ra'u einecha, ve'al sifrecha kulam yikatevu, yamim yutzaru velo echad bahem.

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.

וְלִי מַה־יָּקְרוּ רֵעֶיךָ אֵל מֶה עָצְמוּ רָאשֵׁיהֶם׃

Veli ma yakru re'echa El, me atzmu rasheihem.

How precious to me are Your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!

אֶסְפְּרֵם מֵחוֹל יִרְבּוּן הֱקִיצֹתִי וְעוֹדִי עִמָּךְ׃

Esperem mechol yirbun, hekitzoti ve'odi imach.

Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with You.

אִם־תִּקְטֹל אֱלוֹהַּ רָשָׁע וְאַנְשֵׁי דָמִים סוּרוּ מֶנִּי׃

Im tiktol Eloha rasha, ve'anshei damim suru meni.

If only You, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!

אֲשֶׁר יֹאמְרֻךָ לִמְזִמָּה נָשֻׂא לַשָּׁוְא עָרֶיךָ׃

Asher yomrucha limzima, nasu lashav arecha.

They speak of You with evil intent; Your adversaries misuse Your name.

הֲלוֹא־מְשַׂנְאֶיךָ יְהוָה אֶשְׂנָא וּבִתְקוֹמְמֶיךָ אֶתְקוֹטָט׃

Halo mesan'echa Adonai esna, uvitkomemecha etkotat.

Do I not hate those who hate You, LORD, and abhor those who are in rebellion against You?

תַּכְלִית שִׂנְאָה שְׂנֵאתִים לְאוֹיְבִים הָיוּ לִי׃

Tachlit sin'a snetim, le'oyvim hayu li.

I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.

חָקְרֵנִי אֵל וְדַע לְבָבִי בְּחָנֵנִי וְדַע שַׂרְעַפָּי׃

Chokreni El veda levavi, bechaneni veda sar'apai.

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

וּרְאֵה אִם־דֶּרֶךְ־עֹצֶב בִּי וּנְחֵנִי בְּדֶרֶךְ עוֹלָם׃

Ur'e im derech otzev bi, uncheni bederech olam.

See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach mizmor leDavid.

חַלְּצֵנִי יְהוָה מֵאָדָם רָע מֵאִישׁ חֲמָסִים תִּנְצְרֵנִי׃

Chaltzeni Adonai me'adam ra, me'ish chamasim tintzreni.

Rescue me, LORD, from evildoers; protect me from the violent,

אֲשֶׁר חָשְׁבוּ רָעוֹת בְּלֵב כָּל־יוֹם יָגוּרוּ מִלְחָמוֹת׃

Asher chashvu ra'ot belev, kol yom yaguru milchamot.

who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.

שָׁנֲנוּ לְשׁוֹנָם כְּמוֹ־נָחָשׁ חֲמַת עַכְשׁוּב תַּחַת שְׂפָתֵימוֹ סֶלָה׃

Shananu leshonam kemo nachash, chamat achshuv tachat sfateimo, Selah.

They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips.

שָׁמְרֵנִי יְהוָה מִידֵי רָשָׁע מֵאִישׁ חֲמָסִים תִּנְצְרֵנִי אֲשֶׁר חָשְׁבוּ לִדְחוֹת פְּעָמָי׃

Shomreni Adonai midei rasha, me'ish chamasim tintzreni, asher chashvu lidchot pe'amai.

Keep me safe, LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet.

טָמְנוּ גֵאִים פַּח לִי וַחֲבָלִים פָּרְשׂוּ רֶשֶׁת לְיַד־מַעְגָּל מֹקְשִׁים שָׁתוּ־לִי סֶלָה׃

Tamnu ge'im pach li, vachavalim parsu reshet leyad ma'gal, mokshim shatu li, Selah.

The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.

אָמַרְתִּי לַיהוָה אֵלִי אָתָּה הַאֲזִינָה יְהוָה קוֹל תַּחֲנוּנָי׃

Amarti laAdonai Eli ata, ha'azina Adonai kol tachanunai.

I say to the LORD, 'You are my God.' Hear, LORD, my cry for mercy.

יְהוִה אֲדֹנָי עֹז יְשׁוּעָתִי סַכֹּתָה לְרֹאשִׁי בְּיוֹם נָשֶׁק׃

Adonai Adoni oz yeshu'ati, sakota leroshi beyom nashek.

Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, You shield my head in the day of battle.

אַל־תִּתֵּן יְהוָה מַאֲוַיֵּי רָשָׁע זְמָמוֹ אַל־תָּפֵק יָרוּמוּ סֶלָה׃

Al titen Adonai ma'avayei rasha, zemamo al tafek, yarumu, Selah.

Do not grant the wicked their desires, LORD; do not let their plans succeed.

רֹאשׁ מְסִבָּי עֲמַל שְׂפָתֵימוֹ יְכַסֵּימוֹ׃

Rosh mesibai amal sfateimo yechasemo.

Those who surround me proudly rear their heads; may the mischief of their lips engulf them.

יִמּוֹטוּ עֲלֵיהֶם גֶּחָלִים בָּאֵשׁ יַפִּלֵם בְּמַהֲמֹרוֹת בַּל־יָקוּמוּ׃

Yimotu aleihem gechalim, ba'esh yapilem, bemahamorot bal yakumu.

May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.

אִישׁ לָשׁוֹן בַּל־יִכּוֹן בָּאָרֶץ אִישׁ־חָמָס רָע יְצוּדֶנּוּ לְמַדְחֵפֹת׃

Ish lashon bal yikon ba'aretz, ish chamas ra yetzudenu lemadchefot.

May slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down the violent.

יָדַעְתִּי כִּי־יַעֲשֶׂה יְהוָה דִּין עָנִי מִשְׁפַּט אֶבְיֹנִים׃

Yadati ki ya'aseh Adonai din ani, mishpat evyonim.

I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.

אַךְ צַדִּיקִים יוֹדוּ לִשְׁמֶךָ יֵשְׁבוּ יְשָׁרִים אֶת־פָּנֶיךָ׃

Ach tzadikim yodu lishemecha, yeshvu yesharim et panecha.

Surely the righteous will praise Your name, and the upright will live in Your presence.
