תהילים 121-130

שִׁיר לַמַּעֲלוֹת אֶשָּׂא עֵינַי אֶל־הֶהָרִים מֵאַיִן יָבֹא עֶזְרִי׃

Shir lama'alot, essa einai el heharim, me'ayin yavo ezri.

A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains—from where does my help come?

עֶזְרִי מֵעִם יְהוָה עֹשֵׂה שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ׃

Ezri me'im Adonai, oseh shamayim va'aretz.

My help comes from the LORD, Maker of heaven and earth.

אַל־יִתֵּן לַמּוֹט רַגְלֶךָ אַל־יָנוּם שֹׁמְרֶךָ׃

Al yiten lamot raglecha, al yanum shomerecha.

He will not let your foot slip—He who watches over you will not slumber.

הִנֵּה לֹא־יָנוּם וְלֹא יִישָׁן שׁוֹמֵר יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Hineh lo yanum velo yishan, shomer Yisrael.

Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

יְהוָה שֹׁמְרֶךָ יְהוָה צִלְּךָ עַל־יַד יְמִינֶךָ׃

Adonai shomerecha, Adonai tzilcha al yad yeminecha.

The LORD watches over you—the LORD is your shade at your right hand.

יוֹמָם הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ לֹא־יַכֶּכָּה וְיָרֵחַ בַּלָּיְלָה׃

Yomam hashemesh lo yakeka, veyare'ach balayla.

The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

יְהוָה יִשְׁמָרְךָ מִכָּל־רָע יִשְׁמֹר אֶת־נַפְשֶׁךָ׃

Adonai yishmorcha mikol ra, yishmor et nafshecha.

The LORD will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life.

יְהוָה יִשְׁמָר־צֵאתְךָ וּבוֹאֶךָ מֵעַתָּה וְעַד־עוֹלָם׃

Adonai yishmor tzetcha uvo'echa, me'ata ve'ad olam.

The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לְדָוִד שָׂמַחְתִּי בְּאֹמְרִים לִי בֵּית יְהוָה נֵלֵךְ׃

Shir hama'alot leDavid, samachti be'omrim li beit Adonai nelech.

A song of ascents. Of David. I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the LORD.'

עֹמְדוֹת הָיוּ רַגְלֵינוּ בִּשְׁעָרַיִךְ יְרוּשָׁלָיִם׃

Omdot hayu ragleinu bish'arayich Yerushalayim.

Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.

יְרוּשָׁלַיִם הַבְּנוּיָה כְּעִיר שֶׁחֻבְּרָה־לָּהּ יַחְדָּו׃

Yerushalayim habnuya ke'ir shechubra lah yachdav.

Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together.

שֶׁשָּׁם עָלוּ שְׁבָטִים שִׁבְטֵי־יָהּ עֵדוּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל לְהֹדוֹת לְשֵׁם יְהוָה׃

Shesham alu shevatim shivtei Yah, edut leYisrael, lehodot leshem Adonai.

There the tribes go up—the tribes of the LORD—to praise the name of the LORD according to the statute given to Israel.

כִּי שָׁמָּה יָשְׁבוּ כִסְאוֹת לְמִשְׁפָּט כִּסְאוֹת לְבֵית דָּוִד׃

Ki shama yashvu chis'ot lemishpat, kis'ot leveit David.

There thrones for judgment stand, the thrones of the house of David.

שַׁאֲלוּ שְׁלוֹם יְרוּשָׁלָיִם יִשְׁלָיוּ אֹהֲבָיִךְ׃

Sha'alu shalom Yerushalayim, yishlayu ohavayich.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May those who love you be secure.'

יְהִי־שָׁלוֹם בְּחֵילֵךְ שַׁלְוָה בְּאַרְמְנוֹתָיִךְ׃

Yehi shalom becheilech, shalva be'armenotayich.

May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.

לְמַעַן אַחַי וְרֵעָי אֲדַבְּרָה־נָּא שָׁלוֹם בָּךְ׃

Lema'an achai vere'ai adabera na shalom bach.

For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, 'Peace be within you.'

לְמַעַן בֵּית־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֲבַקְשָׁה טוֹב לָךְ׃

Lema'an beit Adonai Eloheinu, avaksha tov lach.

For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת אֵלֶיךָ נָשָׂאתִי אֶת־עֵינַי הַיֹּשְׁבִי בַּשָּׁמָיִם׃

Shir hama'alot, elecha nasati et einai, hayoshvi bashamayim.

A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to You, to You who sit enthroned in heaven.

הִנֵּה כְעֵינֵי עֲבָדִים אֶל־יַד אֲדוֹנֵיהֶם כְּעֵינֵי שִׁפְחָה אֶל־יַד גְּבִרְתָּהּ כֵּן עֵינֵינוּ אֶל־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ עַד שֶׁיְּחָנֵּנוּ׃

Hineh che'einei avadim el yad adoneihem, ke'einei shifcha el yad gvirta, ken eineinu el Adonai Eloheinu ad sheyechanenu.

As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till He shows us His mercy.

חָנֵּנוּ יְהוָה חָנֵּנוּ כִּי־רַב שָׂבַעְנוּ בוּז׃

Chanenu Adonai chanenu, ki rav sava'nu vuz.

Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt.

רַבַּת שָׂבְעָה־לָּהּ נַפְשֵׁנוּ הַלַּעַג הַשַּׁאֲנַנִּים הַבּוּז לִגְאֵי יוֹנִים׃

Rabat save'a la nafshenu hala'ag hasha'ananim, habuz lig'ei yonim.

We have had more than enough of the ridicule of the arrogant, of the contempt of the proud.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לְדָוִד לוּלֵי יְהוָה שֶׁהָיָה לָנוּ יֹאמַר־נָא יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Shir hama'alot leDavid, lulei Adonai shehaya lanu, yomar na Yisrael.

A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side—let Israel say—

לוּלֵי יְהוָה שֶׁהָיָה לָנוּ בְּקוּם עָלֵינוּ אָדָם׃

Lulei Adonai shehaya lanu, bekum aleinu adam.

if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us,

אֲזַי חַיִּים בְּלָעוּנוּ בַּחֲרוֹת אַפָּם בָּנוּ׃

Azai chayim bela'unu, bacharot apam banu.

they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger flared against us;

אֲזַי הַמַּיִם שְׁטָפוּנוּ נַחְלָה עָבַר עַל־נַפְשֵׁנוּ׃

Azai hamayim shetafunu, nachla avar al nafshenu.

the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,

אֲזַי עָבַר עַל־נַפְשֵׁנוּ הַמַּיִם הַזֵּידוֹנִים׃

Azai avar al nafshenu hamayim hazeidonim.

the raging waters would have swept us away.

בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה שֶׁלֹּא נְתָנָנוּ טֶרֶף לְשִׁנֵּיהֶם׃

Baruch Adonai shelo netananu teref leshineihem.

Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.

נַפְשֵׁנוּ כְּצִפּוֹר נִמְלְטָה מִפַּח יוֹקְשִׁים הַפַּח נִשְׁבָּר וַאֲנַחְנוּ נִמְלָטְנוּ׃

Nafshenu ketzipor nimleta mipach yokshim, hapach nishbar va'anachnu nimlatnu.

We have escaped like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.

עֶזְרֵנוּ בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה עֹשֵׂה שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ׃

Ezrenu beshem Adonai, oseh shamayim va'aretz.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת הַבֹּטְחִים בַּיהוָה כְּהַר־צִיּוֹן לֹא־יִמּוֹט לְעוֹלָם יֵשֵׁב׃

Shir hama'alot, habotchim baAdonai kehar Tziyon lo yimot le'olam yeshev.

A song of ascents. Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

יְרוּשָׁלַיִם הָרִים סָבִיב לָהּ וַיהוָה סָבִיב לְעַמּוֹ מֵעַתָּה וְעַד־עוֹלָם׃

Yerushalayim harim saviv la, vaAdonai saviv le'amo me'ata ve'ad olam.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people both now and forevermore.

כִּי לֹא יָנוּחַ שֵׁבֶט הָרֶשַׁע עַל גּוֹרַל הַצַּדִּיקִים לְמַעַן לֹא־יִשְׁלְחוּ הַצַּדִּיקִים בְּעַוְלָתָה יְדֵיהֶם׃

Ki lo yanu'ach shevet haresha al goral hatzadikim, lema'an lo yishlechu hatzadikim be'avlata yedeihem.

The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil.

הֵיטִיבָה יְהוָה לַטּוֹבִים וְלִישָׁרִים בְּלִבּוֹתָם׃

Heitiva Adonai latovim, velisharim belibotam.

LORD, do good to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart.

וְהַמַּטִּים עַקַלְקַלּוֹתָם יוֹלִיכֵם יְהוָה אֶת־פֹּעֲלֵי הָאָוֶן שָׁלוֹם עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Vehamatim akalkalotam yolichem Adonai et po'alei ha'aven, shalom al Yisrael.

But those who turn to crooked ways the LORD will banish with the evildoers. Peace be on Israel.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת בְּשׁוּב יְהוָה אֶת־שִׁיבַת צִיּוֹן הָיִינוּ כְּחֹלְמִים׃

Shir hama'alot, beshuv Adonai et shivat Tziyon hayinu kecholmim.

A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.

אָז יִמָּלֵא שְׂחוֹק פִּינוּ וּלְשׁוֹנֵנוּ רִנָּה אָז יֹאמְרוּ בַגּוֹיִם הִגְדִּיל יְהוָה לַעֲשׂוֹת עִם־אֵלֶּה׃

Az yimale sechok pinu ulshonenu rina, az yomru vagoyim higdil Adonai la'asot im ele.

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, 'The LORD has done great things for them.'

הִגְדִּיל יְהוָה לַעֲשׂוֹת עִמָּנוּ הָיִינוּ שְׂמֵחִים׃

Higdil Adonai la'asot imanu, hayinu semechim.

The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.

שׁוּבָה יְהוָה אֶת־שְׁבִיתֵנוּ כַּאֲפִיקִים בַּנֶּגֶב׃

Shuva Adonai et shevitenu ka'afikim baNegev.

Restore our fortunes, LORD, like streams in the Negev.

הַזֹּרְעִים בְּדִמְעָה בְּרִנָּה יִקְצֹרוּ׃

Hazor'im bedim'a berina yiktzoru.

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.

הָלוֹךְ יֵלֵךְ וּבָכֹה נֹשֵׂא מֶשֶׁךְ־הַזָּרַע בֹּא־יָבוֹא בְרִנָּה נֹשֵׂא אֲלֻמֹּתָיו׃

Haloch yelech uvacho noseh meshech hazara, bo yavo verina noseh alumotav.

Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לִשְׁלֹמֹה אִם־יְהוָה לֹא־יִבְנֶה בַיִת שָׁוְא עָמְלוּ בוֹנָיו בּוֹ אִם־יְהוָה לֹא־יִשְׁמָר־עִיר שָׁוְא שָׁקַד שׁוֹמֵר׃

Shir hama'alot liShlomo, im Adonai lo yivneh vayit shav amlu vonav vo, im Adonai lo yishmor ir shav shakad shomer.

A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

שָׁוְא לָכֶם מַשְׁכִּימֵי קוּם מְאַחֲרֵי־שֶׁבֶת אֹכְלֵי לֶחֶם הָעֲצָבִים כֵּן יִתֵּן לִידִידוֹ שֵׁנָא׃

Shav lachem mashkimei kum me'acharei shevet ochlei lechem ha'atzavim, ken yiten lidido shena.

In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for He grants sleep to those He loves.

הִנֵּה נַחֲלַת יְהוָה בָּנִים שָׂכָר פְּרִי הַבָּטֶן׃

Hineh nachalat Adonai banim, sachar pri habaten.

Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from Him.

כְּחִצִּים בְּיַד־גִּבּוֹר כֵּן בְּנֵי הַנְּעוּרִים׃

Kechitzim beyad gibor, ken bnei hane'urim.

Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth.

אַשְׁרֵי הַגֶּבֶר אֲשֶׁר מִלֵּא אֶת־אַשְׁפָּתוֹ מֵהֶם לֹא־יֵבֹשׁוּ כִּי־יְדַבְּרוּ אֶת־אוֹיְבִים בַּשָּׁעַר׃

Ashrei hagever asher mile et ashpato mehem, lo yevoshu ki yedabru et oyvim basha'ar.

Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת אַשְׁרֵי כָּל־יְרֵא יְהוָה הַהֹלֵךְ בִּדְרָכָיו׃

Shir hama'alot, ashrei kol yerei Adonai, haholech bidrachav.

A song of ascents. Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in obedience to Him.

יְגִיעַ כַּפֶּיךָ כִּי תֹאכֵל אַשְׁרֶיךָ וְטוֹב לָךְ׃

Yegia kapecha ki tochel, ashrecha vetov lach.

You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

אֶשְׁתְּךָ כְּגֶפֶן פֹּרִיָּה בְּיַרְכְּתֵי בֵיתֶךָ בָּנֶיךָ כִּשְׁתִלֵי זֵיתִים סָבִיב לְשֻׁלְחָנֶךָ׃

Esht'cha kegefen poriya beyarketei veitecha, banecha kishtilei zeitim saviv leshulchanecha.

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.

הִנֵּה כִי־כֵן יְבֹרַךְ גָּבֶר יְרֵא יְהוָה׃

Hineh ki chen yevorach gaver yerei Adonai.

Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the LORD.

יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה מִצִּיּוֹן וּרְאֵה בְּטוּב יְרוּשָׁלָיִם כֹּל יְמֵי חַיֶּיךָ׃

Yevarechecha Adonai miTziyon, ur'eh betuv Yerushalayim kol yemei chayecha.

May the LORD bless you from Zion; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

וּרְאֵה־בָנִים לְבָנֶיךָ שָׁלוֹם עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Ur'eh vanim levanecha, shalom al Yisrael.

May you live to see your children's children—peace be on Israel.

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת רַבַּת צְרָרוּנִי מִנְּעוּרַי יֹאמַר־נָא יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Shir hama'alot, rabat tzeraruni mine'urai, yomar na Yisrael.

A song of ascents. 'They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,' let Israel say.

רַבַּת צְרָרוּנִי מִנְּעוּרָי גַּם לֹא־יָכְלוּ לִי׃

Rabat tzeraruni mine'urai, gam lo yachlu li.

'They have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.'

עַל־גַּבִּי חָרְשׁוּ חֹרְשִׁים הֶאֱרִיכוּ לְמַעֲנִותָם׃

Al gabi charshu chorshim, he'erichu lema'anitam.

Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.

יְהוָה צַדִּיק קִצֵּץ עֲבוֹת רְשָׁעִים׃

Adonai tzadik kitzetz avot resha'im.

But the LORD is righteous; He has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.

יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיִסֹּגוּ אָחוֹר כֹּל שֹׂנְאֵי צִיּוֹן׃

Yevoshu veyisogu achor kol sonei Tziyon.

May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.

יִהְיוּ כַּחֲצִיר גַּגּוֹת שֶׁקַּדְמַת שָׁלַף יָבֵשׁ׃

Yihyu kachatzir gagot, shekadmat shalaf yavesh.

May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;

שֶׁלֹּא מִלֵּא כַפּוֹ קוֹצֵר וְחִצְנוֹ מְעַמֵּר׃

Shelo mile chapo kotzer, vechitzno me'amer.

a reaper cannot fill his hands with it, nor one who gathers fill his arms.

וְלֹא אָמְרוּ הָעֹבְרִים בִּרְכַּת יְהוָה אֲלֵיכֶם בֵּרַכְנוּ אֶתְכֶם בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה׃

Velo amru ha'ovrim birkat Adonai aleichem, berachnu etchem beshem Adonai.

May those who pass by not say to them, 'The blessing of the LORD be on you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.'

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת מִמַּעֲמַקִּים קְרָאתִיךָ יְהוָה׃

Shir hama'alot, mima'amakim keraticha Adonai.

A song of ascents. Out of the depths I cry to You, LORD;

אֲדֹנָי שִׁמְעָה בְקוֹלִי תִּהְיֶינָה אָזְנֶיךָ קַשֻּׁבוֹת לְקוֹל תַּחֲנוּנָי׃

Adonai shim'a vekoli, tihyena oznecha kashuvot lekol tachanunai.

Lord, hear my voice. Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.

אִם־עֲוֺנוֹת תִּשְׁמָר־יָהּ אֲדֹנָי מִי יַעֲמֹד׃

Im avonot tishmor Yah, Adonai mi ya'amod.

If You, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?

כִּי־עִמְּךָ הַסְּלִיחָה לְמַעַן תִּוָּרֵא׃

Ki imcha haslicha lema'an tivare.

But with You there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve You.

קִוִּיתִי יְהוָה קִוְּתָה נַפְשִׁי וְלִדְבָרוֹ הוֹחָלְתִּי׃

Kiviti Adonai kivta nafshi, velidvaro hochalti.

I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope.

נַפְשִׁי לַאדֹנָי מִשֹּׁמְרִים לַבֹּקֶר שֹׁמְרִים לַבֹּקֶר׃

Nafshi laAdonai, mishomrim laboker, shomrim laboker.

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

יַחֵל יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל־יְהוָה כִּי־עִם־יְהוָה הַחֶסֶד וְהַרְבֵּה עִמּוֹ פְדוּת׃

Yachel Yisrael el Adonai, ki im Adonai hachesed veharbeh imo fedut.

Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.

וְהוּא יִפְדֶּה אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל מִכֹּל עֲוֺנֹתָיו׃

Vehu yifdeh et Yisrael mikol avonotav.

He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.
