תהילים 71-80

בְּךָ יְהוָה חָסִיתִי אַל־אֵבוֹשָׁה לְעוֹלָם׃

Becha Adonai chasiti, al evoosha le'olam.

In You, O LORD, I seek refuge; may I never be disappointed.

בְּצִדְקָתְךָ תַּצִּילֵנִי וּתְפַלְּטֵנִי הַטֵּה־אֵלַי אָזְנְךָ וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי׃

Betzidkatcha tatzileni utefalteni, hate elai oznecha vehoshi'eni.

By Your righteousness rescue me and save me; incline Your ear to me and deliver me.

הֱיֵה לִי לְצוּר מָעוֹן לָבוֹא תָּמִיד צִוִּיתָ לְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי כִּי־סַלְעִי וּמְצוּדָתִי אָתָּה׃

Heye li letzur ma'on lavo tamid, tzivita lehoshi'eni, ki sal'i umetzudati Ata.

Be a sheltering rock for me to which I may always come; decree my deliverance, for You are my rock and my fortress.

אֱלֹהַי פַּלְּטֵנִי מִיַּד רָשָׁע מִכַּף מְעַוֵּל וְחוֹמֵץ׃

Elohai palteni miyad rasha, mikaf me'avel vechometz.

My God, rescue me from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and the lawless.

כִּי־אַתָּה תִקְוָתִי אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה מִבְטַחִי מִנְּעוּרָי׃

Ki Ata tikvati Adonai Elohim, mivtachi mine'urai.

For You are my hope, O Lord GOD, my trust from my youth.

עָלֶיךָ נִסְמַכְתִּי מִבֶּטֶן מִמְּעֵי אִמִּי אַתָּה גוֹזִי בְּךָ תְהִלָּתִי תָמִיד׃

Alecha nismachti mibeten, mimme'ei imi Ata gozi, becha tehilati tamid.

I have leaned on You from birth; it was You who took me from my mother's womb; my praise is ever of You.

כְּמוֹפֵת הָיִיתִי לְרַבִּים וְאַתָּה מַחֲסִי־עֹז׃

Kemofet hayiti lerabim, ve'Ata machasi oz.

I have become an example for many, since You are my mighty refuge.

יִמָּלֵא פִי תְּהִלָּתֶךָ כָּל־הַיּוֹם תִּפְאַרְתֶּךָ׃

Yimale fi tehilatecha, kol hayom tif'artecha.

My mouth is full of praise to You, glorifying You all day long.

אַל־תַּשְׁלִיכֵנִי לְעֵת זִקְנָה כִּכְלוֹת כֹּחִי אַל־תַּעַזְבֵנִי׃

Al tashlicheni le'et zikna, kichlot kochi al ta'azveni.

Do not cast me off in old age; when my strength fails, do not forsake me.

כִּי־אָמְרוּ אוֹיְבַי לִי וְשֹׁמְרֵי נַפְשִׁי נוֹעֲצוּ יַחְדָּו׃

Ki amru oyvai li, veshomrei nafshi no'atzu yachdav.

For my enemies talk against me; those who watch for my life plot together.

לֵאמֹר אֱלֹהִים עֲזָבוֹ רִדְפוּ וְתִפְשׂוּהוּ כִּי־אֵין מַצִּיל׃

Lemor Elohim azavo, ridfu vetifsuhu ki ein matzil.

They say, 'God has forsaken him; chase him and catch him, for no one will save him.'

אֱלֹהִים אַל־תִּרְחַק מִמֶּנִּי אֱלֹהַי לְעֶזְרָתִי חוּשָׁה׃

Elohim al tirchak mimeni, Elohai le'ezrati chusha.

O God, be not far from me; my God, hasten to my aid.

יֵבֹשׁוּ יִכְלוּ שֹׂטְנֵי נַפְשִׁי יַעֲטוּ חֶרְפָּה וּכְלִמָּה מְבַקְשֵׁי רָעָתִי׃

Yevoshu yichlu sotnei nafshi, ya'atu cherpa uchlima mevakshei ra'ati.

Let my accusers perish in frustration; let those who seek my ruin be covered with reproach and disgrace.

וַאֲנִי תָּמִיד אֲיַחֵל וְהוֹסַפְתִּי עַל־כָּל־תְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃

Va'ani tamid ayachel, vehosafti al kol tehilatecha.

As for me, I will hope always, and add to all Your praises.

פִּי יְסַפֵּר צִדְקָתֶךָ כָּל־הַיּוֹם תְּשׁוּעָתֶךָ כִּי לֹא יָדַעְתִּי סְפֹרוֹת׃

Pi yesaper tzidkatecha, kol hayom teshu'atecha, ki lo yadati seforot.

My mouth tells of Your beneficence, of Your deliverance all day long, though I know not how to tell it.

אָבוֹא בִּגְבֻרוֹת אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה אַזְכִּיר צִדְקָתְךָ לְבַדֶּךָ׃

Avo bigvurot Adonai Elohim, azkir tzidkatcha levadecha.

I come with praise of Your mighty acts, O Lord GOD; I mention Your beneficence, Yours alone.

אֱלֹהִים לִמַּדְתַּנִי מִנְּעוּרָי וְעַד־הֵנָּה אַגִּיד נִפְלְאוֹתֶיךָ׃

Elohim limadtani mine'urai, ve'ad hena agid nifl'otecha.

O God, You have taught me from my youth, and until now I have proclaimed Your wondrous deeds.

וְגַם עַד־זִקְנָה וְשֵׂיבָה אֱלֹהִים אַל־תַּעַזְבֵנִי עַד־אַגִּיד זְרוֹעֲךָ לְדוֹר לְכָל־יָבוֹא גְּבוּרָתֶךָ׃

Vegam ad zikna veseiva Elohim al ta'azveni, ad agid zero'acha ledor, lechol yavo gevuratecha.

And even in hoary old age do not forsake me, O God, until I proclaim Your strength to the next generation, Your mighty acts, to all who are to come.

וְצִדְקָתְךָ אֱלֹהִים עַד־מָרוֹם אֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂיתָ גְדֹלוֹת אֱלֹהִים מִי כָמוֹךָ׃

Vetzidkatcha Elohim ad marom, asher asita gedolot, Elohim mi chamocha.

Your righteousness, O God, is very high, You who have done great things; O God, who is like You?

אֲשֶׁר הִרְאִיתָנוּ צָרוֹת רַבּוֹת וְרָעוֹת תָּשׁוּב תְּחַיֵּנוּ וּמִתְּהֹמוֹת הָאָרֶץ תָּשׁוּב תַּעֲלֵנוּ׃

Asher hir'itanu tzarot rabot vera'ot, tashuv techayenu, umitehomot ha'aretz tashuv ta'alenu.

You who have made me undergo many troubles and misfortunes will revive me again, and raise me up from the depths of the earth.

תֶּרֶב גְּדֻלָּתִי וְתִסֹּב תְּנַחֲמֵנִי׃

Terev gedulati vetisov tenachameni.

You will grant me much greatness, You will turn and comfort me.

גַּם־אֲנִי אוֹדְךָ בִכְלִי־נֶבֶל אֲמִתְּךָ אֱלֹהָי אֲזַמְּרָה לְךָ בְכִנּוֹר קְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Gam ani odcha vichli nevel amitcha Elohai, azamera lecha vechinor Kedosh Yisrael.

I too will praise You with the lyre for Your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing hymns to You with the harp, O Holy One of Israel.

תְּרַנֵּנָּה שְׂפָתַי כִּי אֲזַמְּרָה־לָּךְ וְנַפְשִׁי אֲשֶׁר פָּדִיתָ׃

Teranena sefatai ki azamera lach, venafshi asher padita.

My lips shall be jubilant, as I sing hymns to You, my whole being, which You have redeemed.

גַּם־לְשׁוֹנִי כָּל־הַיּוֹם תֶּהְגֶּה צִדְקָתֶךָ כִּי־בֹשׁוּ כִי־חָפְרוּ מְבַקְשֵׁי רָעָתִי׃

Gam leshoni kol hayom tehge tzidkatecha, ki voshu ki chafru mevakshei ra'ati.

All day long my tongue shall recite Your beneficent acts, for those who seek my ruin shall be frustrated and disgraced.

לִשְׁלֹמֹה אֱלֹהִים מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ לְמֶלֶךְ תֵּן וְצִדְקָתְךָ לְבֶן־מֶלֶךְ׃

Lishlomo Elohim mishpatecha lemelech ten, vetzidkatcha leven melech.

Of Solomon. O God, endow the king with Your judgments, the king's son with Your righteousness;

יָדִין עַמְּךָ בְצֶדֶק וַעֲנִיֶּיךָ בְמִשְׁפָּט׃

Yadin amcha vetzedek, va'aniyecha vemishpat.

that he may judge Your people rightly, Your lowly ones, justly.

יִשְׂאוּ הָרִים שָׁלוֹם לָעָם וּגְבָעוֹת בִּצְדָקָה׃

Yis'u harim shalom la'am, ugva'ot bitzedaka.

Let the mountains produce peace for the people, the hills, the reward of righteousness.

יִשְׁפֹּט עֲנִיֵּי־עָם יוֹשִׁיעַ לִבְנֵי אֶבְיוֹן וִידַכֵּא עוֹשֵׁק׃

Yishpot aniyei am yoshi'a livnei evyon, vidake oshek.

Let him champion the lowly among the people, save the needy folk, and crush those who wrong them.

יִירָאוּךָ עִם־שָׁמֶשׁ וְלִפְנֵי יָרֵחַ דּוֹר דּוֹרִים׃

Yira'ucha im shemesh, velifnei yare'ach dor dorim.

Let them fear You as long as the sun shines, while the moon lasts, generations on end.

יֵרֵד כְּמָטָר עַל־גֵּז כִּרְבִיבִים זַרְזִיף אָרֶץ׃

Yered kematar al gez, kirvivim zarzif aretz.

Let him be like rain that falls on a mown field, like a downpour of rain on the ground,

יִפְרַח־בְּיָמָיו צַדִּיק וְרֹב שָׁלוֹם עַד־בְּלִי יָרֵחַ׃

Yifrach beyamav tzadik, verov shalom ad bli yare'ach.

that the righteous may flourish in his time, and well-being abound, till the moon is no more.

וְיֵרְדְּ מִיָּם עַד־יָם וּמִנָּהָר עַד־אַפְסֵי־אָרֶץ׃

Veyerd miyam ad yam, umnahar ad afsei aretz.

Let him rule from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth.

לְפָנָיו יִכְרְעוּ צִיִּים וְאֹיְבָיו עָפָר יְלַחֵכוּ׃

Lefanav yichre'u tziyim, ve'oyvav afar yelichechu.

Let desert-dwellers kneel before him, and his enemies lick the dust.

מַלְכֵי תַרְשִׁישׁ וְאִיִּים מִנְחָה יָשִׁיבוּ מַלְכֵי שְׁבָא וּסְבָא אֶשְׁכָּר יַקְרִיבוּ׃

Malchei Tarshish ve'iyim mincha yashivu, malchei Sheva uSeva eshkar yakrivu.

Let the kings of Tarshish and the islands pay tribute, the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.

וְיִשְׁתַּחֲווּ־לוֹ כָל־מְלָכִים כָּל־גּוֹיִם יַעַבְדוּהוּ׃

Veyishtachavu lo kol melachim, kol goyim ya'avduhu.

Let all kings bow to him, and all nations serve him.

כִּי־יַצִּיל אֶבְיוֹן מְשַׁוֵּעַ וְעָנִי וְאֵין־עֹזֵר לוֹ׃

Ki yatzil evyon meshave'a, ve'ani ve'ein ozer lo.

For he saves the needy who cry out, the lowly who have no helper.

יָחֹס עַל־דַּל וְאֶבְיוֹן וְנַפְשׁוֹת אֶבְיוֹנִים יוֹשִׁיעַ׃

Yachos al dal ve'evyon, venafshot evyonim yoshi'a.

He cares about the poor and the needy; He brings the needy deliverance.

מִתּוֹךְ וּמֵחָמָס יִגְאַל נַפְשָׁם וְיֵיקַר דָּמָם בְּעֵינָיו׃

Mitoch umechamas yig'al nafsham, veyekar damam be'einav.

He redeems them from fraud and lawlessness; their blood is precious in his sight.

וִיחִי וְיִתֶּן־לוֹ מִזְּהַב שְׁבָא וְיִתְפַּלֵּל בַּעֲדוֹ תָמִיד כָּל־הַיּוֹם יְבָרֲכֶנְהוּ׃

Vichi veyiten lo mizehav Sheva, veyitpalel ba'ado tamid, kol hayom yevarachenhu.

So let him live, and receive gold of Sheba; let prayers for him be said always, blessings on him invoked at all times.

יְהִי פִסַּת־בַּר בָּאָרֶץ בְּרֹאשׁ הָרִים יִרְעַשׁ כַּלְּבָנוֹן פִּרְיוֹ וְיָצִיצוּ מֵעִיר כְּעֵשֶׂב הָאָרֶץ׃

Yehi fisat bar ba'aretz berosh harim, yir'ash kaLevanon piryo, veyatzitzu me'ir ke'esev ha'aretz.

Let abundant grain be in the land, to the tops of the mountains; let his crops wave like the forests of Lebanon; and let people bloom from the city like the grass of the land.

יְהִי שְׁמוֹ לְעוֹלָם לִפְנֵי־שֶׁמֶשׁ יִנּוֹן שְׁמוֹ וְיִתְבָּרְכוּ בוֹ כָּל־גּוֹיִם יְאַשְּׁרוּהוּ׃

Yehi shemo le'olam, lifnei shemesh yinon shemo, veyitbarchu vo kol goyim ye'ashruhu.

May his name endure forever, his fame increase as long as the sun shines; let men invoke his blessedness upon themselves; let all nations count him happy.

בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עֹשֵׂה נִפְלָאוֹת לְבַדּוֹ׃

Baruch Adonai Elohim Elohei Yisrael, ose nifl'aot levado.

Blessed is the LORD God, God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things;

וּבָרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹדוֹ לְעוֹלָם וְיִמָּלֵא כְבוֹדוֹ אֶת־כָּל־הָאָרֶץ אָמֵן וְאָמֵן׃

Uvaruch shem kevodo le'olam, veyimale chevodo et kol ha'aretz, amen ve'amen.

Blessed is His glorious name forever; His glory fills the whole world. Amen and Amen.

כָּלּוּ תְפִלּוֹת דָּוִד בֶּן־יִשָׁי׃

מִזְמוֹר לְאָסָף אַךְ טוֹב לְיִשְׂרָאֵל אֱלֹהִים לְבָרֵי לֵבָב׃

Mizmor le'Asaf, ach tov leYisrael Elohim, levarei levav.

A psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, to those whose heart is pure.

וַאֲנִי כִּמְעַט נָטָיוּ רַגְלָי כְּאַיִן שֻׁפְּכוּ אֲשֻׁרָי׃

Va'ani kim'at natayu raglai, ke'ayin shupchu ashurai.

As for me, my feet had almost strayed, my steps were nearly led off course,

כִּי־קִנֵּאתִי בַּהוֹלְלִים שְׁלוֹם רְשָׁעִים אֶרְאֶה׃

Ki kineiti bahollelim, shalom resha'im er'e.

for I envied the wanton; I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

כִּי אֵין חַרְצֻבּוֹת לְמוֹתָם וּבָרִיא אוּלָם׃

Ki ein chartzubot lemotam, uvari ulam.

Death has no pangs for them; their body is healthy.

בַּעֲמַל אֱנוֹשׁ אֵינֵמוֹ וְעִם־אָדָם לֹא יְנֻגָּעוּ׃

Ba'amal enosh einemo, ve'im adam lo yenuga'u.

They have no part in the travail of men; they are not afflicted like the rest of mankind.

לָכֵן עֲנָקַתְמוֹ גַאֲוָה יַעֲטָף־שִׁית חָמָס לָמוֹ׃

Lachen anakatmo ga'ava, ya'atof shit chamas lamo.

So pride adorns their necks, lawlessness enwraps them as a mantle.

יָצָא מֵחֵלֶב עֵינֵמוֹ עָבְרוּ מַשְׂכִּיּוֹת לֵבָב׃

Yatza mechelev einemo, avru maskiyot levav.

Fat shuts out their eyes; their fancies are extravagant.

יָמִיקוּ וִידַבְּרוּ בְרָע עֹשֶׁק מִמָּרוֹם יְדַבֵּרוּ׃

Yamiku vidabru vera, oshek mimarom yedaberu.

They scoff and plan evil; from their eminence they plan wrongdoing.

שַׁתּוּ בַשָּׁמַיִם פִּיהֶם וּלְשׁוֹנָם תִּהֲלַךְ בָּאָרֶץ׃

Shatu vashamayim pihem, uleshona tihalach ba'aretz.

They set their mouths against heaven, and their tongues range over the earth.

לָכֵן יָשׁוּב עַמּוֹ הֲלֹם וּמֵי מָלֵא יִמָּצוּ לָמוֹ׃

Lachen yashuv amo halom, umei male yimatzu lamo.

So they pound His people relentlessly, and find much profit.

וְאָמְרוּ אֵיכָה יָדַע־אֵל וְיֵשׁ דֵּעָה בְעֶלְיוֹן׃

Ve'amru eicha yada El, veyesh de'a ve'Elyon.

And they say, 'How could God know? Is there knowledge with the Most High?'

הִנֵּה־אֵלֶּה רְשָׁעִים וְשַׁלְוֵי עוֹלָם הִשְׂגּוּ־חָיִל׃

Hine ele resha'im veshalvei olam hisgu chayil.

Such are the wicked; ever tranquil, they amass wealth.

אַךְ־רִיק זִכִּיתִי לְבָבִי וָאֶרְחַץ בְּנִקָּיוֹן כַּפָּי׃

Ach rik zikiti levavi, va'erchatz benikyon kapai.

It was for nothing that I kept my heart pure and washed my hands in innocence,

וָאֱהִי נָגוּעַ כָּל־הַיּוֹם וְתוֹכַחְתִּי לַבְּקָרִים׃

Va'ehi nagua kol hayom, vetochachti labekarim.

seeing that I have been constantly afflicted, that each morning brings new punishments.

אִם־אָמַרְתִּי אֲסַפְּרָה כְמוֹ הִנֵּה דוֹר בָּנֶיךָ בָגָדְתִּי׃

Im amarti asapra chemo, hine dor banecha vagadti.

Had I decided to say these things, I should have been false to the circle of Your disciples.

וָאֲחַשְּׁבָה לָדַעַת זֹאת עָמָל הִיא בְעֵינָי׃

Va'achashva lada'at zot, amal hi be'einai.

So I applied myself to understand this, but it seemed a hopeless task

עַד־אָבוֹא אֶל־מִקְדְּשֵׁי־אֵל אָבִינָה לְאַחֲרִיתָם׃

Ad avo el mikdeshei El, avina le'acharitam.

till I entered God's sanctuary and reflected on their fate.

אַךְ בַּחֲלָקוֹת תָּשִׁית לָמוֹ הִפַּלְתָּם לְמַשׁוּאוֹת׃

Ach bachalakot tashit lamo, hipaltam lemashu'ot.

You surround them with flattery, You make them fall through blandishments.

אֵיךְ הָיוּ לְשַׁמָּה כְרָגַע סָפוּ תַמּוּ מִן־בַּלָּהוֹת׃

Eich hayu leshama cheraga, safu tamu min balahot.

How suddenly are they ruined, wholly swept away by terrors.

כַּחֲלוֹם מֵהָקִיץ אֲדֹנָי בָּעִיר צַלְמָם תִּבְזֶה׃

Kachalom mehakitz Adonai, ba'ir tzalmam tivze.

When You are aroused You despise their image, as one does a dream after waking, O Lord.

כִּי יִתְחַמֵּץ לְבָבִי וְכִלְיוֹתַי אֶשְׁתּוֹנָן׃

Ki yitchametz levavi, vechilyotai eshtona.

My mind was embittered and my feelings were shattered;

וַאֲנִי־בַעַר וְלֹא אֵדָע בְּהֵמוֹת הָיִיתִי עִמָּךְ׃

Va'ani va'ar velo eda, behemot hayiti imach.

I was a dolt, without knowledge; I was brutish toward You.

וַאֲנִי תָמִיד עִמָּךְ אָחַזְתָּ בְּיַד־יְמִינִי׃

Va'ani tamid imach, achazta beyad yemini.

Yet I was always with You, You held my right hand;

בַּעֲצָתְךָ תַנְחֵנִי וְאַחַר כָּבוֹד תִּקָּחֵנִי׃

Ba'atzatcha tancheni, ve'achar kavod tikacheni.

You guided me by Your counsel and led me toward honor.

מִי־לִי בַשָּׁמָיִם וְעִמְּךָ לֹא־חָפַצְתִּי בָאָרֶץ׃

Mi li vashamayim, ve'imcha lo chafatzti va'aretz.

Whom have I in heaven but You? And having You, I want no one on earth.

כָּלָה שְׁאֵרִי וּלְבָבִי צוּר־לְבָבִי וְחֶלְקִי אֱלֹהִים לְעוֹלָם׃

Kala she'eri ulevavi, tzur levavi vechelki Elohim le'olam.

My body and mind fail; but God is the stay of my mind, my portion forever.

כִּי־הִנֵּה רְחֵקֶיךָ יֹאבֵדוּ הִצְמַתָּה כָּל־זוֹנֶה מִמֶּךָּ׃

Ki hine rechekeicha yovedu, hitzmata kol zone mimeka.

Those who keep far from You perish; You annihilate all who are untrue to You.

וַאֲנִי קִרֲבַת אֱלֹהִים לִי־טוֹב שַׁתִּי בַּאדֹנָי יְהוִה מַחְסִי לְסַפֵּר כָּל־מַלְאֲכוֹתֶיךָ׃

Va'ani kirvat Elohim li tov, shati baAdonai Elohim machsi, lesaper kol mala'chotecha.

As for me, nearness to God is good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may recount all Your works.

מַשְׂכִּיל לְאָסָף לָמָה אֱלֹהִים זָנַחְתָּ לָנֶצַח יֶעְשַׁן אַפְּךָ בְּצֹאן מַרְעִיתֶךָ׃

Maskil le'Asaf, lama Elohim zanachta lanetzach, ye'eshan apcha betzon mar'itecha.

A maskil of Asaph. Why, O God, do You forever reject us, do You fume in anger at the flock that You tend?

זְכֹר עֲדָתְךָ קָנִיתָ קֶּדֶם גָּאַלְתָּ שֵׁבֶט נַחֲלָתֶךָ הַר־צִיּוֹן זֶה שָׁכַנְתָּ בּוֹ׃

Zechor adatcha kanita kedem, gaalta shevet nachalatecha, har Tziyon ze shachanta bo.

Remember the community You made Yours long ago, Your very own tribe that You redeemed, Mount Zion, where You dwell.

הָרִימָה פְעָמֶיךָ לְמַשֻּׁאוֹת נֶצַח כָּל־הֵרַע אוֹיֵב בַּקֹּדֶשׁ׃

Harima fe'amecha lemashu'ot netzach, kol hera oyev bakodesh.

Bestir Yourself because of the perpetual tumult, all the outrages of the enemy in the sanctuary.

שָׁאֲגוּ צֹרְרֶיךָ בְּקֶרֶב מוֹעֲדֶךָ שָׂמוּ אוֹתֹתָם אֹתוֹת׃

Sha'agu tzorecha bekerev mo'adecha, samu ototam otot.

Your foes roar inside Your meeting-place; they take their signs for true signs.

יִוָּדַע כְּמֵבִיא לְמָעְלָה בִּסְבָךְ־עֵץ קַרְדֻּמּוֹת׃

Yivada kemevi lema'la bisvach etz kardumot.

It is like being deep in a forest where axes are swung;

וְעַתָּה פִּתּוּחֶיהָ יַחַד בְּכַשִּׁיל וְכֵילַפּוֹת יַהֲלֹמוּן׃

Ve'ata pitucheiha yachad bechashil vucheilapot yahalomun.

With hatchet and ax they hacked away at its carved work.

שִׁלְחוּ בָאֵשׁ מִקְדָּשֶׁךָ לָאָרֶץ חִלְּלוּ מִשְׁכַּן־שְׁמֶךָ׃

Shilchu va'esh mikdashecha, la'aretz chilelu mishkan shemecha.

They made Your sanctuary go up in flames; they brought low in dishonor the dwelling-place of Your presence.

אָמְרוּ בְלִבָּם נִינָם יָחַד שָׂרְפוּ כָל־מוֹעֲדֵי־אֵל בָּאָרֶץ׃

Amru velibam ninam yachad, sarfu kol mo'adei El ba'aretz.

They resolved, 'Let us destroy them altogether!' They burned all God's tabernacles in the land.

אוֹתֹתֵינוּ לֹא רָאִינוּ אֵין־עוֹד נָבִיא וְלֹא־אִתָּנוּ יֹדֵעַ עַד־מָה׃

Ototenu lo ra'inu, ein od navi, velo itanu yode'a ad ma.

No signs appear for us; there is no longer any prophet; no one among us knows for how long.

עַד־מָתַי אֱלֹהִים יְחָרֶף צָר יְנָאֵץ אוֹיֵב שִׁמְךָ לָנֶצַח׃

Ad matai Elohim yecharef tzar, yena'etz oyev shimcha lanetzach.

Till when, O God, will the foe blaspheme, will the enemy forever revile Your name?

לָמָּה תָשִׁיב יָדְךָ וִימִינֶךָ מִקֶּרֶב חֵיקְךָ כַלֵּה׃

Lama tashiv yadcha viminecha mikerev cheikcha chale.

Why do You hold back Your hand, Your right hand? Draw it out of Your bosom!

וֵאלֹהִים מַלְכִּי מִקֶּדֶם פֹּעֵל יְשׁוּעוֹת בְּקֶרֶב הָאָרֶץ׃

VElohim malki mikedem, po'el yeshu'ot bekerev ha'aretz.

O God, my king from of old, who brings deliverance throughout the land;

אַתָּה פוֹרַרְתָּ בְעָזְּךָ יָם שִׁבַּרְתָּ רָאשֵׁי תַנִּינִים עַל־הַמָּיִם׃

Ata forarta ve'ozcha yam, shibarta rashei taninim al hamayim.

it was You who drove back the sea with Your might, who smashed the heads of the monsters in the waters;

אַתָּה רִצַּצְתָּ רָאשֵׁי לִוְיָתָן תִּתְּנֶנּוּ מַאֲכָל לְעָם לְצִיִּים׃

Ata ritzatzta rashei Livyatan, titnennu ma'achal le'am letziyim.

it was You who crushed the heads of Leviathan, who left him as food for the denizens of the desert;

אַתָּה בָקַעְתָּ מַעְיָן וָנָחַל אַתָּה הוֹבַשְׁתָּ נַהֲרוֹת אֵיתָן׃

Ata vaka'ta ma'yan vanachal, Ata hovashta naharot eitan.

it was You who released springs and torrents, who made mighty rivers run dry;

לְךָ יוֹם אַף־לְךָ לָיְלָה אַתָּה הֲכִינוֹתָ מָאוֹר וָשָׁמֶשׁ׃

Lecha yom af lecha layla, Ata hachinota ma'or vashemesh.

the day is Yours, the night also; it was You who set in place the orb of the sun;

אַתָּה הִצַּבְתָּ כָּל־גְּבוּלוֹת אָרֶץ קַיִץ וָחֹרֶף אַתָּה יְצַרְתָּם׃

Ata hitzavta kol gevulot aretz, kayitz vachoref Ata yetzartam.

You fixed all the boundaries of the earth; summer and winter—You made them.

זְכָר־זֹאת אוֹיֵב חֵרֵף יְהוָה וְעַם נָבָל נִאֲצוּ שְׁמֶךָ׃

Zechar zot oyev cheref Adonai, ve'am naval ni'atzu shemecha.

Remember how the enemy blasphemed the LORD, how base people reviled Your name.

אַל־תִּתֵּן לְחַיַּת נֶפֶשׁ תּוֹרֶךָ חַיַּת עֲנִיֶּיךָ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּח לָנֶצַח׃

Al titen lechayat nefesh torecha, chayat aniyecha al tishkach lanetzach.

Do not deliver Your dove to the beast; do not ignore forever the band of Your lowly ones.

הַבֵּט לַבְּרִית כִּי מָלְאוּ מַחֲשַׁכֵּי־אֶרֶץ נְאוֹת חָמָס׃

Habet laberit ki mal'u machashakei eretz ne'ot chamas.

Look to the covenant! For the dark places of the land are full of the haunts of lawlessness.

אַל־יָשֹׁב דַּךְ נִכְלָם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן יְהַלְלוּ שְׁמֶךָ׃

Al yashov dach nichlam, ani ve'evyon yehalelu shemecha.

Let not the downtrodden turn away disappointed; let the poor and needy praise Your name.

קוּמָה אֱלֹהִים רִיבָה רִיבֶךָ זְכֹר חֶרְפָּתְךָ מִנִּי־נָבָל כָּל־הַיּוֹם׃

Kuma Elohim riva rivecha, zechor cherpat'cha mini naval kol hayom.

Rise, O God, champion Your cause; be mindful that You are blasphemed by base men all day long.

אַל־תִּשְׁכַּח קוֹל צֹרְרֶיךָ שְׁאוֹן קָמֶיךָ עֹלֶה תָמִיד׃

Al tishkach kol tzorecha, she'on kamecha ole tamid.

Do not ignore the shouts of Your foes, the din of Your adversaries that ascends all the time.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ אַל־תַּשְׁחֵת מִזְמוֹר לְאָסָף שִׁיר׃

Lamnatzei'ach al tashchet mizmor le'Asaf shir.

For the leader; al tashcheth. A psalm of Asaph, a song.

הוֹדִינוּ לְּךָ אֱלֹהִים הוֹדִינוּ וְקָרוֹב שְׁמֶךָ סִפְּרוּ נִפְלְאוֹתֶיךָ׃

Hodinu lecha Elohim hodinu, vekarov shemecha sipru nifl'otecha.

We praise You, O God; we praise You; Your presence is near; men tell of Your wondrous deeds.

כִּי אֶקַּח מוֹעֵד אֲנִי מֵישָׁרִים אֶשְׁפֹּט׃

Ki ekach mo'ed, ani meisharim eshpot.

At the time I choose, I will give judgment equitably.

נְמֹגִים אֶרֶץ וְכָל־יֹשְׁבֶיהָ אָנֹכִי תִכַּנְתִּי עַמּוּדֶיהָ סֶלָה׃

Nemogim eretz vechol yoshveha, anochi ticanti amudeiha sela.

Earth and all its inhabitants dissolve; it is I who keeps its pillars firm. Selah.

אָמַרְתִּי לַהוֹלְלִים אַל־תָּהֹלּוּ וְלָרְשָׁעִים אַל־תָּרִימוּ קָרֶן׃

Amarti lahollelim al toholu, velaresha'im al tarimu karen.

I said to the wanton, 'Do not be wanton!' to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns!'

אַל־תָּרִימוּ לַמָּרוֹם קַרְנְכֶם תְּדַבְּרוּ בְצַוָּאר עָתָק׃

Al tarimu lamarom karneichem, tedabru vetzavar atak.

'Do not lift your horns on high in vainglorious bluster.'

כִּי לֹא מִמּוֹצָא וּמִמַּעֲרָב וְלֹא מִמִּדְבַּר הָרִים׃

Ki lo mimotza umima'arav, velo mimidbar harim.

For what lifts a man comes not from the east or the west or the wilderness;

כִּי־אֱלֹהִים שֹׁפֵט זֶה יַשְׁפִּיל וְזֶה יָרִים׃

Ki Elohim shofet, ze yashpil veze yarim.

for God it is who gives judgment; He brings down one man, He lifts up another.

כִּי כוֹס בְּיַד־יְהוָה וְיַיִן חָמַר מָלֵא מֶסֶךְ וַיַּגֵּר מִזֶּה אַךְ־שְׁמָרֶיהָ יִמְצוּ יִשְׁתּוּ כֹּל רִשְׁעֵי־אָרֶץ׃

Ki chos beyad Adonai veyayin chamar male mesech vayager mize, ach shemareiha yimtzu yishtu kol rish'ei aretz.

There is a cup in the LORD's hand with foaming wine fully mixed; from this He pours; all the wicked of the earth drink, draining it to the dregs.

וַאֲנִי אַגִּיד לְעֹלָם אֲזַמְּרָה לֵאלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב׃

Va'ani agid le'olam, azamera lElohei Ya'akov.

As for me, I will declare forever, I will sing a hymn to the God of Jacob.

וְכָל־קַרְנֵי רְשָׁעִים אֲגַדֵּעַ תְּרוֹמַמְנָה קַרְנוֹת צַדִּיק׃

Vechol karnei resha'im agade'a, teromamna karnot tzadik.

'All the horns of the wicked I will cut; but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.'

לַמְנַצֵּחַ בִּנְגִינֹת מִזְמוֹר לְאָסָף שִׁיר׃

Lamnatzei'ach binginot mizmor le'Asaf shir.

נוֹדָע בִּיהוּדָה אֱלֹהִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּדוֹל שְׁמוֹ׃

Noda biYhuda Elohim, beYisrael gadol shemo.

God has made Himself known in Judah, His name is great in Israel;

וַיְהִי בְשָׁלֵם סֻכּוֹ וּמְעוֹנָתוֹ בְצִיּוֹן׃

Vayehi veShalem suko, ume'onato veTziyon.

Salem became His abode; Zion, His den.

שָׁמָּה שִׁבַּר רִשְׁפֵי־קָשֶׁת מָגֵן וְחֶרֶב וּמִלְחָמָה סֶלָה׃

Shama shibar rishfei kashet, magen vecherev umilchama sela.

There He broke the fiery arrows of the bow, the shield and sword of war. Selah.

נָאוֹר אַתָּה אַדִּיר מֵהַרְרֵי־טָרֶף׃

Na'or Ata adir meharerei taref.

You are resplendent, mightier than the mountains of prey.

אֶשְׁתּוֹלְלוּ אַבִּירֵי לֵב נָמוּ שְׁנָתָם וְלֹא־מָצְאוּ כָל־אַנְשֵׁי־חַיִל יְדֵיהֶם׃

Eshtolelu abirei lev, namu shenatam, velo matze'u chol anshei chayil yedeihem.

The stout-hearted were despoiled; they fell into a trance; the warriors could not lift a hand.

מִגַּעֲרָתְךָ אֱלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב נִרְדָּם וְרֶכֶב וָסוּס׃

Miga'aratcha Elohei Ya'akov nirdam verechev vasus.

At Your blast, O God of Jacob, horse and chariot lay stunned.

אַתָּה נוֹרָא אַתָּה וּמִי־יַעֲמֹד לְפָנֶיךָ מֵאָז אַפֶּךָ׃

Ata nora Ata, umi ya'amod lefanecha me'az apecha.

O You! You are awesome! Who can stand before You when You are enraged?

מִשָּׁמַיִם הִשְׁמַעְתָּ דִּין אֶרֶץ יָרְאָה וְשָׁקָטָה׃

Mishamayim hishma'ta din, eretz yar'a veshakta.

From heaven You pronounced sentence; the earth was terrified and still

בְּקוּם־לַמִּשְׁפָּט אֱלֹהִים לְהוֹשִׁיעַ כָּל־עַנְוֵי־אֶרֶץ סֶלָה׃

Bekum lamishpat Elohim, lehoshi'a kol anvei eretz sela.

when God rose to execute judgment, to deliver all the lowly of the earth. Selah.

כִּי־חֲמַת אָדָם תּוֹדֶךָּ שְׁאֵרִית חֵמֹת תַּחְגֹּר׃

Ki chamat adam todeka, she'erit chemot tachgor.

The fiercest of men shall acknowledge You; You surround Yourself with those who survived fury.

נִדְרוּ וְשַׁלְּמוּ לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם כָּל־סְבִיבָיו יוֹבִילוּ שַׁי לַמּוֹרָא׃

Nidru veshalmu laAdonai Eloheichem, kol sevivav yovilu shai lamora.

Make vows and pay them to the LORD your God; let all who are around Him bring tribute to the Awesome One.

יִבְצֹר רוּחַ נְגִידִים נוֹרָא לְמַלְכֵי־אָרֶץ׃

Yivtzor ru'ach negidim, nora lemalchei aretz.

He humbles princes, inspires awe in the kings of the earth.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־יְדוּתוּן לְאָסָף מִזְמוֹר׃

Lamnatzei'ach al Yedutun le'Asaf mizmor.

קוֹלִי אֶל־אֱלֹהִים וְאֶצְעָקָה קוֹלִי אֶל־אֱלֹהִים וְהַאֲזִין אֵלָי׃

Koli el Elohim ve'etz'aka, koli el Elohim veha'azin elai.

I cry aloud to God; I cry to God that He may give ear to me.

בְּיוֹם צָרָתִי אֲדֹנָי דָּרָשְׁתִּי יָדִי לַיְלָה נִגְּרָה וְלֹא תָפוּג מֵאֲנָה הִנָּחֵם נַפְשִׁי׃

Beyom tzarati Adonai darashti, yadi layla nigra velo tafug, me'ana hinachem nafshi.

In my time of distress I turn to the Lord, with my hand [uplifted]; [my eyes] flow all night without respite; I will not be comforted.

אֶזְכְּרָה אֱלֹהִים וְאֶהֱמָיָה אָשִׂיחָה וְתִתְעַטֵּף רוּחִי סֶלָה׃

Ezk'ra Elohim ve'ehemaya, asicha vetit'atef ruchi sela.

I think of God and moan, I complain, and my spirit fails. Selah.

אָחַזְתָּ שְׁמֻרוֹת עֵינָי נִפְעַמְתִּי וְלֹא אֲדַבֵּר׃

Achazta shmurot einai, nif'amti velo adaber.

You have held my eyes from closing; I am struck dumb, I cannot speak.

חִשַּׁבְתִּי יָמִים מִקֶּדֶם שְׁנוֹת עוֹלָמִים׃

Chishavti yamim mikedem, shenot olamim.

I consider the days of old, the years of ages past.

אֶזְכְּרָה נְגִינָתִי בַּלָּיְלָה עִם־לְבָבִי אָשִׂיחָה וַיְחַפֵּשׂ רוּחִי׃

Ezkera neginati balayla, im levavi asicha vaychapes ruchi.

I recall my hymns at night; in my heart I meditate; and my spirit inquires:

הַלְעוֹלָמִים יִזְנַח אֲדֹנָי וְלֹא־יֹסִיף לִרְצוֹת עוֹד׃

Hale'olamim yiznach Adonai, velo yosif lirtzot od.

Will the Lord reject forever and never again show favor?

הֶאָפֵס לָנֶצַח חַסְדּוֹ גָּמַר אֹמֶר לְדֹר וָדֹר׃

He'afes lanetzach chasdo, gamar omer ledor vador.

Has His faithfulness ceased forever? Will His promise not be fulfilled for all time?

הֲשָׁכַח חַנּוֹת אֵל אִם־קָפַץ בְּאַף רַחֲמָיו סֶלָה׃

Hashachach chanot El, im kafatz be'af rachamav sela.

Has God forgotten how to pity? Has He in anger stifled His compassion? Selah.

וָאֹמַר חַלּוֹתִי הִיא שְׁנוֹת יְמִין עֶלְיוֹן׃

Va'omar chaloti hi, shenot yemin Elyon.

And I say, 'It is my fault that the right hand of the Most High has changed.'

אֶזְכּוֹר מַעַלְלֵי־יָהּ כִּי־אֶזְכְּרָה מִקֶּדֶם פִּלְאֶךָ׃

Ezkor ma'alilei Yah, ki ezkera mikedem pil'echa.

I recall the deeds of the LORD; yes, I recall Your wonders of old;

וְהָגִיתִי בְכָל־פָּעֳלֶךָ וּבַעֲלִילוֹתֶיךָ אָשִׂיחָה׃

Vehagiti bechol pa'olecha, uva'alilotecha asicha.

I meditate on all Your works; I speak of Your acts.

אֱלֹהִים בַּקֹּדֶשׁ דַּרְכֶּךָ מִי־אֵל גָּדוֹל כֵּאלֹהִים׃

Elohim bakodesh darkecha, mi El gadol kElohim.

O God, Your way is through holiness; what god is as great as God?

אַתָּה הָאֵל עֹשֵׂה פֶלֶא הוֹדַעְתָּ בָעַמִּים עֻזֶּךָ׃

Ata ha'El ose fele, hoda'ta va'amim uzecha.

You are the God who works wonders; You have manifested Your strength among the peoples.

גָּאַלְתָּ בִּזְרוֹעַ עַמֶּךָ בְּנֵי־יַעֲקֹב וְיוֹסֵף סֶלָה׃

Gaalta vizro'a amecha, benei Ya'akov veYosef sela.

By Your arm You redeemed Your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

רָאוּךָ מַּיִם אֱלֹהִים רָאוּךָ מַּיִם יָחִילוּ אַף יִרְגְּזוּ תְהֹמוֹת׃

Ra'ucha mayim Elohim, ra'ucha mayim yachilu, af yirgezu tehomot.

The waters saw You, O God, the waters saw You and were convulsed; the very deep quaked as well.

זֹרְמוּ מַיִם עָבוֹת קוֹל נָתְנוּ שְׁחָקִים אַף־חֲצָצֶיךָ יִתְהַלָּכוּ׃

Zormu mayim avot, kol natnu shchakim, af chatzatzecha yithallachu.

Clouds streamed water; the heavens rumbled; Your arrows flew about;

קוֹל רַעַמְךָ בַּגַּלְגַּל הֵאִירוּ בְרָקִים תֵּבֵל רָגְזָה וַתִּרְעַשׁ הָאָרֶץ׃

Kol ra'amcha bagalgal, he'iru verakim tevel, ragza vatir'ash ha'aretz.

Your thunder rumbled like wheels; lightning lit up the world; the earth quaked and trembled.

בַּיָּם דַּרְכֶּךָ וּשְׁבִילְךָ בְּמַיִם רַבִּים וְעִקְּבוֹתֶיךָ לֹא נֹדָעוּ׃

Bayam darkecha, ushvilcha bemayim rabim, ve'ikvotecha lo noda'u.

Your way was through the sea, Your path, through the mighty waters; Your tracks could not be seen.

נָחִיתָ כַצֹּאן עַמֶּךָ בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן׃

Nachita chatzon amecha, beyad Moshe ve'Aharon.

You led Your people like a flock in the care of Moses and Aaron.

מַשְׂכִּיל לְאָסָף הַאֲזִינָה עַמִּי תּוֹרָתִי הַטּוּ אָזְנְכֶם לְאִמְרֵי־פִי׃

Maskil le'Asaf ha'azina ami torati, hatu oznechem le'imrei fi.

A maskil of Asaph. Give ear, my people, to my teaching, turn your ear to what I say.

אֶפְתְּחָה בְמָשָׁל פִּי אַבִּיעָה חִידוֹת מִנִּי־קֶדֶם׃

Eftecha vemashal pi, avi'a chidot mini kedem.

I will expound a theme, hold forth on the lessons of the past,

אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְנוּ וַנֵּדָעֵם וַאֲבוֹתֵינוּ סִפְּרוּ־לָנוּ׃

Asher shamanu vaneda'em, va'avoteinu sipru lanu.

things we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us.

לֹא נְכַחֵד מִבְּנֵיהֶם לְדוֹר אַחֲרוֹן מְסַפְּרִים תְּהִלּוֹת יְהוָה וֶעֱזוּזוֹ וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה׃

Lo nechached mibneihem ledor acharon, mesaprim tehilot Adonai ve'ezuzo venifl'otav asher asa.

We will not withhold them from their children, telling the coming generation the praises of the LORD and His might, and the wonders He performed.

וַיָּקֶם עֵדוּת בְּיַעֲקֹב וְתוֹרָה שָׂם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֶת־אֲבוֹתֵינוּ לְהוֹדִיעָם לִבְנֵיהֶם׃

Vayakem edut beYa'akov, vetora sam beYisrael, asher tziva et avoteinu lehodi'am livneihem.

He established a decree in Jacob, ordained a teaching in Israel, charging our fathers to make them known to their children,

לְמַעַן יֵדְעוּ דּוֹר אַחֲרוֹן בָּנִים יִוָּלֵדוּ יָקֻמוּ וִיסַפְּרוּ לִבְנֵיהֶם׃

Lema'an yed'u dor acharon, banim yivaledu yakumu visapru livneihem.

that a future generation might know—children yet to be born—and in turn tell their children

וְיָשִׂימוּ בֵאלֹהִים כִּסְלָם וְלֹא יִשְׁכְּחוּ מַעַלְלֵי־אֵל וּמִצְוֺתָיו יִנְצֹרוּ׃

Veyasimu vElohim kislam, velo yishkechu ma'alilei El, umitzvotav yintzoru.

that they might put their confidence in God, and not forget God's great deeds, but observe His commandments,

וְלֹא יִהְיוּ כַּאֲבוֹתָם דּוֹר סוֹרֵר וּמֹרֶה דּוֹר לֹא־הֵכִין לִבּוֹ וְלֹא־נֶאֶמְנָה אֶת־אֵל רוּחוֹ׃

Velo yihyu ka'avotam dor sorer umore, dor lo hechin libo, velo ne'emna et El rucho.

and not be like their fathers, a wayward and defiant generation, a generation whose heart was inconstant, whose spirit was not true to God.

בְּנֵי־אֶפְרַיִם נוֹשְׁקֵי רוֹמֵי־קָשֶׁת הָפְכוּ בְּיוֹם קְרָב׃

Benei Efrayim noshkei romei kashet, hafchu beyom kerav.

Like the Ephraimite bowmen who turned tail in the day of battle,

לֹא שָׁמְרוּ בְּרִית אֱלֹהִים וּבְתוֹרָתוֹ מֵאֲנוּ לָלֶכֶת׃

Lo shamru berit Elohim, uvetorato me'anu lalechet.

they did not keep God's covenant, they refused to follow His instruction;

וַיִּשְׁכְּחוּ עֲלִילוֹתָיו וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו אֲשֶׁר הֶרְאָם׃

Vayishkechu alilotav venifl'otav asher her'am.

they forgot His deeds and the wonders that He showed them.

נֶגֶד אֲבוֹתָם עָשָׂה פֶלֶא בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם שְׂדֵה־צֹעַן׃

Neged avotam asa fele, be'eretz Mitzrayim sedeh Tzo'an.

He performed marvels in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, the plain of Zoan.

בָּקַע יָם וַיַּעֲבִירֵם וַיַּצֶּב־מַיִם כְּמוֹ־נֵד׃

Baka yam vaya'avirem, vayatzev mayim kemo ned.

He split the sea and took them through it; He made the waters stand like a wall.

וַיַּנְחֵם בֶּעָנָן יוֹמָם וְכָל־הַלַּיְלָה בְּאוֹר אֵשׁ׃

Vayanchem be'anan yomam, vechol halayla be'or esh.

He led them with a cloud by day, and throughout the night by the light of fire.

יְבַקַּע צֻרִים בַּמִּדְבָּר וַיַּשְׁקְ כִּתְהֹמוֹת רַבָּה׃

Yevaka tzurim bamidbar, vayashk kithomot raba.

He split rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink as if from the great deep.

וַיּוֹצִא נוֹזְלִים מִסָּלַע וַיּוֹרֶד כַּנְּהָרוֹת מָיִם׃

Vayotzi nozlim misala, vayored kaneharot mayim.

He brought forth streams from a rock and made water flow like rivers.

וַיּוֹסִיפוּ עוֹד לַחֲטֹא־לוֹ לַמְרוֹת עֶלְיוֹן בַּצִּיָּה׃

Vayosifu od lachato lo, lamrot Elyon batziya.

But they went on sinning against Him, defying the Most High in the parched land.

וַיְנַסּוּ־אֵל בִּלְבָבָם לִשְׁאָל־אֹכֶל לְנַפְשָׁם׃

Vayenasu El bilvavam, lish'ol ochel lenafsha.

To test God was in their mind when they demanded food for themselves.

וַיְדַבְּרוּ בֵּאלֹהִים אָמְרוּ הֲיוּכַל אֵל לַעֲרֹךְ שֻׁלְחָן בַּמִּדְבָּר׃

Vayedabru bElohim, amru hayuchal El la'aroch shulchan bamidbar.

They spoke against God; they said, 'Can God spread a feast in the wilderness?'

הֵן הִכָּה־צוּר וַיָּזוּבוּ מַיִם וּנְחָלִים יִשְׁטֹפוּ הֲגַם־לֶחֶם יוּכַל תֵּת אִם־יָכִין שְׁאֵר לְעַמּוֹ׃

Hen hika tzur vayazuvu mayim, unechalim yishtofu, hagam lechem yuchal tet, im yachin she'er le'amo.

'True, He struck the rock and waters flowed, streams gushed forth; but can He provide bread? Can He supply His people with meat?'

לָכֵן שָׁמַע יְהוָה וַיִּתְעַבָּר וְאֵשׁ נִשְּׂקָה בְיַעֲקֹב וְגַם־אַף עָלָה בְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Lachen shama Adonai vayit'abar, ve'esh niska veYa'akov, vegam af ala veYisrael.

The LORD heard and was angered; fire broke out against Jacob, anger flared up at Israel,

כִּי לֹא הֶאֱמִינוּ בֵּאלֹהִים וְלֹא בָטְחוּ בִּישׁוּעָתוֹ׃

Ki lo he'eminu bElohim, velo vatchu bishu'ato.

because they did not put their trust in God, did not rely on His deliverance.

וַיְצַו שְׁחָקִים מִמָּעַל וְדַלְתֵי שָׁמַיִם פָּתָח׃

Vayetzav shchakim mima'al, vedaltei shamayim patach.

So He commanded the skies above, He opened the doors of heaven

וַיַּמְטֵר עֲלֵיהֶם מָן לֶאֱכֹל וּדְגַן־שָׁמַיִם נָתַן לָמוֹ׃

Vayamter aleihem man le'echol, udgan shamayim natan lamo.

and rained manna upon them for food, giving them heavenly grain.

לֶחֶם אַבִּירִים אָכַל אִישׁ צֵידָה שָׁלַח לָהֶם לָשֹׂבַע׃

Lechem abirim achal ish, tzeida shalach lahem lasova.

Each man ate the bread of angels; He sent them provision in plenty.

יַסַּע קָדִים בַּשָּׁמָיִם וַיְנַהֵג בְּעֻזּוֹ תֵימָן׃

Yasa kadim bashamayim, vaynaheg be'uzo teiman.

He set the east wind moving through heaven, and drove the south wind by His might.

וַיַּמְטֵר עֲלֵיהֶם כֶּעָפָר שְׁאֵר וּכְחוֹל יַמִּים עוֹף כָּנָף׃

Vayamter aleihem ke'afar she'er, ukechol yamim of kanaf.

He rained meat on them like dust, winged birds like the sands of the sea,

וַיַּפֵּל בְּקֶרֶב מַחֲנֵהוּ סָבִיב לְמִשְׁכְּנֹתָיו׃

Vayapel bekerev machanehu, saviv lemishkenotav.

making them come down inside the camp, around their dwellings.

וַיֹּאכְלוּ וַיִּשְׂבְּעוּ מְאֹד וְתַאֲוָתָם יָבִא לָהֶם׃

Vayochlu vayisbe'u me'od, veta'avatam yavi lahem.

They ate and were well sated; He gave them what they craved.

לֹא־זָרוּ מִתַּאֲוָתָם עוֹד אָכְלָם בְּפִיהֶם׃

Lo zaru mita'avatam, od ochlam befihem.

They had not yet wearied of what they craved, the food was still in their mouths

וְאַף אֱלֹהִים עָלָה בָהֶם וַיַּהֲרֹג בְּמִשְׁמַנֵּיהֶם וּבַחוּרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִכְרִיעַ׃

Ve'af Elohim ala vahem, vayaharog bemishmaneihem, uvachurei Yisrael hichri'a.

when God's anger flared up at them. He slew their sturdiest, struck down the youth of Israel.

בְּכָל־זֹאת חָטְאוּ־עוֹד וְלֹא־הֶאֱמִינוּ בְּנִפְלְאוֹתָיו׃

Bechol zot chat'u od, velo he'eminu benifl'otav.

Despite all this, they went on sinning and had no faith in His wonders.

וַיְכַל־בַּהֶבֶל יְמֵיהֶם וּשְׁנוֹתָם בַּבֶּהָלָה׃

Vaychal bahevel yemeihem, ushnotam babehala.

He made their days vanish like a breath, their years in sudden terror.

אִם־הֲרָגָם וּדְרָשׁוּהוּ וְשָׁבוּ וְשִׁחֲרוּ־אֵל׃

Im haragam udrashuhu, veshavu veshicharu El.

When He struck them, they took note of Him, turned back and sought God.

וַיִּזְכְּרוּ כִּי־אֱלֹהִים צוּרָם וְאֵל עֶלְיוֹן גֹּאֲלָם׃

Vayizk'ru ki Elohim tzuram, ve'El Elyon go'alam.

They remembered that God was their rock, God Most High, their redeemer.

וַיְפַתּוּהוּ בְּפִיהֶם וּבִלְשׁוֹנָם יְכַזְּבוּ־לוֹ׃

Vayefatuhu befihem, uvilshonam yechazevu lo.

Yet they deceived Him with their speech, lied to Him with their words.

וְלִבָּם לֹא־נָכוֹן עִמּוֹ וְלֹא נֶאֶמְנוּ בִּבְרִיתוֹ׃

Velibam lo nachon imo, velo ne'emnu bivrito.

Their hearts were inconstant toward Him; they were untrue to His covenant.

וְהוּא רַחוּם יְכַפֵּר עָוֺן וְלֹא־יַשְׁחִית וְהִרְבָּה לְהָשִׁיב אַפּוֹ וְלֹא־יָעִיר כָּל־חֲמָתוֹ׃

Vehu rachum yechaper avon velo yashchit, vehirba lehashiv apo, velo ya'ir kol chamato.

But He, being merciful, forgave iniquity and would not destroy; He restrained His wrath time and again and did not give full vent to His fury;

וַיִּזְכֹּר כִּי־בָשָׂר הֵמָּה רוּחַ הוֹלֵךְ וְלֹא יָשׁוּב׃

Vayizkor ki vasar hema, ru'ach holech velo yashuv.

for He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breath that does not return.

כַּמָּה יַמְרוּהוּ בַמִּדְבָּר יַעֲצִיבוּהוּ בִּישִׁימוֹן׃

Kama yamruhu bamidbar, ya'atzivuhu bishimon.

How often did they defy Him in the wilderness, did they grieve Him in the wasteland!

וַיָּשׁוּבוּ וַיְנַסּוּ אֵל וּקְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל הִתְווּ׃

Vayashuvu vaynasu El, ukdosh Yisrael hitvu.

Again and again they tested God, vexed the Holy One of Israel.

לֹא־זָכְרוּ אֶת־יָדוֹ יוֹם אֲשֶׁר־פָּדָם מִנִּי־צָר׃

Lo zachru et yado, yom asher padam mini tzar.

They did not remember His strength, or the day He redeemed them from the foe;

אֲשֶׁר־שָׂם בְּמִצְרַיִם אֹתוֹתָיו וּמוֹפְתָיו בִּשְׂדֵה־צֹעַן׃

Asher sam beMitzrayim ototav, umoftav bisdeh Tzo'an.

how He displayed His signs in Egypt, His portents in the plain of Zoan;

וַיַּהֲפֹךְ לְדָם יְאֹרֵיהֶם וְנֹזְלֵיהֶם בַּל־יִשְׁתָּיוּן׃

Vayahafoch ledam ye'oreihem, venozleihem bal yishtayun.

how He turned their rivers into blood, He made their waters undrinkable.

יְשַׁלַּח בָּהֶם עָרֹב וַיֹּאכְלֵם וּצְפַרְדֵּעַ וַתַּשְׁחִיתֵם׃

Yeshalach bahem arov vayochlem, utzefarde'a vataschchitem.

He inflicted upon them swarms of insects to devour them, frogs to destroy them.

וַיִּתֵּן לֶחָסִיל יְבוּלָם וִיגִיעָם לָאַרְבֶּה׃

Vayiten lechasil yevulam, viyi'am la'arbe.

He gave their crops over to grubs, their produce to locusts.

יַהֲרֹג בַּבָּרָד גַּפְנָם וְשִׁקְמוֹתָם בַּחֲנָמַל׃

Yaharog babarad gafnam, veshikmotam bachanamal.

He killed their vines with hail, their sycamores with frost.

וַיַּסְגֵּר לַבָּרָד בְּעִירָם וּמִקְנֵיהֶם לָרְשָׁפִים׃

Vayasger labarad be'iram, umiknehem lareshafim.

He gave their cattle over to hail, their livestock to lightning bolts.

יְשַׁלַּח־בָּם חֲרוֹן אַפּוֹ עֶבְרָה וָזַעַם וְצָרָה מִשְׁלַחַת מַלְאֲכֵי רָעִים׃

Yeshalach bam charon apo, evra vaza'am vetzara, mishalachat mal'achei ra'im.

He inflicted His burning anger upon them, wrath, indignation, trouble, a band of deadly messengers.

יְפַלֵּס נָתִיב לְאַפּוֹ לֹא־חָשַׂךְ מִמָּוֶת נַפְשָׁם וְחַיָּתָם לַדֶּבֶר הִסְגִּיר׃

Yefales nativ le'apo, lo chasach mimavet nafsham, vechayatam ladever hisgir.

He cleared a path for His anger; He did not stop short of slaying them, but gave them over to plague.

וַיַּךְ כָּל־בְּכוֹר בְּמִצְרָיִם רֵאשִׁית אוֹנִים בְּאָהֳלֵי־חָם׃

Vayach kol bechor beMitzrayim, reshit onim be'oholei Cham.

He struck every firstborn in Egypt, the first fruits of their vigor in the tents of Ham.

וַיַּסַּע כַּצֹּאן עַמּוֹ וַיְנַהֲגֵם כַּעֵדֶר בַּמִּדְבָּר׃

Vayasa katzon amo, vaynahagem ka'eder bamidbar.

He set His people moving like sheep, drove them like a flock in the wilderness.

וַיַּנְחֵם לָבֶטַח וְלֹא פָחָדוּ וְאֶת־אוֹיְבֵיהֶם כִּסָּה הַיָּם׃

Vayanchem lavetach velo fachadu, ve'et oyveihem kisa hayam.

He led them in safety; they were unafraid; as for their enemies, the sea covered them.

וַיְבִיאֵם אֶל־גְּבוּל קָדְשׁוֹ הַר־זֶה קָנְתָה יְמִינוֹ׃

Vayevi'em el gevul kodsho, har ze kanta yemino.

He brought them to His holy realm, the mountain His right hand had acquired.

וַיְגָרֶשׁ מִפְּנֵיהֶם גּוֹיִם וַיַּפִּילֵם בְּחֶבֶל נַחֲלָה וַיַּשְׁכֵּן בְּאָהֳלֵיהֶם שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Vaygaresh mipneihem goyim, vayapilem bechevel nachala, vayashken be'oholeihem shivtei Yisrael.

He drove out nations before them; He gave them their lands as a possession; He let the tribes of Israel settle in their tents.

וַיְנַסּוּ וַיַּמְרוּ אֶת־אֱלֹהִים עֶלְיוֹן וְעֵדוֹתָיו לֹא שָׁמָרוּ׃

Vayenasu vayamru et Elohim Elyon, ve'edotav lo shamaru.

Yet they tested God, the Most High, and defied Him; they did not observe His decrees.

וַיִּסֹּגוּ וַיִּבְגְּדוּ כַּאֲבוֹתָם נֶהֶפְכוּ כְּקֶשֶׁת רְמִיָּה׃

Vayisogu vayivgedu ka'avotam, nehefchu kekeshet remiya.

They fell away, faithless like their fathers; they played false like a treacherous bow.

וַיַּכְעִיסוּהוּ בְּבָמוֹתָם וּבִפְסִילֵיהֶם יַקְנִיאוּהוּ׃

Vayach'isuhu bevamotam, uvfisileihem yakni'uhu.

They vexed Him with their high places; they incensed Him with their idols.

שָׁמַע אֱלֹהִים וַיִּתְעַבָּר וַיִּמְאַס מְאֹד בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Shama Elohim vayit'abar, vayim'as me'od beYisrael.

God heard it and was enraged; He utterly rejected Israel.

וַיִּטֹּשׁ מִשְׁכַּן שִׁלוֹ אֹהֶל שִׁכֵּן בָּאָדָם׃

Vayitosh mishkan Shilo, ohel shiken ba'adam.

He forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent He had set among men.

וַיִּתֵּן לַשְּׁבִי עֻזּוֹ וְתִפְאַרְתּוֹ בְיַד־צָר׃

Vayiten lashvi uzo, vetif'arto veyad tzar.

He let His might go into captivity, His glory into the hands of the foe.

וַיַּסְגֵּר לַחֶרֶב עַמּוֹ וּבְנַחֲלָתוֹ הִתְעַבָּר׃

Vayasger lecherev amo, uvenachalato hit'abar.

He gave His people over to the sword; He was enraged at His inheritance.

בַּחוּרָיו אָכְלָה־אֵשׁ וּבְתוּלֹתָיו לֹא הוּלָּלוּ׃

Bachurav achla esh, uvtulotav lo hulalu.

Fire consumed their young men, and their maidens remained unwed.

כֹּהֲנָיו בַּחֶרֶב נָפָלוּ וְאַלְמְנֹתָיו לֹא תִבְכֶּינָה׃

Kohanav becherev nafalu, ve'almnotav lo tivkeina.

Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows could not mourn.

וַיִּקַץ כְּיָשֵׁן אֲדֹנָי כְּגִבּוֹר מִתְרוֹנֵן מִיָּיִן׃

Vayikatz keyashen Adonai, kegibor mitronen miyayin.

The Lord awoke as from sleep, like a warrior shaking off wine.

וַיַּךְ־צָרָיו אָחוֹר חֶרְפַּת עוֹלָם נָתַן לָמוֹ׃

Vayach tzarav achor, cherpat olam natan lamo.

He drove His foes back, dealing them lasting shame.

וַיִּמְאַס בְּאֹהֶל יוֹסֵף וּבְשֵׁבֶט אֶפְרַיִם לֹא בָחָר׃

Vayim'as be'ohel Yosef, uveshevet Efrayim lo vachar.

He rejected the clan of Joseph; He did not choose the tribe of Ephraim,

וַיִּבְחַר אֶת־שֵׁבֶט יְהוּדָה אֶת־הַר צִיּוֹן אֲשֶׁר אָהֵב׃

Vayivchar et shevet Yehuda, et har Tziyon asher ahev.

but chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which He loved.

וַיִּבֶן כְּמוֹ־רָמִים מִקְדָּשׁוֹ כְּאֶרֶץ יְסָדָהּ לְעוֹלָם׃

Vayiven kemo ramim mikdasho, ke'eretz yesadah le'olam.

He built His sanctuary like the heavens, like the earth that He established forever.

וַיִּבְחַר בְּדָוִד עַבְדּוֹ וַיִּקָּחֵהוּ מִמִּכְלְאֹת צֹאן׃

Vayivchar beDavid avdo, vayikachehu mimikle'ot tzon.

He chose David, His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.

מֵאַחַר עָלוֹת הֱבִיאוֹ לִרְעוֹת בְּיַעֲקֹב עַמּוֹ וּבְיִשְׂרָאֵל נַחֲלָתוֹ׃

Me'achar alot hevi'o lir'ot beYa'akov amo, uveYisrael nachalato.

He brought him from minding the nursing ewes to tend His people Jacob, Israel, His very own.

וַיִּרְעֵם כְּתֹם לְבָבוֹ וּבִתְבוּנוֹת כַּפָּיו יַנְחֵם׃

Vayir'em ketom levavo, uvitevunot kapav yanchem.

He tended them with blameless heart; with skillful hands he led them.

מִזְמוֹר לְאָסָף אֱלֹהִים בָּאוּ גוֹיִם בְּנַחֲלָתֶךָ טִמְּאוּ אֶת־הֵיכַל קָדְשֶׁךָ שָׂמוּ אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַיִם לְעִיִּים׃

Mizmor le'Asaf, Elohim ba'u goyim benachalatecha, time'u et heichal kodshecha, samu et Yerushalayim le'iyim.

A psalm of Asaph. O God, heathens have entered Your domain, defiled Your holy temple, and turned Jerusalem into ruins.

נָתְנוּ אֶת־נִבְלַת עֲבָדֶיךָ מַאֲכָל לְעוֹף הַשָּׁמָיִם בְּשַׂר חֲסִידֶיךָ לְחַיְתוֹ־אָרֶץ׃

Natnu et nivlat avadecha ma'achal le'of hashamayim, besar chasidecha lechayto aretz.

They have left Your servants' corpses as food for the birds of heaven, and the flesh of Your faithful for the wild beasts.

שָׁפְכוּ דָמָם כַּמַּיִם סְבִיבוֹת יְרוּשָׁלָיִם וְאֵין קוֹבֵר׃

Shafchu damam kamayim sevivot Yerushalayim, ve'ein kover.

They shed their blood like water around Jerusalem; there is no one to bury them.

הָיִינוּ חֶרְפָּה לִשְׁכֵנֵינוּ לַעַג וָקֶלֶס לִסְבִיבוֹתֵינוּ׃

Hayinu cherpa lishcheneinu, la'ag vakelels lisevivoteinu.

We have become the butt of our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.

עַד־מָה יְהוָה תֶּאֱנַף לָנֶצַח תִּבְעַר כְּמוֹ־אֵשׁ קִנְאָתֶךָ׃

Ad ma Adonai te'enaf lanetzach, tiv'ar kemo esh kin'atecha.

How long, O LORD, will You be angry forever, will Your indignation blaze like fire?

שְׁפֹךְ חֲמָתְךָ אֶל־הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יְדָעוּךָ וְעַל מַמְלָכוֹת אֲשֶׁר בְּשִׁמְךָ לֹא קָרָאוּ׃

Shfoch chamatcha el hagoyim asher lo yeda'ucha, ve'al mamlachot asher beshimcha lo kara'u.

Pour out Your fury on the nations that do not know You, upon the kingdoms that do not invoke Your name,

כִּי אָכַל אֶת־יַעֲקֹב וְאֶת־נָוֵהוּ הֵשַׁמּוּ׃

Ki achal et Ya'akov, ve'et navehu heshamu.

for they have devoured Jacob and laid his habitation waste.

אַל־תִּזְכָּר־לָנוּ עֲוֺנֹת רִאשֹׁנִים מַהֵר יְקַדְּמוּנוּ רַחֲמֶיךָ כִּי דַלּוֹנוּ מְאֹד׃

Al tizkar lanu avonot rishonim, maher yekadmunu rachamecha, ki dalonu me'od.

Do not hold our former iniquities against us; let Your compassion come swiftly toward us, for we have sunk very low.

עָזְרֵנוּ אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעֵנוּ עַל־דְּבַר כְּבוֹד־שְׁמֶךָ וְהַצִּילֵנוּ וְכַפֵּר עַל־חַטֹּאתֵינוּ לְמַעַן שְׁמֶךָ׃

Ozrenu Elohei yish'enu al devar kevod shemecha, vehatzilenu vechaper al chatotenu lema'an shemecha.

Help us, O God, our deliverer, for the sake of the glory of Your name. Save us and forgive our sin, for the sake of Your name.

לָמָּה יֹאמְרוּ הַגּוֹיִם אַיֵּה אֱלֹהֵיהֶם יִוָּדַע בַּגּוֹיִם לְעֵינֵינוּ נִקְמַת דַּם־עֲבָדֶיךָ הַשָּׁפוּךְ׃

Lama yomru hagoyim ayeh Eloheihem, yivada bagoyim le'eineinu nikmat dam avadecha hashafuch.

Let the nations not say, 'Where is their God?' Before our eyes let it be known among the nations that You avenge the spilled blood of Your servants.

תָּבוֹא לְפָנֶיךָ אֶנְקַת אָסִיר כְּגֹדֶל זְרוֹעֲךָ הוֹתֵר בְּנֵי תְמוּתָה׃

Tavo lefanecha enkat asir, kegodel zero'acha hoter benei temuta.

Let the groans of the prisoners reach You; reprieve those condemned to death, as befits Your great strength.

וְהָשֵׁב לִשְׁכֵנֵינוּ שִׁבְעָתַיִם אֶל־חֵיקָם חֶרְפָּתָם אֲשֶׁר חֵרְפוּךָ אֲדֹנָי׃

Vehashev lishcheneinu shiv'atayim el cheikam cherpata asher cherfucha Adonai.

Pay back our neighbors sevenfold for the abuse they have flung at You, O Lord.

וַאֲנַחְנוּ עַמְּךָ וְצֹאן מַרְעִיתֶךָ נוֹדֶה לְּךָ לְעוֹלָם לְדֹר וָדֹר נְסַפֵּר תְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃

Va'anachnu amcha vetzon mar'itecha, node lecha le'olam, ledor vador nesaper tehilatecha.

Then we, Your people, the flock You tend, shall glorify You forever; for all time we shall tell Your praises.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ אֶל־שֹׁשַׁנִּים עֵדוּת לְאָסָף מִזְמוֹר׃

Lamnatzei'ach el shoshanim edut le'Asaf mizmor.

For the leader; on shoshannim, a decree. Of Asaph. A psalm.

רֹעֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל הַאֲזִינָה נֹהֵג כַּצֹּאן יוֹסֵף יֹשֵׁב הַכְּרוּבִים הוֹפִיעָה׃

Ro'eh Yisrael ha'azina, noheg katzon Yosef, yoshev hakruvim hofi'a.

Give ear, O shepherd of Israel who leads Joseph like a flock! Appear, You who are enthroned on the cherubim,

לִפְנֵי אֶפְרַיִם וּבִנְיָמִן וּמְנַשֶּׁה עוֹרְרָה אֶת־גְּבוּרָתֶךָ וּלְכָה לִישֻׁעָתָה לָּנוּ׃

Lifnei Efrayim uVinyamin uMenashe, orera et gevuratecha, ulcha lishu'ata lanu.

at the head of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh! Rouse Your might and come to our help!

אֱלֹהִים הֲשִׁיבֵנוּ וְהָאֵר פָּנֶיךָ וְנִוָּשֵׁעָה׃

Elohim hashivenu veha'er panecha venivashea.

O God, restore us; show Your favor, that we may be delivered.

יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת עַד־מָתַי עָשַׁנְתָּ בִּתְפִלַּת עַמֶּךָ׃

Adonai Elohim Tzeva'ot, ad matai ashanta bitfilat amecha.

O LORD, God of hosts, how long will You be wrathful toward the prayers of Your people?

הֶאֱכַלְתָּם לֶחֶם דִּמְעָה וַתַּשְׁקֵמוֹ בִּדְמָעוֹת שָׁלִישׁ׃

He'echaltam lechem dim'a, vatashkemo bidma'ot shalish.

You have fed them tears as their daily bread, and made them drink great measures of tears.

תְּשִׂימֵנוּ מָדוֹן לִשְׁכֵנֵינוּ וְאֹיְבֵינוּ יִלְעֲגוּ־לָמוֹ׃

Tesimenu madon lishcheneinu, ve'oyvenu yil'agu lamo.

You set us at strife with our neighbors; our enemies mock us at will.

אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת הֲשִׁיבֵנוּ וְהָאֵר פָּנֶיךָ וְנִוָּשֵׁעָה׃

Elohim Tzeva'ot hashivenu, veha'er panecha venivashea.

O God of hosts, restore us; show Your favor, that we may be delivered.

גֶּפֶן מִמִּצְרַיִם תַּסִּיעַ תְּגָרֵשׁ גּוֹיִם וַתִּטָּעֶהָ׃

Gefen miMitzrayim tasi'a, tegaresh goyim vatita'eha.

You plucked up a vine from Egypt; You expelled nations and planted it.

פִּנִּיתָ לְפָנֶיהָ וַתַּשְׁרֵשׁ שָׁרָשֶׁיהָ וַתְּמַלֵּא־אָרֶץ׃

Pinita lefaneha vatasharesh sharasheiha vatmale aretz.

You cleared a place for it; it took deep root and filled the land.

כָּסּוּ הָרִים צִלָּהּ וַעֲנָפֶיהָ אַרְזֵי־אֵל׃

Kasu harim tzila, va'anafeha arzei El.

The mountains were covered by its shade, mighty cedars by its boughs.

תְּשַׁלַּח קְצִירֶהָ עַד־יָם וְאֶל־נָהָר יוֹנְקוֹתֶיהָ׃

Teshalach ketzireha ad yam, ve'el nahar yonekoteha.

Its branches reached the sea, its shoots, the river.

לָמָּה פָּרַצְתָּ גְדֵרֶיהָ וְאָרוּהָ כָּל־עֹבְרֵי דָרֶךְ׃

Lama faratzta gedereha, ve'aruha kol ovrei darech.

Why did You breach its wall so that every passerby plucks its fruit,

יְכַרְסְמֶנָּה חֲזִיר מִיָּעַר וְזִיז שָׂדַי יִרְעֶנָּה׃

Yecharsemena chazir miya'ar, veziz sadai yir'ena.

the boar from the forest ravages it, and creatures of the field feed on it?

אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת שׁוּב־נָא הַבֵּט מִשָּׁמַיִם וּרְאֵה וּפְקֹד גֶּפֶן זֹאת׃

Elohim Tzeva'ot shuv na, habet mishamayim ure'e, ufkod gefen zot.

O God of hosts, turn again, look down from heaven and see; take note of that vine,

וְכַנָּה אֲשֶׁר־נָטְעָה יְמִינֶךָ וְעַל־בֵּן אִמַּצְתָּה לָּךְ׃

Vechana asher nat'a yeminecha, ve'al ben imatzta lach.

the stock planted by Your right hand, the stem You have taken as Your own.

שְׂרֻפָה בָאֵשׁ כְּסוּחָה מִגַּעֲרַת פָּנֶיךָ יֹאבֵדוּ׃

Serufa va'esh kesucha, miga'arat panecha yovedu.

For it is burned by fire and cut down, perishing at the rebuke of Your face.

תְּהִי־יָדְךָ עַל־אִישׁ יְמִינֶךָ עַל־בֶּן־אָדָם אִמַּצְתָּ לָּךְ׃

Tehi yadcha al ish yeminecha, al ben adam imatzta lach.

Grant Your help to the man at Your right hand, the one You have taken as Your own.

וְלֹא־נָסוֹג מִמֶּךָּ תְּחַיֵּנוּ וּבְשִׁמְךָ נִקְרָא׃

Velo nasog mimeka, techayenu uveshimcha nikra.

Then we will never turn away from You; preserve our life that we may invoke Your name.

יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת הֲשִׁיבֵנוּ הָאֵר פָּנֶיךָ וְנִוָּשֵׁעָה׃

Adonai Elohim Tzeva'ot hashivenu, ha'er panecha venivashea.

O LORD, God of hosts, restore us; show Your favor, that we may be delivered.
