תהילים 11-20

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד בַּיהוָה חָסִיתִי אֵיךְ תֹּאמְרוּ לְנַפְשִׁי נודי [נוּדוּ] הַרְכֶם צִפּוֹר׃

Lamnatzei'ach leDavid. BaAdonai chasiti, eich tomru lenafshi nudi harchem tzipor?

For the leader. Of David. In the LORD I take refuge; how can you say to me, "Flee like a bird to your mountain!

כִּי הִנֵּה הָרְשָׁעִים יִדְרְכוּן קֶשֶׁת כּוֹנְנוּ חִצָּם עַל־יֶתֶר לִירוֹת בְּמוֹ־אֹפֶל לְיִשְׁרֵי־לֵב׃

Ki hine haresha'im yidrechun keshet, konenu chitzam al yeter, lirot bemo ofel leyishrei lev.

For see, the wicked bend the bow, they set their arrow on the string to shoot from the shadows at the upright.

כִּי הַשָּׁתוֹת יֵהָרֵסוּן צַדִּיק מַה־פָּעָל׃

Ki hashatot yeharesun, tzadik ma pa'al?

When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous man do?"

יְהוָה בְּהֵיכַל קָדְשׁוֹ יְהוָה בַּשָּׁמַיִם כִּסְאוֹ עֵינָיו יֶחֱזוּ עַפְעַפָּיו יִבְחֲנוּ בְּנֵי אָדָם׃

Adonai beheichal kodsho, Adonai bashamayim kis'o, einav yechezu, af'apav yivchanu benei adam.

The LORD is in His holy palace; the LORD—His throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His gaze searches mankind.

יְהוָה צַדִּיק יִבְחָן וְרָשָׁע וְאֹהֵב חָמָס שָׂנְאָה נַפְשׁוֹ׃

Adonai tzadik yivchan, verasha ve'ohev chamas san'a nafsho.

The LORD tests the righteous man, but loathes the wicked one who loves injustice.

יַמְטֵר עַל־רְשָׁעִים פַּחִים אֵשׁ וְגָפְרִית וְרוּחַ זִלְעָפוֹת מְנָת כּוֹסָם׃

Yamter al resha'im pachim, esh vegofrit veru'ach zil'afot menat kosam.

He will rain down upon the wicked blazing coals and sulfur; a scorching wind shall be their lot.

כִּי־צַדִּיק יְהוָה צְדָקוֹת אָהֵב יָשָׁר יֶחֱזוּ פָנֵימוֹ׃

Ki tzadik Adonai, tzedakot ahev, yashar yechezu fanemo.

For the LORD is righteous; He loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold His face.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־הַשְּׁמִינִית מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach al hasheminit, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader; on the sheminith. A psalm of David.

הוֹשִׁיעָה יְהוָה כִּי־גָמַר חָסִיד כִּי־פַסּוּ אֱמוּנִים מִבְּנֵי אָדָם׃

Hoshi'a Adonai, ki gamar chasid, ki pasu emunim mibnei adam.

Help, O LORD! For the faithful are no more; the loyal have vanished from among men.

שָׁוְא יְדַבְּרוּ אִישׁ אֶת־רֵעֵהוּ שְׂפַת חֲלָקוֹת בְּלֵב וָלֵב יְדַבֵּרוּ׃

Shav yedabru ish et re'ehu, sfat chalakot belev valev yedaberu.

Men speak lies to one another; their speech is smooth; they talk with duplicity.

יַכְרֵת יְהוָה כָּל־שִׂפְתֵי חֲלָקוֹת לָשׁוֹן מְדַבֶּרֶת גְּדֹלוֹת׃

Yachret Adonai kol siftei chalakot, lashon medaberet gedolot.

May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, every tongue that speaks arrogance.

אֲשֶׁר אָמְרוּ לִלְשֹׁנֵנוּ נַגְבִּיר שְׂפָתֵינוּ אִתָּנוּ מִי אָדוֹן לָנוּ׃

Asher amru lilshonenu nagbir, sfateinu itanu, mi adon lanu?

They say, "By our tongues we shall prevail; with lips such as ours, who can be our master?"

מִשֹּׁד עֲנִיִּים מֵאֶנְקַת אֶבְיוֹנִים עַתָּה אָקוּם יֹאמַר יְהוָה אָשִׁית בְּיֵשַׁע יָפִיחַ לוֹ׃

Mishod aniyim, me'enkat evyonim, ata akum yomar Adonai, ashit beyesha yafiach lo.

"Because of the groaning of the plundered poor and needy, I will now act," says the LORD. "I will give help," He affirms to him.

אִמֲרוֹת יְהוָה אֲמָרוֹת טְהֹרוֹת כֶּסֶף צָרוּף בַּעֲלִיל לָאָרֶץ מְזֻקָּק שִׁבְעָתָיִם׃

Imarot Adonai amarot tehorot, kesef tzaruf ba'alil la'aretz, mezukak shiv'atayim.

The words of the LORD are pure words, silver refined in an earthen crucible, purified seven times.

אַתָּה־יְהוָה תִּשְׁמְרֵם תִּצְּרֶנּוּ מִן־הַדּוֹר זוּ לְעוֹלָם׃

Ata Adonai tishmerem, titzerenu min hador zu le'olam.

You, O LORD, will keep them, guarding each from this age evermore.

סָבִיב רְשָׁעִים יִתְהַלָּכוּן כְּרֻם זֻלּוּת לִבְנֵי אָדָם׃

Saviv resha'im yit'halachun, kerum zulut livnei adam.

On every side the wicked roam when baseness is exalted among men.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader. A psalm of David.

עַד־אָנָה יְהוָה תִּשְׁכָּחֵנִי נֶצַח עַד־אָנָה תַּסְתִּיר אֶת־פָּנֶיךָ מִמֶּנִּי׃

Ad ana Adonai tishkacheni netzach, ad ana tastir et panecha mimeni?

How long, O LORD; will You ignore me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

עַד־אָנָה אָשִׁית עֵצוֹת בְּנַפְשִׁי יָגוֹן בִּלְבָבִי יוֹמָם עַד־אָנָה יָרוּם אֹיְבִי עָלָי׃

Ad ana ashit etzot benafshi, yagon bilevavi yomam, ad ana yarum oyvi alai?

How long will I have cares on my mind, grief in my heart all day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

הַבִּיטָה עֲנֵנִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי הָאִירָה עֵינַי פֶּן־אִישַׁן הַמָּוֶת׃

Habita aneni Adonai Elohai, ha'ira einai pen ishan hamavet.

Look at me, answer me, O LORD, my God! Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

פֶּן־יֹאמַר אֹיְבִי יְכָלְתִּיו צָרַי יָגִילוּ כִּי אֶמּוֹט׃

Pen yomar oyvi yecholtiv, tzarai yagilu ki emot.

lest my enemy say, "I have overcome him," my foes exult when I totter.

וַאֲנִי בְּחַסְדְּךָ בָטַחְתִּי יָגֵל לִבִּי בִּישׁוּעָתֶךָ אָשִׁירָה לַיהוָה כִּי גָמַל עָלָי׃

Va'ani bechasdecha vatachti, yagel libi bishu'atecha, ashira laAdonai ki gamal alai.

But I trust in Your faithfulness, my heart will exult in Your deliverance. I will sing to the LORD, for He has been good to me.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד אָמַר נָבָל בְּלִבּוֹ אֵין אֱלֹהִים הִשְׁחִיתוּ הִתְעִיבוּ עֲלִילָה אֵין עֹשֵׂה־טוֹב׃

Lamnatzei'ach leDavid. Amar naval belibo ein Elohim, hishchitu hit'ivu alila, ein ose tov.

For the leader. Of David. The benighted man thinks, "God does not care." Man's deeds are corrupt and loathsome; no one does good.

יְהוָה מִשָּׁמַיִם הִשְׁקִיף עַל־בְּנֵי־אָדָם לִרְאוֹת הֲיֵשׁ מַשְׂכִּיל דֹּרֵשׁ אֶת־אֱלֹהִים׃

Adonai mishamayim hishkif al benei adam, lir'ot hayesh maskil doresh et Elohim.

The LORD looks down from heaven on mankind to find a man of understanding, a man mindful of God.

הַכֹּל סָר יַחְדָּו נֶאֱלָחוּ אֵין עֹשֵׂה־טוֹב אֵין גַּם־אֶחָד׃

Hakol sar yachdav ne'elachu, ein ose tov ein gam echad.

All have turned bad, altogether foul; there is none who does good, not even one.

הֲלֹא יָדְעוּ כָּל־פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן אֹכְלֵי עַמִּי אָכְלוּ לֶחֶם יְהוָה לֹא קָרָאוּ׃

Halo yad'u kol po'alei aven, ochlei ami achlu lechem, Adonai lo kara'u.

Are they so witless, all those evildoers, who devour my people as they devour food, and do not invoke the LORD?

שָׁם פָּחֲדוּ פָחַד כִּי־אֱלֹהִים בְּדוֹר צַדִּיק׃

Sham pachadu fachad, ki Elohim bedor tzadik.

There they will be seized with fright, for God is present in the circle of the righteous.

עֲצַת־עָנִי תָבִישׁוּ כִּי יְהוָה מַחְסֵהוּ׃

Atzat ani tavishu, ki Adonai machsehu.

You may set at naught the counsel of the lowly, but the LORD is his refuge.

מִי יִתֵּן מִצִּיּוֹן יְשׁוּעַת יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּשׁוּב יְהוָה שְׁבוּת עַמּוֹ יָגֵל יַעֲקֹב יִשְׂמַח יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Mi yiten miTziyon yeshu'at Yisrael! Beshuv Adonai shevut amo, yagel Ya'akov, yismach Yisrael.

O that the deliverance of Israel might come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob will exult, Israel will rejoice.

מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד יְהוָה מִי־יָגוּר בְּאָהֳלֶךָ מִי־יִשְׁכֹּן בְּהַר קָדְשֶׁךָ׃

Mizmor leDavid. Adonai mi yagur be'ohalecha, mi yishkon behar kodshecha?

A psalm of David. LORD, who may sojourn in Your tent, who may dwell on Your holy mountain?

הוֹלֵךְ תָּמִים וּפֹעֵל צֶדֶק וְדֹבֵר אֱמֶת בִּלְבָבוֹ׃

Holech tamim ufo'el tzedek, vedover emet bilvavo.

He who lives without blame, who does what is right, and in his heart acknowledges the truth;

לֹא־רָגַל עַל־לְשֹׁנוֹ לֹא־עָשָׂה לְרֵעֵהוּ רָעָה וְחֶרְפָּה לֹא־נָשָׂא עַל־קְרֹבוֹ׃

Lo ragal al leshono, lo asa lere'ehu ra'a, vecherpa lo nasa al kerovo.

whose tongue is not given to evil; who has never done harm to his fellow, or borne reproach for his acts toward his neighbor;

נִבְזֶה בְּעֵינָיו נִמְאָס וְאֶת־יִרְאֵי יְהוָה יְכַבֵּד נִשְׁבַּע לְהָרַע וְלֹא יָמִר׃

Nivze be'einav nim'as, ve'et yir'ei Adonai yechaved, nishba lehara velo yamir.

for whom a contemptible man is abhorrent, but who honors those who fear the LORD; who stands by his oath even to his hurt;

כַּסְפּוֹ לֹא־נָתַן בְּנֶשֶׁךְ וְשֹׁחַד עַל־נָקִי לֹא לָקָח עֹשֵׂה־אֵלֶּה לֹא יִמּוֹט לְעוֹלָם׃

Kaspo lo natan beneshech, veshochad al naki lo lakach. Ose ele lo yimot le'olam.

who has never lent money at interest, or accepted a bribe against the innocent. The man who acts thus shall never be shaken.

מִכְתָּם לְדָוִד שָׁמְרֵנִי אֵל כִּי־חָסִיתִי בָךְ׃

Michtam leDavid. Shomreni El ki chasiti vach.

A michtam of David. Protect me, O God, for I seek refuge in You.

אָמַרְתְּ לַיהוָה אֲדֹנָי אָתָּה טוֹבָתִי בַּל־עָלֶיךָ׃

Amart laAdonai Adonai ata, tovati bal alecha.

I say to the LORD, "You are my Lord, my benefactor; there is none above You."

לִקְדוֹשִׁים אֲשֶׁר־בָּאָרֶץ הֵמָּה וְאַדִּירֵי כָּל־חֶפְצִי־בָם׃

Likdoshim asher ba'aretz hema, ve'adirei kol cheftzi vam.

As to the holy and mighty ones that are in the land, my whole desire is in them.

יִרְבּוּ עַצְּבוֹתָם אַחֵר מָהָרוּ בַּל־אַסִּיךְ נִסְכֵּיהֶם מִדָּם וּבַל־אֶשָּׂא אֶת־שְׁמוֹתָם עַל־שְׂפָתָי׃

Yirbu atzevotam acher maharu, bal asich niskeihem midam, uval esa et shemotam al sefatai.

Those who espouse another [god]—may their sorrows increase! I will not pour out libations of blood to them, or let their names pass my lips.

יְהוָה מְנָת־חֶלְקִי וְכוֹסִי אַתָּה תּוֹמִיךְ גּוֹרָלִי׃

Adonai menat chelki vechosi, Ata tomich gorali.

The LORD is my allotted share and portion; You control my fate.

חֲבָלִים נָפְלוּ־לִי בַּנְּעִמִים אַף־נַחֲלָת שָׁפְרָה עָלָי׃

Chavalim naflu li bane'imim, af nachalat shafra alai.

Delightful country has fallen to my lot; lovely indeed is my estate.

אֲבָרֵךְ אֶת־יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר יְעָצָנִי אַף־לֵילוֹת יִסְּרוּנִי כִלְיוֹתָי׃

Avarech et Adonai asher ye'atzani, af leilot yisruni chilyotai.

I bless the LORD who has guided me; my conscience admonishes me at night.

שִׁוִּיתִי יְהוָה לְנֶגְדִּי תָמִיד כִּי מִימִינִי בַּל־אֶמּוֹט׃

Shiviti Adonai lenegdi tamid, ki mimini bal emot.

I am ever mindful of the LORD's presence; He is at my right hand; I shall never be shaken.

לָכֵן שָׂמַח לִבִּי וַיָּגֶל כְּבוֹדִי אַף־בְּשָׂרִי יִשְׁכֹּן לָבֶטַח׃

Lachen samach libi vayagel kevodi, af besari yishkon lavetach.

So my heart rejoices, my whole being exults, and my body rests secure.

כִּי לֹא־תַעֲזֹב נַפְשִׁי לִשְׁאוֹל לֹא־תִתֵּן חֲסִידְךָ לִרְאוֹת שָׁחַת׃

Ki lo ta'azov nafshi lish'ol, lo titen chasidcha lir'ot shachat.

For You will not abandon me to Sheol, or let Your faithful one see the Pit.

תּוֹדִיעֵנִי אֹרַח חַיִּים שֹׂבַע שְׂמָחוֹת אֶת־פָּנֶיךָ נְעִמוֹת בִּימִינְךָ נֶצַח׃

Todi'eni orach chayim, sova semachot et panecha, ne'imot bimincha netzach.

You will teach me the path of life. In Your presence is perfect joy; delights are ever in Your right hand.

תְּפִלָּה לְדָוִד שִׁמְעָה יְהוָה צֶדֶק הַקְשִׁיבָה רִנָּתִי הַאֲזִינָה תְפִלָּתִי בְּלֹא שִׂפְתֵי מִרְמָה׃

Tefila leDavid. Shim'a Adonai tzedek, hakshiva rinati, ha'azina tefilati belo siftei mirma.

A prayer of David. Hear, O LORD, what is just; heed my cry, give ear to my prayer, uttered without guile.

מִלְּפָנֶיךָ מִשְׁפָּטִי יֵצֵא עֵינֶיךָ תֶּחֱזֶינָה מֵישָׁרִים׃

Milefanecha mishpati yetze, einecha techezeina meisharim.

My vindication will come from You; Your eyes will behold what is right.

בָּחַנְתָּ לִבִּי פָּקַדְתָּ לַּיְלָה צְרַפְתַּנִי בַל־תִּמְצָא זַמֹּתִי בַּל־יַעֲבָר־פִּי׃

Bachanta libi, pakadta layla, tzeraftani bal timtza, zamoti bal ya'avor pi.

You have visited me at night, probed my mind, You have tested me and found nothing amiss; I determined that my mouth should not transgress.

לִפְעֻלּוֹת אָדָם בִּדְבַר שְׂפָתֶיךָ אֲנִי שָׁמַרְתִּי אָרְחוֹת פָּרִיץ׃

Lif'ulot adam bidvar sefatecha, ani shamarti orchot paritz.

As for man's dealings, by the word of Your lips I have avoided the ways of the lawless.

תָּמֹךְ אֲשֻׁרַי בְּמַעְגְּלוֹתֶיךָ בַּל־נָמוֹטּוּ פְעָמָי׃

Tamoch ashurai bema'gelotecha, bal namotu fe'amai.

My feet have held to Your paths; my legs have not given way.

אֲנִי־קְרָאתִיךָ כִי־תַעֲנֵנִי אֵל הַט־אָזְנְךָ לִי שְׁמַע אִמְרָתִי׃

Ani keraticha chi ta'aneni El, hat oznecha li, shma imrati.

I call on You; You will answer me, God; turn Your ear to me, hear what I say.

הַפְלֵה חֲסָדֶיךָ מוֹשִׁיעַ חוֹסִים מִמִּתְקוֹמְמִים בִּימִינֶךָ׃

Hafle chasadecha, moshi'a chosim mimitkomemim biminecha.

Display Your faithfulness in wondrous deeds, You who deliver with Your right hand those who seek refuge from assailants.

שָׁמְרֵנִי כְּאִישׁוֹן בַּת־עָיִן בְּצֵל כְּנָפֶיךָ תַּסְתִּירֵנִי׃

Shomreni ke'ishon bat ayin, betzel kenafecha tastireni.

Guard me like the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings

מִפְּנֵי רְשָׁעִים זוּ שַׁדּוּנִי אֹיְבַי בְּנֶפֶשׁ יַקִּיפוּ עָלָי׃

Mipnei resha'im zu shaduni, oyvai benefesh yakifu alai.

from the wicked who despoil me, my mortal enemies who encircle me.

חֶלְבָּמוֹ סָּגְרוּ פִּימוֹ דִּבְּרוּ בְגֵאוּת׃

Chelbamo sagru, pimo dibru vege'ut.

Their hearts are closed to pity; they mouth arrogance.

אַשֻּׁרֵינוּ עַתָּה סבבוני [סְבָבוּנוּ] עֵינֵיהֶם יָשִׁיתוּ לִנְטוֹת בָּאָרֶץ׃

Ashurenu ata sevavunu, eineihem yashitu lintot ba'aretz.

Now they hem in our steps on every side; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground.

דִּמְיֹנוֹ כְּאַרְיֵה יִכְסוֹף לִטְרוֹף וְכִכְפִיר יֹשֵׁב בְּמִסְתָּרִים׃

Dimyono ke'arye yichsof litrof, vechechfir yoshev bemis'tarim.

He is like a lion eager for prey, a king of beasts lying in wait.

קוּמָה יְהוָה קַדְּמָה פָנָיו הַכְרִיעֵהוּ פַּלְּטָה נַפְשִׁי מֵרָשָׁע חַרְבֶּךָ׃

Kuma Adonai, kadma fanav, hachri'ehu, palta nafshi merasha charbecha.

Rise, O LORD! Go forth to meet him. Bring him down; rescue me from the wicked with Your sword,

מִמְתִים יָדְךָ יְהוָה מִמְתִים מֵחֶלֶד חֶלְקָם בַּחַיִּים וצפינך [וּצְפוּנְךָ] תְּמַלֵּא בִטְנָם יִשְׂבְּעוּ בָנִים וְהִנִּיחוּ יִתְרָם לְעוֹלְלֵיהֶם׃

Mimetim yadcha Adonai, mimetim mecheled chelkam bachayim, utzfuncha temale vitnam, yisbe'u vanim vehinnichu yitram le'olelehem.

from men, O LORD, with Your hand, from men whose share in life is fleeting. But as to Your treasured ones, fill their bellies; their sons too shall be satisfied, and have something to leave over for their young.

אֲנִי בְּצֶדֶק אֶחֱזֶה פָנֶיךָ אֶשְׂבְּעָה בְהָקִיץ תְּמוּנָתֶךָ׃

Ani betzedek echeze fanecha, esbe'a vehakitz temunatecha.

Then I, justified, will behold Your face; awake, I am filled with the vision of You.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְעֶבֶד יְהוָה לְדָוִד אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר לַיהוָה אֶת־דִּבְרֵי הַשִּׁירָה הַזֹּאת בְּיוֹם הִצִּיל־יְהוָה אוֹתוֹ מִכַּף כָּל־אֹיְבָיו וּמִיַּד שָׁאוּל׃

Lamnatzei'ach le'eved Adonai leDavid, asher diber laAdonai et divrei hashira hazot beyom hitzil Adonai oto mikaf kol oyvav umiyad Shaul.

For the leader. Of David, the servant of the LORD, who addressed the words of this song to the LORD after the LORD had saved him from the hands of all his enemies and from the clutches of Saul.

וַיֹּאמַר אֶרְחָמְךָ יְהוָה חִזְקִי׃

Vayomar: Erachamcha Adonai chizki.

He said: I adore You, O LORD, my strength,

יְהוָה סַלְעִי וּמְצוּדָתִי וּמְפַלְטִי אֵלִי צוּרִי אֶחֱסֶה־בּוֹ מָגִנִּי וְקֶרֶן־יִשְׁעִי מִשְׂגַּבִּי׃

Adonai sal'i umetzudati umfalti, Eli tzuri echese vo, magini vekeren yish'i misgabi.

O LORD, my crag, my fortress, my rescuer, my God, my rock in whom I seek refuge, my shield, my mighty champion, my haven.

מְהֻלָּל אֶקְרָא יְהוָה וּמִן־אֹיְבַי אִוָּשֵׁעַ׃

Mehulal ekra Adonai, umin oyvai ivashei'a.

All praise! I called on the LORD and was delivered from my enemies.

אֲפָפוּנִי חֶבְלֵי־מָוֶת וְנַחֲלֵי בְלִיַּעַל יְבַעֲתוּנִי׃

Afafuni chevlei mavet, venachalei veliya'al yeva'atuni.

Ropes of Death encompassed me; torrents of destruction terrified me;

חֶבְלֵי שְׁאוֹל סְבָבוּנִי קִדְּמוּנִי מוֹקְשֵׁי מָוֶת׃

Chevlei She'ol sevavuni, kidmuni mokshei mavet.

ropes of Sheol encircled me; snares of Death confronted me.

בַּצַּר־לִי אֶקְרָא יְהוָה וְאֶל־אֱלֹהַי אֲשַׁוֵּעַ יִשְׁמַע מֵהֵיכָלוֹ קוֹלִי וְשַׁוְעָתִי לְפָנָיו תָּבוֹא בְאָזְנָיו׃

Batzar li ekra Adonai, ve'el Elohai ashave'a, yishma meheichalo koli, veshav'ati lefanav tavo ve'oznav.

In my distress I called on the LORD, cried out to my God; in His temple He heard my voice; my cry to Him reached His ears.

וַתִּגְעַשׁ וַתִּרְעַשׁ הָאָרֶץ וּמוֹסְדֵי הָרִים יִרְגָּזוּ וַיִּתְגָּעֲשׁוּ כִּי־חָרָה לוֹ׃

Vatig'ash vatir'ash ha'aretz, umosdei harim yirgezu vayitga'ashu ki chara lo.

Then the earth rocked and quaked; the foundations of the mountains shook, rocked by His indignation.

עָלָה עָשָׁן בְּאַפּוֹ וְאֵשׁ־מִפִּיו תֹּאכֵל גֶּחָלִים בָּעֲרוּ מִמֶּנּוּ׃

Ala ashan be'apo, ve'esh mipiv tochel, gechalim ba'aru mimenu.

Smoke went up from His nostrils, from His mouth came devouring fire; live coals blazed forth from Him.

וַיֵּט שָׁמַיִם וַיֵּרַד וַעֲרָפֶל תַּחַת רַגְלָיו׃

Vayet shamayim vayered, va'arafel tachat raglav.

He bent the sky and came down, thick cloud beneath His feet.

וַיִּרְכַּב עַל־כְּרוּב וַיָּעֹף וַיֵּדֶא עַל־כַּנְפֵי־רוּחַ׃

Vayirkav al keruv vaya'of, vayede al kanfei ru'ach.

He mounted a cherub and flew, gliding on the wings of the wind.

יָשֶׁת חֹשֶׁךְ סִתְרוֹ סְבִיבוֹתָיו סֻכָּתוֹ חֶשְׁכַת־מַיִם עָבֵי שְׁחָקִים׃

Yashet choshech sitro, sevivotav sukato, cheshchat mayim avei shechakim.

He made darkness His screen; dark thunderheads, dense clouds of the sky were His pavilion round about Him.

מִנֹּגַהּ נֶגְדּוֹ עָבָיו עָבְרוּ בָּרָד וְגַחֲלֵי־אֵשׁ׃

Minoga negdo avav avru, barad vegachalei esh.

Out of the brilliance before Him, hail and fiery coals pierced His clouds.

וַיַּרְעֵם בַּשָּׁמַיִם יְהוָה וְעֶלְיוֹן יִתֵּן קֹלוֹ בָּרָד וְגַחֲלֵי־אֵשׁ׃

Vayar'em bashamayim Adonai, ve'Elyon yiten kolo, barad vegachalei esh.

Then the LORD thundered from heaven, the Most High gave forth His voice—hail and fiery coals.

וַיִּשְׁלַח חִצָּיו וַיְפִיצֵם וּבְרָקִים רָב וַיְהֻמֵּם׃

Vayishlach chitzav vayfitzem, uverakim rav vayehumem.

He let fly His shafts and scattered them; He shot lightning and routed them.

וַיֵּרָאוּ אֲפִיקֵי מַיִם וַיִּגָּלוּ מוֹסְדוֹת תֵּבֵל מִגַּעֲרָתְךָ יְהוָה מִנִּשְׁמַת רוּחַ אַפֶּךָ׃

Vayera'u afikei mayim, vayigalu mosdot tevel, miga'aratcha Adonai, minishmat ru'ach apecha.

The ocean bed was exposed; the foundations of the world were laid bare by Your blast, O LORD, at the breath of Your nostrils.

יִשְׁלַח מִמָּרוֹם יִקָּחֵנִי יַמְשֵׁנִי מִמַּיִם רַבִּים׃

Yishlach mimarom yikacheni, yamsheni mimayim rabim.

He reached down from on high, He took me; He drew me out of the mighty waters.

יַצִּילֵנִי מֵאֹיְבִי עָז וּמִשֹּׂנְאַי כִּי־אָמְצוּ מִמֶּנִּי׃

Yatzileni me'oyvi az, umison'ai ki amtzu mimeni.

He saved me from my fierce enemy, from foes too strong for me.

יְקַדְּמוּנִי בְיוֹם־אֵידִי וַיְהִי־יְהוָה לְמִשְׁעָן לִי׃

Yekadmuni veyom eidi, vayehi Adonai lemish'an li.

They confronted me on my day of calamity, but the LORD was my support.

וַיּוֹצִיאֵנִי לַמֶּרְחָב יְחַלְּצֵנִי כִּי חָפֵץ בִּי׃

Vayotzi'eni lamerchav, yechaltzeni ki chafetz bi.

He brought me out to freedom; He rescued me because He was pleased with me.

יִגְמְלֵנִי יְהוָה כְּצִדְקִי כְּבֹר יָדַי יָשִׁיב לִי׃

Yigmeleni Adonai ketzidki, kevor yadai yashiv li.

The LORD rewarded me according to my merit; He requited the cleanness of my hands;

כִּי־שָׁמַרְתִּי דַּרְכֵי יְהוָה וְלֹא־רָשַׁעְתִּי מֵאֱלֹהָי׃

Ki shamarti darchei Adonai, velo rashati me'Elohai.

for I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not been guilty before my God;

כִּי כָל־מִשְׁפָּטָיו לְנֶגְדִּי וְחֻקֹּתָיו לֹא־אָסִיר מֶנִּי׃

Ki chol mishpatav lenegdi, vechukatav lo asir meni.

for I am mindful of all His rules; I have not disregarded His laws.

וָאֱהִי תָמִים עִמּוֹ וָאֶשְׁתַּמֵּר מֵעֲוֺנִי׃

Va'ehi tamim imo, va'eshtamer me'avoni.

I have been blameless toward Him, and have guarded myself against sinning.

וַיָּשֶׁב־יְהוָה לִי כְצִדְקִי כְּבֹר יָדַי לְנֶגֶד עֵינָיו׃

Vayashev Adonai li chetzidki, kevor yadai leneged einav.

So the LORD has requited me according to my merit, the cleanness of my hands in His sight.

עִם־חָסִיד תִּתְחַסָּד עִם־גְּבַר תָּמִים תִּתַּמָּם׃

Im chasid titchasad, im gevar tamim titamam.

With the loyal, You deal loyally; with the blameless man, blamelessly.

עִם־נָבָר תִּתְבָּרָר וְעִם־עִקֵּשׁ תִּתְפַּתָּל׃

Im navar titbarar, ve'im ikesh titpatal.

With the pure, You act purely, and with the perverse, You are wily.

כִּי־אַתָּה עַם־עָנִי תוֹשִׁיעַ וְעֵינַיִם רָמוֹת תַּשְׁפִּיל׃

Ki Ata am ani toshi'a, ve'einayim ramot tashpil.

It is You who deliver lowly folk, but haughty eyes You humble.

כִּי־אַתָּה תָּאִיר נֵרִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהַי יַגִּיהַּ חָשְׁכִּי׃

Ki Ata ta'ir neri, Adonai Elohai yagi'ah choshki.

It is You who light my lamp; the LORD, my God, lights up my darkness.

כִּי־בְךָ אָרֻץ גְּדוּד וּבֵאלֹהַי אֲדַלֶּג־שׁוּר׃

Ki vecha arutz gedud, uvElohai adaleg shur.

With You, I can rush a barrier; with my God, I can scale a wall.

הָאֵל תָּמִים דַּרְכּוֹ אִמְרַת יְהוָה צְרוּפָה מָגֵן הוּא לְכֹל הַחוֹסִים בּוֹ׃

Ha'El tamim darko, imrat Adonai tzerufa, magen hu lechol hachosim bo.

God's way is perfect; the LORD's word is pure; He is a shield to all who seek refuge in Him.

כִּי מִי אֱלוֹהַּ מִבַּלְעֲדֵי יְהוָה וּמִי צוּר זוּלָתִי אֱלֹהֵינוּ׃

Ki mi Eloha mibil'adei Adonai, umi tzur zulati Eloheinu?

Truly, who is a god except the LORD, who is a rock but our God?—

הָאֵל הַמְאַזְּרֵנִי חָיִל וַיִּתֵּן תָּמִים דַּרְכִּי׃

Ha'El hame'azreni chayil, vayiten tamim darki.

the God who girded me with might, who made my way blameless;

מְשַׁוֶּה רַגְלַי כָּאַיָּלוֹת וְעַל בָּמֹתַי יַעֲמִידֵנִי׃

Meshave raglai ka'ayalot, ve'al bamotai ya'amideni.

who made my legs like a deer's, and let me stand firm on the heights;

מְלַמֵּד יָדַי לַמִּלְחָמָה וְנִחֲתָה קֶשֶׁת־נְחוּשָׁה זְרוֹעֹתָי׃

Melamed yadai lamilchama, venichata keshet nechusha zero'otai.

who trained my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

וַתִּתֶּן־לִי מָגֵן יִשְׁעֶךָ וִימִינְךָ תִסְעָדֵנִי וְעַנְוַתְךָ תַרְבֵּנִי׃

Vatiten li magen yish'echa, vimincha tis'adeni, ve'anvatcha tarbeni.

You have given me the shield of Your protection; Your right hand has sustained me, Your care has made me great.

תַּרְחִיב צַעֲדִי תַחְתָּי וְלֹא מָעֲדוּ קַרְסֻלָּי׃

Tarchiv tza'adi tachtai, velo ma'adu karsulai.

You have let me stride on freely; my feet have not slipped.

אֶרְדּוֹף אוֹיְבַי וְאַשִּׂיגֵם וְלֹא־אָשׁוּב עַד־כַּלּוֹתָם׃

Erdof oyvai ve'asigem, velo ashuv ad kalotam.

I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till I destroyed them.

אֶמְחָצֵם וְלֹא־יֻכְלוּ קוּם יִפְּלוּ תַּחַת רַגְלָי׃

Emchatzem velo yuchlu kum, yiplu tachat raglai.

I struck them down, and they could rise no more; they lay fallen at my feet.

וַתְּאַזְּרֵנִי חַיִל לַמִּלְחָמָה תַּכְרִיעַ קָמַי תַּחְתָּי׃

Vate'azreni chayil lamilchama, tachri'a kamai tachtai.

You have girded me with strength for battle, brought my adversaries low before me,

וְאֹיְבַי נָתַתָּה לִּי עֹרֶף וּמְשַׂנְאַי אַצְמִיתֵם׃

Ve'oyvai natata li oref, umsan'ai atzmitem.

made my enemies turn tail before me; I wiped out my foes.

יְשַׁוְּעוּ וְאֵין־מוֹשִׁיעַ עַל־יְהוָה וְלֹא עָנָם׃

Yeshav'u ve'ein moshi'a, al Adonai velo anam.

They cried out, but there was none to deliver; [cried] to the LORD, but He did not answer them.

וְאֶשְׁחָקֵם כְּעָפָר עַל־פְּנֵי־רוּחַ כְּטִיט חוּצוֹת אֲרִיקֵם׃

Ve'eshchakem ke'afar al pnei ru'ach, ketit chutzot arikem.

I ground them fine as windswept dust; I trod them flat as dirt of the streets.

תְּפַלְּטֵנִי מֵרִיבֵי עָם תְּשִׂימֵנִי לְרֹאשׁ גּוֹיִם עַם לֹא־יָדַעְתִּי יַעַבְדוּנִי׃

Tefaleteni merivei am, tesimeni lerosh goyim, am lo yadati ya'avduni.

You have rescued me from the strife of people; You have set me at the head of nations; peoples I knew not must serve me.

לְשֵׁמַע אֹזֶן יִשָּׁמְעוּ לִי בְּנֵי־נֵכָר יְכַחֲשׁוּ־לִי׃

Leshema ozen yishme'u li, benei nechar yechachashu li.

At the mere report of me they are submissive; foreigners cringe before me.

בְּנֵי־נֵכָר יִבֹּלוּ וְיַחְרְגוּ מִמִּסְגְּרוֹתֵיהֶם׃

Benei nechar yibolu, veyachregu mimisgroteihem.

Foreigners lose their courage, and come trembling out of their strongholds.

חַי־יְהוָה וּבָרוּךְ צוּרִי וְיָרוּם אֱלוֹהֵי יִשְׁעִי׃

Chai Adonai, uvaruch tzuri, veyarum Elohei yish'i.

The LORD lives! Blessed is my rock! Exalted be God, my deliverer,

הָאֵל הַנּוֹתֵן נְקָמוֹת לִי וַיַּדְבֵּר עַמִּים תַּחְתָּי׃

Ha'El hanoten nekamot li, vayadber amim tachtai.

the God who has vindicated me and made peoples subject to me,

מְפַלְּטִי מֵאֹיְבָי אַף מִן־קָמַי תְּרוֹמְמֵנִי מֵאִישׁ חָמָס תַּצִּילֵנִי׃

Mefalti me'oyvai, af min kamai teromemeni, me'ish chamas tatzileni.

who rescued me from my enemies, who raised me clear of my adversaries, saved me from lawless men.

עַל־כֵּן אוֹדְךָ בַגּוֹיִם יְהוָה וּלְשִׁמְךָ אֲזַמֵּרָה׃

Al ken odcha vagoyim Adonai, ulshimcha azamera.

For this I sing Your praises among the nations, LORD, and hymn Your name:

מַגְדִּל יְשׁוּעוֹת מַלְכּוֹ וְעֹשֶׂה חֶסֶד לִמְשִׁיחוֹ לְדָוִד וּלְזַרְעוֹ עַד־עוֹלָם׃

Magdil yeshu'ot malko, ve'ose chesed limshicho, leDavid ulzar'o ad olam.

He accords great victories to His king, keeps faith with His anointed, with David and his offspring forever.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader. A psalm of David.

הַשָּׁמַיִם מְסַפְּרִים כְּבוֹד־אֵל וּמַעֲשֵׂה יָדָיו מַגִּיד הָרָקִיעַ׃

Hashamayim mesaprim kevod El, uma'ase yadav magid haraki'a.

The heavens declare the glory of God, the sky proclaims His handiwork.

יוֹם לְיוֹם יַבִּיעַ אֹמֶר וְלַיְלָה לְּלַיְלָה יְחַוֶּה־דָּעַת׃

Yom leyom yabia omer, velayla lelayla yechave da'at.

Day to day makes utterance, night to night speaks out.

אֵין־אֹמֶר וְאֵין דְּבָרִים בְּלִי נִשְׁמָע קוֹלָם׃

Ein omer ve'ein devarim, beli nishma kolam.

There is no utterance, there are no words, whose sound goes unheard.

בְּכָל־הָאָרֶץ יָצָא קַוָּם וּבִקְצֵה תֵבֵל מִלֵּיהֶם לַשֶּׁמֶשׁ שָׂם־אֹהֶל בָּהֶם׃

Bechol ha'aretz yatza kavam, uviktze tevel mileihem, lashemesh sam ohel bahem.

Their voice carries throughout the earth, their words to the end of the world. He placed in them a tent for the sun,

וְהוּא כְּחָתָן יֹצֵא מֵחֻפָּתוֹ יָשִׂישׂ כְּגִבּוֹר לָרוּץ אֹרַח׃

Vehu kechatan yotze mechupato, yasis kegibbor larutz orach.

who is like a groom coming forth from the chamber, like a hero, eager to run his course.

מִקְצֵה הַשָּׁמַיִם מוֹצָאוֹ וּתְקוּפָתוֹ עַל־קְצוֹתָם וְאֵין נִסְתָּר מֵחַמָּתוֹ׃

Miktze hashamayim motza'o, utekufato al ketzotam, ve'ein nistar mechamato.

His rising-place is at one end of heaven, and his circuit reaches the other; nothing escapes his heat.

תּוֹרַת יְהוָה תְּמִימָה מְשִׁיבַת נָפֶשׁ עֵדוּת יְהוָה נֶאֱמָנָה מַחְכִּימַת פֶּתִי׃

Torat Adonai temima, meshivat nafesh; edut Adonai ne'emana, machkimat peti.

The teaching of the LORD is perfect, renewing life; the decrees of the LORD are enduring, making the simple wise;

פִּקּוּדֵי יְהוָה יְשָׁרִים מְשַׂמְּחֵי לֵב מִצְוַת יְהוָה בָּרָה מְאִירַת עֵינָיִם׃

Pikudei Adonai yesharim, mesamchei lev; mitzvat Adonai bara, me'irat einayim.

the precepts of the LORD are just, rejoicing the heart; the instruction of the LORD is lucid, making the eyes light up.

יִרְאַת יְהוָה טְהוֹרָה עוֹמֶדֶת לָעַד מִשְׁפְּטֵי־יְהוָה אֱמֶת צָדְקוּ יַחְדָּו׃

Yir'at Adonai tehora, omedet la'ad; mishpetei Adonai emet, tzadku yachdav.

The fear of the LORD is pure, abiding forever; the judgments of the LORD are true, righteous altogether,

הַנֶּחֱמָדִים מִזָּהָב וּמִפַּז רָב וּמְתוּקִים מִדְּבַשׁ וְנֹפֶת צוּפִים׃

Hanechamadim mizahav umipaz rav, umetukim midevash venofet tzufim.

more desirable than gold, than much fine gold; sweeter than honey, than drippings of the comb.

גַּם־עַבְדְּךָ נִזְהָר בָּהֶם בְּשָׁמְרָם עֵקֶב רָב׃

Gam avdecha nizhar bahem, beshomram ekev rav.

Your servant pays them heed; in obeying them there is much reward.

שְׁגִיאוֹת מִי־יָבִין מִנִּסְתָּרוֹת נַקֵּנִי׃

Shegi'ot mi yavin, ministarot nakeni.

Who can be aware of errors? Clear me of unperceived guilt,

גַּם מִזֵּדִים חֲשֹׂךְ עַבְדֶּךָ אַל־יִמְשְׁלוּ־בִי אָז אֵיתָם וְנִקֵּיתִי מִפֶּשַׁע רָב׃

Gam mizeidim chasoch avdecha, al yimshelu vi, az eitam venekeiti mipesha rav.

and from willful sins keep Your servant; let them not dominate me; then shall I be blameless and clear of grave offense.

יִהְיוּ לְרָצוֹן אִמְרֵי־פִי וְהֶגְיוֹן לִבִּי לְפָנֶיךָ יְהוָה צוּרִי וְגֹאֲלִי׃

Yihyu leratzon imrei fi vehegyon libi lefanecha, Adonai tzuri vego'ali.

May the words of my mouth and the prayer of my heart be acceptable to You, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader. A psalm of David.

יַעַנְךָ יְהוָה בְּיוֹם צָרָה יְשַׂגֶּבְךָ שֵׁם אֱלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב׃

Ya'ancha Adonai beyom tzara, yesagevcha shem Elohei Ya'akov.

May the LORD answer you in time of trouble, the name of Jacob's God keep you safe.

יִשְׁלַח־עֶזְרְךָ מִקֹּדֶשׁ וּמִצִּיּוֹן יִסְעָדֶךָּ׃

Yishlach ezrecha mikodesh, umiTziyon yis'adeka.

May He send you help from the sanctuary, and sustain you from Zion.

יִזְכֹּר כָּל־מִנְחֹתֶךָ וְעוֹלָתְךָ יְדַשְּׁנֶה סֶלָה׃

Yizkor kol minchotecha, ve'olatcha yedashneh, sela.

May He receive the tokens of all your meal offerings, and approve your burnt offerings. Selah.

יִתֶּן־לְךָ כִלְבָבֶךָ וְכָל־עֲצָתְךָ יְמַלֵּא׃

Yiten lecha chilevavecha, vechol atzatcha yemale.

May He grant you your desire, and fulfill your every plan.

נְרַנְּנָה בִּישׁוּעָתֶךָ וּבְשֵׁם־אֱלֹהֵינוּ נִדְגֹּל יְמַלֵּא יְהוָה כָּל־מִשְׁאֲלוֹתֶיךָ׃

Neranena bishu'atecha, uveshem Eloheinu nidgol, yemale Adonai kol mish'alotecha.

May we shout for joy in your victory, arrayed by standards in the name of our God. May the LORD fulfill your every wish.

עַתָּה יָדַעְתִּי כִּי הוֹשִׁיעַ יְהוָה מְשִׁיחוֹ יַעֲנֵהוּ מִשְּׁמֵי קָדְשׁוֹ בִּגְבֻרוֹת יֵשַׁע יְמִינוֹ׃

Ata yadati ki hoshi'a Adonai meshicho, ya'anehu mishmei kodsho, bigvurot yesha yemino.

Now I know that the LORD will give victory to His anointed, will answer him from His heavenly sanctuary with the mighty victories of His right arm.

אֵלֶּה בָרֶכֶב וְאֵלֶּה בַסּוּסִים וַאֲנַחְנוּ בְּשֵׁם־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ נַזְכִּיר׃

Ele varechev ve'ele vasusim, va'anachnu beshem Adonai Eloheinu nazkir.

They [call] on chariots, they [call] on horses, but we call on the name of the LORD our God.

הֵמָּה כָּרְעוּ וְנָפָלוּ וַאֲנַחְנוּ קַּמְנוּ וַנִּתְעוֹדָד׃

Hema kar'u venafalu, va'anachnu kamnu vanitodad.

They collapse and lie fallen, but we rally and gather strength.

יְהוָה הוֹשִׁיעָה הַמֶּלֶךְ יַעֲנֵנוּ בְיוֹם־קָרְאֵנוּ׃

Adonai hoshi'a, haMelech ya'anenu veyom kor'enu.

O LORD, grant victory! May the King answer us when we call.
