תהילים 1-10

אַשְׁרֵי־הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא הָלַךְ בַּעֲצַת רְשָׁעִים וּבְדֶרֶךְ חַטָּאִים לֹא עָמָד וּבְמוֹשַׁב לֵצִים לֹא יָשָׁב׃

Ashrei ha'ish asher lo halach ba'atzat resha'im, uvderech chata'im lo amad, uvmoshav leitzim lo yashav.

Happy is the man who has not followed the counsel of the wicked, or taken the path of sinners, or joined the company of the insolent;

כִּי אִם־בְּתוֹרַת יְהוָה חֶפְצוֹ וּבְתוֹרָתוֹ יֶהְגֶּה יוֹמָם וָלָיְלָה׃

Ki im betorat Adonai cheftzo, uvtorato yehege yomam valayla.

rather, the teaching of the LORD is his delight, and he studies ^a a: Or "recites"; lit. "utters."

וְהָיָה כְּעֵץ שָׁתוּל עַל־פַּלְגֵי מָיִם אֲשֶׁר פִּרְיוֹ יִתֵּן בְּעִתּוֹ וְעָלֵהוּ לֹא־יִבּוֹל וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר־יַעֲשֶׂה יַצְלִיחַ׃

Vehaya ke'etz shatul al palgei mayim, asher piryo yiten be'ito, ve'alehu lo yibol, vechol asher ya'ase yatzliach.

He is like a tree planted beside streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, whose foliage never fades, and whatever it produces thrives.

לֹא־כֵן הָרְשָׁעִים כִּי אִם־כַּמֹּץ אֲשֶׁר־תִּדְּפֶנּוּ רוּחַ׃

Lo chen haresha'im, ki im kamots asher tidfenu ruach.

Not so the wicked; rather, they are like chaff that wind blows away.

עַל־כֵּן לֹא־יָקֻמוּ רְשָׁעִים בַּמִּשְׁפָּט וְחַטָּאִים בַּעֲדַת צַדִּיקִים׃

Al ken lo yakumu resha'im bamishpat, vechata'im ba'adat tzadikim.

Therefore the wicked will not survive judgment, nor will sinners, in the assembly of the righteous.

כִּי־יוֹדֵעַ יְהוָה דֶּרֶךְ צַדִּיקִים וְדֶרֶךְ רְשָׁעִים תֹּאבֵד׃

Ki yode'a Adonai derech tzadikim, vederech resha'im toved.

For the LORD cherishes the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked is doomed.

לָמָּה רָגְשׁוּ גוֹיִם וּלְאֻמִּים יֶהְגּוּ־רִיק׃

Lamah ragshu goyim, ule'umim yehgu rik?

Why do nations assemble, and peoples plot vain things;

יִתְיַצְּבוּ מַלְכֵי־אֶרֶץ וְרוֹזְנִים נוֹסְדוּ־יָחַד עַל־יְהוָה וְעַל־מְשִׁיחוֹ׃

Yityatzvu malchei eretz, veroznim nosdu yachad, al Adonai ve'al meshicho.

kings of the earth take their stand, and regents intrigue together against the LORD and against His anointed?

נְנַתְּקָה אֶת־מוֹסְרוֹתֵימוֹ וְנַשְׁלִיכָה מִמֶּנּוּ עֲבֹתֵימוֹ׃

Nenatka et mosroteimo, venashlicha mimenu avoteimo.

"Let us break the cords of their yoke, shake off their ropes from us!"

יוֹשֵׁב בַּשָּׁמַיִם יִשְׂחָק אֲדֹנָי יִלְעַג־לָמוֹ׃

Yoshev bashamayim yischak, Adonai yil'ag lamo.

He who is enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord mocks at them.

אָז יְדַבֵּר אֵלֵימוֹ בְאַפּוֹ וּבַחֲרוֹנוֹ יְבַהֲלֵמוֹ׃

Az yedaber eleimo ve'apo, uvacharono yevahalemo.

Then He speaks to them in anger, terrifying them in His rage,

וַאֲנִי נָסַכְתִּי מַלְכִּי עַל־צִיּוֹן הַר־קָדְשִׁי׃

Va'ani nasachti malki al Tziyon har kodshi.

"But I have installed My king on Zion, My holy mountain!"

אֲסַפְּרָה אֶל חֹק יְהוָה אָמַר אֵלַי בְּנִי אַתָּה אֲנִי הַיּוֹם יְלִדְתִּיךָ׃

Asapra el chok, Adonai amar elai: Beni ata, ani hayom yelidticha.

Let me tell of the decree: the LORD said to me, "You are My son, I have fathered you this day.

שְׁאַל מִמֶּנִּי וְאֶתְּנָה גוֹיִם נַחֲלָתֶךָ וַאֲחֻזָּתְךָ אַפְסֵי־אָרֶץ׃

She'al mimeni ve'etna goyim nachalatecha, va'achuzatcha afsei aretz.

Ask it of Me, and I will make the nations your domain; your estate, the limits of the earth.

תְּרֹעֵם בְּשֵׁבֶט בַּרְזֶל כִּכְלִי יוֹצֵר תְּנַפְּצֵם׃

Tero'em beshevet barzel, kichli yotzer tenaptzem.

You can smash them with an iron mace, shatter them like potter's ware."

וְעַתָּה מְלָכִים הַשְׂכִּילוּ הִוָּסְרוּ שֹׁפְטֵי אָרֶץ׃

Ve'ata melachim haskilu, hivasru shoftei aretz.

So now, O kings, be prudent; accept discipline, you rulers of the earth!

עִבְדוּ אֶת־יְהוָה בְּיִרְאָה וְגִילוּ בִּרְעָדָה׃

Ivdu et Adonai beyir'a, vegilu bir'ada.

Serve the LORD in awe; tremble with fright,

נַשְּׁקוּ־בַר פֶּן־יֶאֱנַף וְתֹאבְדוּ דֶרֶךְ כִּי־יִבְעַר כִּמְעַט אַפּוֹ אַשְׁרֵי כָּל־חוֹסֵי בוֹ׃

Nashku var pen ye'enaf vetovdu derech, ki yiv'ar kim'at apo. Ashrei kol chosei vo.

pay homage in good faith, lest He be angered, and your way be doomed in the mere flash of His anger. Happy are all who take refuge in Him.

מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד בְּבָרְחוֹ מִפְּנֵי אַבְשָׁלוֹם בְּנוֹ׃

Mizmor leDavid, bevorcho mipnei Avshalom beno.

A psalm of David when he fled from his son Absalom.

יְהוָה מָה־רַבּוּ צָרָי רַבִּים קָמִים עָלָי׃

Adonai, ma rabu tzarai! Rabim kamim alai.

O LORD, my foes are so many! Many are those who attack me;

רַבִּים אֹמְרִים לְנַפְשִׁי אֵין יְשׁוּעָתָה לּוֹ בֵאלֹהִים סֶלָה׃

Rabim omrim lenafshi: Ein yeshu'ata lo vElohim, sela.

many say of me, "There is no deliverance for him through God." Selah.

וְאַתָּה יְהוָה מָגֵן בַּעֲדִי כְּבוֹדִי וּמֵרִים רֹאשִׁי׃

Ve'ata Adonai magen ba'adi, kevodi umerim roshi.

But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, He who holds my head high.

קוֹלִי אֶל־יְהוָה אֶקְרָא וַיַּעֲנֵנִי מֵהַר קָדְשׁוֹ סֶלָה׃

Koli el Adonai ekra, vaya'aneni mehar kodsho, sela.

I cry aloud to the LORD, and He answers me from His holy mountain. Selah.

אֲנִי שָׁכַבְתִּי וָאִישָׁנָה הֱקִיצוֹתִי כִּי יְהוָה יִסְמְכֵנִי׃

Ani shachavti va'ishana, hekitzoti ki Adonai yismecheni.

I lie down and sleep and wake again, for the LORD sustains me.

לֹא־אִירָא מֵרִבְבוֹת עָם אֲשֶׁר סָבִיב שָׁתוּ עָלָי׃

Lo ira merivevot am, asher saviv shatu alai.

I have no fear of the myriad forces arrayed against me on every side.

קוּמָה יְהוָה הוֹשִׁיעֵנִי אֱלֹהַי כִּי־הִכִּיתָ אֶת־כָּל־אֹיְבַי לֶחִי שִׁנֵּי רְשָׁעִים שִׁבַּרְתָּ׃

Kuma Adonai, hoshi'eni Elohai, ki hikita et kol oyvai lechi, shinei resha'im shibarta.

Rise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! For You slap all my enemies in the face; You break the teeth of the wicked.

לַיהוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה עַל־עַמְּךָ בִרְכָתֶךָ סֶּלָה׃

LaAdonai hayeshu'a, al amcha virchatecha, sela.

Deliverance is the LORD's; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ בִּנְגִינוֹת מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach binginot, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader; with instrumental music. A psalm of David.

בְּקָרְאִי עֲנֵנִי אֱלֹהֵי צִדְקִי בַּצָּר הִרְחַבְתָּ לִּי חָנֵּנִי וּשְׁמַע תְּפִלָּתִי׃

Bekor'i aneni Elohei tzidki, batzar hirchavta li, choneni ushma tefilati.

Answer me when I call, O God, my vindicator! You freed me from distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

בְּנֵי אִישׁ עַד־מֶה כְבוֹדִי לִכְלִמָּה תֶּאֱהָבוּן רִיק תְּבַקְשׁוּ כָזָב סֶלָה׃

Benei ish, ad me chevodi lichlima, te'ehavun rik, tevakshu chazav, sela.

You men, how long will my honor be mocked, will you love illusions, have recourse to lies? Selah.

וּדְעוּ כִּי־הִפְלָה יְהוָה חָסִיד לוֹ יְהוָה יִשְׁמַע בְּקָרְאִי אֵלָיו׃

Ud'u ki hifla Adonai chasid lo, Adonai yishma bekor'i elav.

Know that the LORD singles out the faithful for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him.

רִגְזוּ וְאַל־תֶּחֱטָאוּ אִמְרוּ בִלְבַבְכֶם עַל־מִשְׁכַּבְכֶם וְדֹמּוּ סֶלָה׃

Rigzu ve'al techeta'u, imru vilvavechem al mishkavchem, vedomu, sela.

So tremble, and sin no more; ponder it on your bed, and sigh. Selah.

זִבְחוּ זִבְחֵי־צֶדֶק וּבִטְחוּ אֶל־יְהוָה׃

Zivchu zivchei tzedek, uvitchu el Adonai.

Offer sacrifices in righteousness and trust in the LORD.

רַבִּים אֹמְרִים מִי־יַרְאֵנוּ טוֹב נְסָה־עָלֵינוּ אוֹר פָּנֶיךָ יְהוָה׃

Rabim omrim mi yar'enu tov, nesa aleinu or panecha Adonai.

Many say, "O for good days!" Bestow Your favor on us, O LORD.

נָתַתָּה שִׂמְחָה בְלִבִּי מֵעֵת דְּגָנָם וְתִירוֹשָׁם רָבּוּ׃

Natata simcha velibi, me'et deganam vetirosham rabu.

You put joy into my heart when their grain and wine show increase.

בְּשָׁלוֹם יַחְדָּו אֶשְׁכְּבָה וְאִישָׁן כִּי־אַתָּה יְהוָה לְבָדָד לָבֶטַח תּוֹשִׁיבֵנִי׃

Beshalom yachdav eshkeva ve'ishan, ki Ata Adonai levadad lavetach toshiveni.

Safe and sound, I lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, keep me secure.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ אֶל־הַנְּחִילוֹת מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach el hanechilot, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader; on nehiloth. A psalm of David.

אֲמָרַי הַאֲזִינָה יְהוָה בִּינָה הֲגִיגִי׃

Amarai ha'azina Adonai, bina hagigi.

Give ear to my speech, O LORD; consider my utterance.

הַקְשִׁיבָה לְקוֹל שַׁוְעִי מַלְכִּי וֵאלֹהָי כִּי־אֵלֶיךָ אֶתְפַּלָּל׃

Hakshiva lekol shav'i, malki vElohai, ki elecha etpalal.

Heed the sound of my cry, my king and God, for I pray to You.

יְהוָה בֹּקֶר תִּשְׁמַע קוֹלִי בֹּקֶר אֶעֱרָךְ־לְךָ וַאֲצַפֶּה׃

Adonai, boker tishma koli, boker e'erach lecha va'atzape.

O LORD, hear my voice at daybreak; at daybreak I plead before You, and wait.

כִּי לֹא אֵל־חָפֵץ רֶשַׁע אָתָּה לֹא יְגֻרְךָ רָע׃

Ki lo El chafetz resha Ata, lo yegurcha ra.

For You are not a God who desires wickedness; evil cannot abide with You;

לֹא־יִתְיַצְּבוּ הוֹלְלִים לְנֶגֶד עֵינֶיךָ שָׂנֵאתָ כָּל־פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן׃

Lo yityatzvu holelim leneged einecha, saneta kol po'alei aven.

wanton men cannot endure in Your sight. You detest all evildoers;

תְּאַבֵּד דֹּבְרֵי כָזָב אִישׁ־דָּמִים וּמִרְמָה יְתָעֵב יְהוָה׃

Te'abed dovrei chazav, ish damim umirma yeta'ev Adonai.

You doom those who speak lies; the LORD abhors murderous, deceitful men.

וַאֲנִי בְּרֹב חַסְדְּךָ אָבוֹא בֵיתֶךָ אֶשְׁתַּחֲוֶה אֶל־הֵיכַל־קָדְשְׁךָ בְּיִרְאָתֶךָ׃

Va'ani berov chasdecha avo veitecha, eshtachave el heichal kodshecha beyir'atecha.

But I, through Your abundant love, enter Your house; I bow toward Your holy temple in awe of You.

יְהוָה נְחֵנִי בְצִדְקָתֶךָ לְמַעַן שׁוֹרְרָי הושר [הַיְשַׁר] לְפָנַי דַּרְכֶּךָ׃

Adonai, necheni vetzidkatecha, lema'an shorerai, hayasher lefanai darkecha.

O LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my watchful foes; make Your way straight before me.

כִּי אֵין בְּפִיהוּ נְכוֹנָה קִרְבָּם הַוּוֹת קֶבֶר־פָּתוּחַ גְּרוֹנָם לְשׁוֹנָם יַחֲלִיקוּן׃

Ki ein befihu nechona, kirbam havot, kever patu'ach geronam, leshonam yachlikun.

For there is no sincerity on their lips; their heart is malicious; their throat is an open grave; their tongue is flattering.

הַאֲשִׁימֵם אֱלֹהִים יִפְּלוּ מִמֹּעֲצוֹתֵיהֶם בְּרֹב פִּשְׁעֵיהֶם הַדִּיחֵמוֹ כִּי־מָרוּ בָךְ׃

Ha'ashimem Elohim, yiplu mimo'atzoteihem, berov pish'eihem hadichem, ki maru vach.

Condemn them, O God; let them fall by their own devices; cast them out for their many crimes, for they defy You.

וְיִשְׂמְחוּ כָל־חוֹסֵי בָךְ לְעוֹלָם יְרַנֵּנוּ וְתָסֵךְ עָלֵימוֹ וְיַעְלְצוּ בְךָ אֹהֲבֵי שְׁמֶךָ׃

Veyismechu chol chosei vach, le'olam yeranenu, vetasech aleimo, veya'letzu vecha ohavei shemecha.

But let all who take refuge in You rejoice, ever jubilant as You shelter them; and let those who love Your name exult in You.

כִּי־אַתָּה תְּבָרֵךְ צַדִּיק יְהוָה כַּצִּנָּה רָצוֹן תַּעְטְרֶנּוּ׃

Ki Ata tevarech tzadik Adonai, katzina ratzon ta'terenu.

For You surely bless the righteous man, O LORD, encompassing him with favor like a shield.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ בִּנְגִינוֹת עַל־הַשְּׁמִינִית מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach binginot al hasheminit, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader; with instrumental music on the sheminith. A psalm of David.

יְהוָה אַל־בְּאַפְּךָ תוֹכִיחֵנִי וְאַל־בַּחֲמָתְךָ תְיַסְּרֵנִי׃

Adonai, al be'apcha tochiecheni, ve'al bachamatcha teyasreni.

O LORD, do not punish me in anger, do not chastise me in fury.

חָנֵּנִי יְהוָה כִּי אֻמְלַל אָנִי רְפָאֵנִי יְהוָה כִּי נִבְהֲלוּ עֲצָמָי׃

Choneni Adonai ki umlal ani, refa'eni Adonai ki nivhalu atzamai.

Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I languish; heal me, O LORD, for my bones shake with terror.

וְנַפְשִׁי נִבְהֲלָה מְאֹד ואת [וְאַתָּה] יְהוָה עַד־מָתָי׃

Venafshi nivhala me'od, ve'Ata Adonai ad matai?

My whole being is stricken with terror, while You, LORD—O, how long!

שׁוּבָה יְהוָה חַלְּצָה נַפְשִׁי הוֹשִׁיעֵנִי לְמַעַן חַסְדֶּךָ׃

Shuva Adonai, chaltza nafshi, hoshi'eni lema'an chasdecha.

O LORD, turn! Rescue me! Deliver me as befits Your faithfulness.

כִּי אֵין בַּמָּוֶת זִכְרֶךָ בִּשְׁאוֹל מִי יוֹדֶה־לָּךְ׃

Ki ein bamavet zichrecha, bish'ol mi yode lach?

For there is no praise of You among the dead; in Sheol, who can acclaim You?

יָגַעְתִּי בְּאַנְחָתִי אַשְׂחֶה בְכָל־לַיְלָה מִטָּתִי בְּדִמְעָתִי עַרְשִׂי אַמְסֶה׃

Yagati be'anchati, asche vechol layla mitati, bedim'ati arsi amse.

I am weary with groaning; every night I drench my bed, I melt my couch in tears.

עָשְׁשָׁה מִכַּעַס עֵינִי עָתְקָה בְּכָל־צוֹרְרָי׃

Ashsha mika'as eini, atka bechol tzorerai.

My eyes are wasted by vexation, worn out because of all my foes.

סוּרוּ מִמֶּנִּי כָּל־פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן כִּי־שָׁמַע יְהוָה קוֹל בִּכְיִי׃

Suru mimeni kol po'alei aven, ki shama Adonai kol bich'yi.

Away from me, all you evildoers, for the LORD heeds the sound of my weeping.

שָׁמַע יְהוָה תְּחִנָּתִי יְהוָה תְּפִלָּתִי יִקָּח׃

Shama Adonai techinati, Adonai tefilati yikach.

The LORD heeds my plea, the LORD accepts my prayer.

יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיִבָּהֲלוּ מְאֹד כָּל־אֹיְבָי יָשֻׁבוּ יֵבֹשׁוּ רָגַע׃

Yevoshu veyibahalu me'od kol oyvai, yashuvu yevoshu raga.

All my enemies will be frustrated and stricken with terror; they will turn back in an instant, frustrated.

שִׁגָּיוֹן לְדָוִד אֲשֶׁר־שָׁר לַיהוָה עַל־דִּבְרֵי־כוּשׁ בֶּן־יְמִינִי׃

Shigayon leDavid, asher shar laAdonai al divrei Chush ben Yemini.

A shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD, concerning Cush, a Benjaminite.

יְהוָה אֱלֹהַי בְּךָ חָסִיתִי הוֹשִׁיעֵנִי מִכָּל־רֹדְפַי וְהַצִּילֵנִי׃

Adonai Elohai, becha chasiti, hoshi'eni mikol rodfai vehatzileni.

O LORD, my God, in You I seek refuge; deliver me from all my pursuers and save me,

פֶּן־יִטְרֹף כְּאַרְיֵה נַפְשִׁי פֹּרֵק וְאֵין מַצִּיל׃

Pen yitrof ke'arye nafshi, porek ve'ein matzil.

lest, like a lion, they tear me apart, rending in pieces, with no one to save me.

יְהוָה אֱלֹהַי אִם־עָשִׂיתִי זֹאת אִם־יֶשׁ־עָוֶל בְּכַפָּי׃

Adonai Elohai, im asiti zot, im yesh avel bechapai,

O LORD, my God, if I have done such things, if my hands bear the guilt of wrongdoing,

אִם־גָּמַלְתִּי שׁוֹלְמִי רָע וָאֲחַלְּצָה צוֹרְרִי רֵיקָם׃

im gamalti sholmi ra, va'achaltzah tzoreri reikam,

if I have dealt evil to my ally, or plundered my foe without cause,

יִרַדֹּף אוֹיֵב נַפְשִׁי וְיַשֵּׂג וְיִרְמֹס לָאָרֶץ חַיָּי וּכְבוֹדִי לֶעָפָר יַשְׁכֵּן סֶלָה׃

yiradof oyev nafshi veyaseg, veyirmos la'aretz chayai, uchvodi le'afar yashken, sela.

then let the enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground, and lay my body in the dust. Selah.

קוּמָה יְהוָה בְּאַפֶּךָ הִנָּשֵׂא בְּעַבְרוֹת צוֹרְרָי וְעוּרָה אֵלַי מִשְׁפָּט צִוִּיתָ׃

Kuma Adonai be'apecha, hinase be'avrot tzorerai, ve'ura elai mishpat tzivita.

Rise, O LORD, in Your anger; assert Yourself against the fury of my foes; bestir Yourself on my behalf; You have ordained judgment.

וַעֲדַת לְאֻמִּים תְּסוֹבְבֶךָּ וְעָלֶיהָ לַמָּרוֹם שׁוּבָה׃

Va'adat le'umim tesoveveka, ve'aleha lamarom shuva.

Let the assembly of peoples gather about You, with You enthroned above, on high.

יְהוָה יָדִין עַמִּים שָׁפְטֵנִי יְהוָה כְּצִדְקִי וּכְתֻמִּי עָלָי׃

Adonai yadin amim, shofteni Adonai ketzidki uchetumi alai.

O LORD, who judges peoples, vindicate me, O LORD, for the righteousness and blamelessness that are mine.

יִגְמָר־נָא רַע רְשָׁעִים וּתְכוֹנֵן צַדִּיק וּבֹחֵן לִבּוֹת וּכְלָיוֹת אֱלֹהִים צַדִּיק׃

Yigmar na ra resha'im, utechonen tzadik, uvochen libot uchlayot Elohim tzadik.

Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; He who probes the heart and conscience is a righteous God.

מָגִנִּי עַל־אֱלֹהִים מוֹשִׁיעַ יִשְׁרֵי־לֵב׃

Magini al Elohim, moshi'a yishrei lev.

I look to God to be my shield, the deliverer of the upright.

אֱלֹהִים שׁוֹפֵט צַדִּיק וְאֵל זֹעֵם בְּכָל־יוֹם׃

Elohim shofet tzadik, ve'El zo'em bechol yom.

God pronounces doom each day on him who does not turn back.

אִם־לֹא יָשׁוּב חַרְבּוֹ יִלְטוֹשׁ קַשְׁתּוֹ דָרַךְ וַיְכוֹנְנֶהָ׃

Im lo yashuv, charbo yiltosh, kashto darach vayechoneneha.

If one does not turn back, but whets his sword, bends his bow and aims it,

וְלוֹ הֵכִין כְּלֵי־מָוֶת חִצָּיו לְדֹלְקִים יִפְעָל׃

Velo hechin kelei mavet, chitzav ledolkim yif'al.

then against himself he readies deadly weapons, and makes his arrows sharp.

הִנֵּה יְחַבֶּל־אָוֶן וְהָרָה עָמָל וְיָלַד שָׁקֶר׃

Hine yechabel aven, vehara amal, veyalad shaker.

See, he hatches evil, conceives mischief, and gives birth to lies.

בּוֹר כָּרָה וַיַּחְפְּרֵהוּ וַיִּפֹּל בְּשַׁחַת יִפְעָל׃

Bor kara vayachperehu, vayipol beshachat yif'al.

He has dug a pit and deepened it, and will fall into the trap he made.

יָשׁוּב עֲמָלוֹ בְרֹאשׁוֹ וְעַל קָדְקֳדוֹ חֲמָסוֹ יֵרֵד׃

Yashuv amalo verosho, ve'al kodkodo chamaso yered.

His mischief will recoil upon his own head; his lawlessness will come down upon his skull.

אוֹדֶה יְהוָה כְּצִדְקוֹ וַאֲזַמְּרָה שֵׁם־יְהוָה עֶלְיוֹן׃

Ode Adonai ketzidko, va'azamra shem Adonai elyon.

I will praise the LORD for His righteousness, and sing a hymn to the name of the LORD Most High.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־הַגִּתִּית מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

Lamnatzei'ach al hagitit, mizmor leDavid.

For the leader; on the gittith. A psalm of David.

יְהוָה אֲדֹנֵינוּ מָה־אַדִּיר שִׁמְךָ בְּכָל־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר תְּנָה הוֹדְךָ עַל־הַשָּׁמָיִם׃

Adonai Adoneinu, ma adir shimcha bechol ha'aretz, asher tena hodcha al hashamayim.

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name throughout the earth, You who have covered the heavens with Your splendor!

מִפִּי עוֹלְלִים וְיֹנְקִים יִסַּדְתָּ עֹז לְמַעַן צוֹרְרֶיךָ לְהַשְׁבִּית אוֹיֵב וּמִתְנַקֵּם׃

Mipi olelim veyonkim yisadta oz, lema'an tzorecha, lehashbit oyev umitnakem.

From the mouths of infants and sucklings You have founded strength on account of Your foes, to put an end to enemy and avenger.

כִּי־אֶרְאֶה שָׁמֶיךָ מַעֲשֵׂי אֶצְבְּעֹתֶיךָ יָרֵחַ וְכוֹכָבִים אֲשֶׁר כּוֹנָנְתָּה׃

Ki er'e shamecha, ma'ase etzbe'otecha, yarei'ach vechochavim asher conanta.

When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars that You set in place,

מָה־אֱנוֹשׁ כִּי־תִזְכְּרֶנּוּ וּבֶן־אָדָם כִּי תִפְקְדֶנּוּ׃

Ma enosh ki tizkerenu, uven adam ki tifkedenu?

what is man that You have been mindful of him, mortal man that You have taken note of him,

וַתְּחַסְּרֵהוּ מְּעַט מֵאֱלֹהִים וְכָבוֹד וְהָדָר תְּעַטְּרֵהוּ׃

Vatechaserehu me'at me'Elohim, vechavod vehadar te'atrehu.

that You have made him little less than divine, and adorned him with glory and majesty;

תַּמְשִׁילֵהוּ בְּמַעֲשֵׂי יָדֶיךָ כֹּל שַׁתָּה תַחַת־רַגְלָיו׃

Tamshilehu bema'asei yadecha, kol shata tachat raglav.

You have made him master over Your handiwork, laying the world at his feet,

צֹנֶה וַאֲלָפִים כֻּלָּם וְגַם בַּהֲמוֹת שָׂדָי׃

Tzone va'alafim kulam, vegam bahamot sadai,

sheep and oxen, all of them, and wild beasts, too;

צִפּוֹר שָׁמַיִם וּדְגֵי הַיָּם עֹבֵר אָרְחוֹת יַמִּים׃

Tzipor shamayim udegei hayam, over orchot yamim.

the birds of the heavens, the fish of the sea, whatever travels the paths of the seas.

יְהוָה אֲדֹנֵינוּ מָה־אַדִּיר שִׁמְךָ בְּכָל־הָאָרֶץ׃

Adonai Adoneinu, ma adir shimcha bechol ha'aretz!

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name throughout the earth!

לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־מוּת לַבֵּן מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃

I will praise You, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell all Your wonders.

אֶשְׂמְחָה וְאֶעֶלְצָה בָךְ אֲזַמְּרָה שִׁמְךָ עֶלְיוֹן׃

Esmecha ve'eltza vach, azamra shimcha elyon.

I will rejoice and exult in You, singing a hymn to Your name, O Most High.

בְּשׁוּב־אוֹיְבַי אָחוֹר יִכָּשְׁלוּ וְיֹאבְדוּ מִפָּנֶיךָ׃

Beshuv oyvai achor, yikashlu veyovdu mipanecha.

When my enemies retreat, they stumble and perish before You.

כִּי־עָשִׂיתָ מִשְׁפָּטִי וְדִינִי יָשַׁבְתָּ לְכִסֵּא שׁוֹפֵט צֶדֶק׃

Ki asita mishpati vedini, yashavta lechise shofet tzedek.

For You uphold my right and claim, enthroned as righteous judge.

גָּעַרְתָּ גוֹיִם אִבַּדְתָּ רָשָׁע שְׁמָם מָחִיתָ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד׃

Ga'arta goyim, ibadta rasha, shemam machita le'olam va'ed.

You blasted the nations; You doomed the wicked; You blotted out their name forever.

הָאוֹיֵב תַּמּוּ חֳרָבוֹת לָנֶצַח וְעָרִים נָתַשְׁתָּ אָבַד זִכְרָם הֵמָּה׃

Ha'oyev tamu choravot lanetzach, ve'arim natashta, avad zichram hema.

The enemy is no more—ruins forever; You have torn down their cities; their very memory is lost.

וַיהוָה לְעוֹלָם יֵשֵׁב כּוֹנֵן לַמִּשְׁפָּט כִּסְאוֹ׃

VaAdonai le'olam yeshev, konen lamishpat kis'o.

But the LORD abides forever; He has set up His throne for judgment;

וְהוּא יִשְׁפֹּט־תֵּבֵל בְּצֶדֶק יָדִין לְאֻמִּים בְּמֵישָׁרִים׃

Vehu yishpot tevel betzedek, yadin le'umim bemeisharim.

it is He who judges the world with righteousness, rules the peoples with equity.

וִיהִי יְהוָה מִשְׂגָּב לַדָּךְ מִשְׂגָּב לְעִתּוֹת בַּצָּרָה׃

Vihi Adonai misgav ladach, misgav le'itot batzara.

The LORD is a haven for the oppressed, a haven in times of trouble.

וְיִבְטְחוּ בְךָ יוֹדְעֵי שְׁמֶךָ כִּי לֹא־עָזַבְתָּ דֹרְשֶׁיךָ יְהוָה׃

Veyivtechu vecha yod'ei shemecha, ki lo azavta dorshecha Adonai.

Those who know Your name trust You, for You do not abandon those who turn to You, O LORD.

זַמְּרוּ לַיהוָה יֹשֵׁב צִיּוֹן הַגִּידוּ בָעַמִּים עֲלִילוֹתָיו׃

Zamru laAdonai yoshev Tziyon, hagidu va'amim alilotav.

Sing a hymn to the LORD, who reigns in Zion; declare His deeds among the peoples.

כִּי־דֹרֵשׁ דָּמִים אוֹתָם זָכָר לֹא־שָׁכַח צַעֲקַת עניים [עֲנָוִים]׃

Ki doresh damim otam zachar, lo shachach tza'akat anavim.

For He does not ignore the cry of the afflicted; He who requires bloodshed is mindful of them.

חָנְנֵנִי יְהוָה רְאֵה עָנְיִי מִשֹּׂנְאָי מְרוֹמְמִי מִשַּׁעֲרֵי מָוֶת׃

Choneni Adonai, re'e onyi misona'i, meromemi misha'arei mavet.

Have mercy on me, O LORD; see my affliction at the hands of my foes, You who lift me from the gates of death,

לְמַעַן אֲסַפְּרָה כָּל־תְּהִלָּתֶיךָ בְּשַׁעֲרֵי בַת־צִיּוֹן אָגִילָה בִּישׁוּעָתֶךָ׃

Lema'an asapra kol tehilatecha, besha'arei vat Tziyon agila bishu'atecha.

that in the gates of Fair Zion I might tell all Your praise, and rejoice in Your deliverance.

טָבְעוּ גוֹיִם בְּשַׁחַת עָשׂוּ בְּרֶשֶׁת־זוּ טָמָנוּ נִלְכְּדָה רַגְלָם׃

Tav'u goyim beshachat asu, bereshet zu tamnu nilkeda raglam.

The nations sink in the pit they have made; their own foot is caught in the net they have hidden.

נוֹדַע יְהוָה מִשְׁפָּט עָשָׂה בְּפֹעַל כַּפָּיו נוֹקֵשׁ רָשָׁע הִגָּיוֹן סֶלָה׃

Noda Adonai mishpat asa, befo'al kapav nokesh rasha, higayon sela.

The LORD has made Himself known: He works judgment; the wicked man is trapped by his own devices. Higgaion. Selah.

יָשׁוּבוּ רְשָׁעִים לִשְׁאוֹלָה כָּל־גּוֹיִם שְׁכֵחֵי אֱלֹהִים׃

Yashuvu resha'im lish'ola, kol goyim shechechei Elohim.

Let the wicked be consigned to Sheol, all the nations that ignore God!

כִּי לֹא לָנֶצַח יִשָּׁכַח אֶבְיוֹן תִּקְוַת ענוים [עֲנִיִּים] תֹּאבַד לָעַד׃

Ki lo lanetzach yishachach evyon, tikvat aniyim tovad la'ad.

For not forever shall the needy be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted forever lost.

קוּמָה יְהוָה אַל־יָעֹז אֱנוֹשׁ יִשָּׁפְטוּ גוֹיִם עַל־פָּנֶיךָ׃

Kuma Adonai, al ya'oz enosh, yishaftu goyim al panecha.

Rise, O LORD! Let not men have power; let nations be judged in Your presence.

שִׁיתָה יְהוָה מוֹרָה לָהֶם יֵדְעוּ גוֹיִם אֱנוֹשׁ הֵמָּה סֶּלָה׃

Shita Adonai mora lahem, yed'u goyim enosh hema, sela.

Strike fear into them, O LORD; let the nations know they are only men. Selah.

לָמָה יְהוָה תַּעֲמֹד בְּרָחוֹק תַּעְלִים לְעִתּוֹת בַּצָּרָה׃

Lama Adonai ta'amod berachok, ta'alim le'itot batzara?

Why, O LORD, do You stand aloof, heedless in times of trouble?

בְּגַאֲוַת רָשָׁע יִדְלַק עָנִי יִתָּפְשׂוּ בִּמְזִמּוֹת זוּ חָשָׁבוּ׃

Bega'avat rasha yidlak ani, yitafsu bimzimot zu chashavu.

The wicked in his arrogance hounds the lowly—may they be caught in the schemes they devise!

כִּי־הִלֵּל רָשָׁע עַל־תַּאֲוַת נַפְשׁוֹ וּבֹצֵעַ בֵּרֵךְ נִאֵץ יְהוָה׃

Ki hilel rasha al ta'avat nafsho, uvotze'a berech ni'etz Adonai.

The wicked crows about his unbridled lusts; the grasping man reviles and scorns the LORD.

רָשָׁע כְּגֹבַהּ אַפּוֹ בַּל־יִדְרֹשׁ אֵין אֱלֹהִים כָּל־מְזִמּוֹתָיו׃

Rasha kegovah apo bal yidrosh, ein Elohim kol mezimotav.

The wicked, arrogant as he is, thinks, "He does not call to account; God does not care."

יָחִילוּ דרכו [דְרָכָיו] בְּכָל־עֵת מָרוֹם מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ מִנֶּגְדּוֹ כָּל־צוֹרְרָיו יָפִיחַ בָּהֶם׃

Yachilu derachav bechol et, marom mishpatecha minegedu, kol tzorerav yafiach bahem.

His ways prosper at all times; Your judgments are far beyond him; he snorts at all his foes.

אָמַר בְּלִבּוֹ בַּל־אֶמּוֹט לְדֹר וָדֹר אֲשֶׁר לֹא־בְרָע׃

Amar belibo bal emot, ledor vador asher lo vera.

He thinks, "I shall not be shaken, through all time never be in trouble."

אָלָה פִּיהוּ מָלֵא וּמִרְמוֹת וָתֹךְ תַּחַת לְשׁוֹנוֹ עָמָל וָאָוֶן׃

Ala pihu male umirmot vatoch, tachat leshono amal va'aven.

His mouth is full of oaths, deceit, and fraud; mischief and evil are under his tongue.

יֵשֵׁב בְּמַאְרַב חֲצֵרִים בַּמִּסְתָּרִים יַהֲרֹג נָקִי עֵינָיו לְחֵלְכָה יִצְפֹּנוּ׃

Yeshev bema'arav chatzerim, bamis'tarim yaharog naki, einav lechelcha yitzponu.

He lurks in outlying places; from a covert he slays the innocent; his eyes spy out the hapless.

יֶאֱרֹב בַּמִּסְתָּר כְּאַרְיֵה בְסֻכֹּה יֶאֱרֹב לַחֲטוֹף עָנִי יַחְטֹף עָנִי בְּמָשְׁכוֹ בְרִשְׁתּוֹ׃

Ye'erov bamis'tar ke'arye vesuko, ye'erov lachtof ani, yachtof ani bemoshcho verishto.

He lurks in a covert like a lion in his lair; lurks to seize the lowly; he seizes the lowly as he draws his net.

ודכה [יִדְכֶּה] יָשֹׁחַ וְנָפַל בַּעֲצוּמָיו חלכאים [חֵיל כָּאִים]׃

Yidake yashoch venafal ba'atzumav chel ka'im.

He crouches, he bows low—and the hapless fall into his clutches.

אָמַר בְּלִבּוֹ שָׁכַח אֵל הִסְתִּיר פָּנָיו בַּל־רָאָה לָנֶצַח׃

Amar belibo shachach El, histir panav bal ra'a lanetzach.

He thinks, "God is not mindful, He hides His face, He never looks."

קוּמָה יְהוָה אֵל נְשָׂא יָדֶךָ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּח עניים [עֲנָוִים]׃

Kuma Adonai El, nesa yadecha, al tishkach anavim.

Rise, O LORD! Strike at him, O God! Do not forget the lowly.

עַל־מֶה נִאֵץ רָשָׁע אֱלֹהִים אָמַר בְּלִבּוֹ לֹא תִדְרֹשׁ׃

Al me ni'etz rasha Elohim, amar belibo lo tidrosh.

Why should the wicked man scorn God, thinking You do not call to account?

רָאִתָה כִּי־אַתָּה עָמָל וָכַעַס תַּבִּיט לָתֵת בְּיָדֶךָ עָלֶיךָ יַעֲזֹב חֵלֵכָה יָתוֹם אַתָּה הָיִיתָ עוֹזֵר׃

Ra'ita ki Ata amal vacha'as tabit, latet beyadecha, alecha ya'azov chelecha, yatom Ata hayita ozer.

You do look! You take note of mischief and vexation! To requite is in Your power. The hapless commits himself to You; You have ever been the orphan's help.

שְׁבֹר זְרוֹעַ רָשָׁע וָרָע תִּדְרוֹשׁ־רִשְׁעוֹ בַל־תִּמְצָא׃

Shvor zero'a rasha vara, tidrosh rish'o val timtza.

Break the arm of the wicked man; search out his wickedness until there is none.

יְהוָה מֶלֶךְ עוֹלָם וָעֶד אָבְדוּ גוֹיִם מֵאַרְצוֹ׃

Adonai melech olam va'ed, avdu goyim me'artzo.

The LORD is king forever and ever; the nations have perished from His land.

תַּאֲוַת עֲנָוִים שָׁמַעְתָּ יְהוָה תָּכִין לִבָּם תַּקְשִׁיב אָזְנֶךָ׃

Ta'avat anavim shamata Adonai, tachin libam takshiv oznecha.

You have heard the plea of the lowly, O LORD; You will incline Your ear.

לִשְׁפֹּט יָתוֹם וָדָךְ בַּל־יוֹסִיף עוֹד לַעֲרֹץ אֱנוֹשׁ מִן־הָאָרֶץ׃

Lishpot yatom vadach, bal yosif od la'arotz enosh min ha'aretz.

You champion the orphan and the downtrodden, that men who are of the earth tyrannize no more.
